During those times at church when we are told to close our eyes, bow our heads, etc. during prayer time, I find it easier to keep my eyes open. Don't get me wrong; I still pray. I find it more comfortable to look down at the floor or up at the ceiling or stare off into space during prayer time.

Also during prayer time at home I don't find it necessary to do the same there, nor do I feel the need to fall on my knees, put my hands together, etc. As I've heard from others and what I also believe, offering prayer to God is a heart issue. The method in which I pray and/or my motives for praying are between me and Him.

If any of you believe I'm praying in error and that I'm required to use specific words, sit in certain positions, etc., please show me how and why I'm wrong (especially from a baptist POV). Thanks.

I would suggest , as your subtitle to username says "Jesus scares the hell out of me" that the problem, if any, may not be coming from that direction. If that were the problem and you were uneasy about those around you, I would just forget it.
When I was a sunday school teacher the kids were doing everything but concentrating on prayer or whatever it was they were doing at the moment. They didn't believe that God had their backs. So we had a lesson on "everyone cover their faces with an open hand and eyes wide open" game. Then the question was posed " who do you thing God doesn't see?"
Anyway, the only thing I see is possible inattention but not according to the details you have given.

I seriously doubt any Baptist is going to tell you you're wrong.

Good for you. I want them to tell me. Thanks for adding little to nothing to the post.

You asked what the Baptist point of view was, and I gave it to you. Don't ask stupid questions that you don't want the answer to.

If I didn't want the answer, I wouldn't have asked. Regardless, I don't want this conversation to go hostile. I only want people to elaborate on their responses or add meaningful dialogue to discussion. Thank you anyways for your input.

When I offer public prayer I do close my eyes but only because it helps my heart and mind to concentrate on Who I am praying to. Otherwise I would be distracted by every movement or cough of the congregation. Yet I would never tell folks to close their eyes and bow their heads as the only way to pray. I often pray when I am driving or doing other things. If you can pray without being distracted whatever way you want to then do so.
