I did this somewhere else many years ago and was shocked that most said no. Please comment if you will.

With Hawaii , Guatemala, last years three major US Hurricanes please vote if you believe either God controls these things or it is just some random natural events...Thanks

God can intervene in any event but we will never know to what extent He intervenes. God gave men from Adam's line dominion in the earth. At the fall Satan stole man's dominion and has it to this day. He is the god of this world/age, and is the source of the calamities mentioned and others not mentioned. Ref. Gen 1:26-28 and 2 Cor 4:4

Including the very laws of nature -- all that is. All the universe and all in it.

Sometimes people imagine the sciences aren't His. They are His. The implication though is valuable -- to realize when physics discovers a new aspect of nature, it's learning about another part of what He made.

I often ask Atheists how they think the world happened. The obvious response is Big bang bla bla long time. I proceed to ask how the Big Bang could have occurred had the laws of physics had not yet been formed! They begin to stare at me in amazement. We have one Law Giver who tells the proud sea waves it can go this far and no farther. All of creation responds to his command. Science isn't trying to understand the mind of God its trying to understand his commands. Job 38

I voted "NO", but God CAN control the weather. It doesn't mean that He is controlling every hurricane or every raindrop.

Read this story and see what you get out of it:

Matthew 8
23 When He got into the boat, His disciples followed Him. 24 And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being covered with the waves; but Jesus Himself was asleep. 25 And they came to Him and woke Him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing!” 26 He said to them, “Why are you afraid, you men of little faith?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it became perfectly calm. 27 The men were amazed, and said, “What kind of a man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”

The storm was a natural cause, but God intervened and stilled the storm. So yes God has the power to control everything, but He is not controlling everything all the time.

For that matter, if there is a single "maverick molecule" out there that is outside of His purview/control/ordination/foreknowledge/etc., how can we do more than "hope" that His great promises to us will actually come true? (because if there is anything that is truly outside of His control, it could certainly be an eternal game-changer that He would be powerless to stop )

Nothing is outside of His control, but God does not always intervene. God is sovereign, He has the power to change the weather, but He is willingly not controlling every storm.

.
Yes, But the question asked is, does He make a Hurricane hit a specific cith for a specific reason?

He could, but does not always do it. If we were to be judged for every deed we do here on Earth, I'm sure every city in the world would have it's own hurricane.

See when I read Matthew 8 I see that story different I see He is showing them as in Job 38 Who is in charge and to remember that when Matthew 24 Happens

Intervening in an ongoing nature, saving or destroying, at times. But nature itself He already created, and it already is ongoing by His natural laws (which as Creator He created). Put another way, God doesn't have to make a butterfly's wings flap, because He already created perfect natural function. "...and it was very good."

Very beautifully put! :bee:

I think the fact that Jesus had to rebuke the wind proves that the storm was not something God willingly had put Jesus disciples in.

What's so great about this passage is that Jesus shows that he has power over natural events.

He has always used His creations to speak and teach to humans , from the Garden , Noah waters , parting the Red Sea , the whole Bible shows us how and why he uses His creations , Job 32-42 :earthamericas:

K, but as we read with listening Job 38-41 we are clearly hearing plenty of figurative and poetic wording blended in as we see the range of the wonder of His creation and power and knowledge. He doesn't have to make a butterfly be able to fly because He already has past tense, and already created perfect laws of nature that really do work. When we drink water, it works, naturally, by His design of nature. Perhaps we already agree.

Hi Christian forums! Just joined

I really believe the bible and stand on the Word (not literally stand on it lol) and I reckon with understanding (Proverbs 3:13) I will say no.

BUT

I believe that that bad governments have some control over the weather (TV shows glimpses of what tech is available). Don't blame our loving God then - not that you were (just worded it a bit clumpsy).

AND

This is by far no match for biblical storms which are awesome. We are in "birth pains" and things like Sodom was Him getting angry as they really did mess up - I mean they went anti love.

Don't forget that He is a loving God and that nature, that He has made, is very good. Ever looked closely at a deer - their l gentle way speaks of God's beauty and His way.

Bless ya!

Also, understanding is required for the times at which the good or bad weather occurs: the government and the country in question.

Mark 4:41 even the sea obeys him.
Genesis 7:4 God caused the rain to fall. God made the wind pass over Noah.
Psalms 135:7 God makes lightning, vapors, and rain.
Exodus 14:21 God divided the waters to help Moses.
1Corinthians 10:1 God doesn't want you to be ignorant about who is in control of the earth and everything in it.[/B]

Hi Sharky and George, I just wanted to say WELCOME TO CF .. to both of you  (I noticed that you are single, so is there just one of you plus an imaginary friend? .. or perhaps you have two different personalities )

Just kidd'n :D (I enjoyed your sense of humor above, BTW :))

God bless you! (Numbers 6:24-26)

Our weather is most often controlled by Martians (you know, the little green fellows you see in all the pictures, sitting around a campfire roasting marshmallows together on the dark side of the moon). But I probably didn't need to tell you that, it being common knowledge and all :p

Lol again. Are they like Umper Lumpers - my understanding is that they work hard to push the 1's and 0's through the pipes of the Interweb lol. We are being silly but it is fun.

But seriously, do you reckon that God controls all of the weather?
I noticed that you are a Calvanist - would that have a bearing on it for you?
