This lawyer thought he had a meal ticket lawsuit against a Texas State Trooper, after a woman (coincidentally with 2 last names) accused him of sexual assault during a traffic stop. Social media went wild with the story, until the Trooper's body cam footage was released.

Oops

I think if I was an officer, I wouldn't get out of my car without that body camera on.

The vast majority of police officers are professionals who do a very dangerous job. Sadly, they are often subject to false accusations. I agree with the OP - that body-cam should be on.

It's almost funny how some folks were screaming for body cameras because, well, it will prove that those cops are just racists. But what's mostly happened is those cameras have vindicated police against false allegations. I'll bet NAACP chapter president "Reverend" (quotes intentional) Jerrod Moultrie wishes the police officer he wrongly accused of racism and harassment wasn't wearing a body camera during his traffic stop.

Yep, I saw that story, It's a sad day when everybody is looking to be a victim, trying to play off of all the hysteria of racism and sexism, everybody wants there 15 minutes of fame.
The scary part is, when the innocent are accused, if there is no evidence on the contrary, they are guilty in the court of public opinion.

And equally sad is that real victims are dismissed because they get lost in the sea of liars and con artists.

Agree.

And is why people who falsely accuse others of serious offenses, should be punished in the legal system for doing so. Just as, those who are found guilty, of serious offenses.

In a perfect world, those found guilty of making false allegations should receive the same punishment their "victim" would have received.

Well, our world is far from perfect. I would settle for significant punishment, when people lie about serious allegations about others.

We live in a time, where certain accusations when heard, are automatically deemed as credible and it is very in vogue, to accuse first and ask questions later.

It would probably knock down the number of false allegations substantially. Just imagine if the NAACP chapter president who falsely accused that officer was forced to pay him the amount of his salary for the remaining years of his working life. Or imagine if the next person to falsely accuse someone of rape was sentenced to prison for the average term of incarceration for rapists. We'd see a lot less of this nonsense.

Imagine if President Trump were held accountable for the false accusations he's made against the Central Park 5, President Obama, Secretary of State Clinton, Secretary of State Kerry, Director Comey, Director Mueller, Director Brennan, Director Clapper, Judge Curiel, Judge Orrick, Judge Robart...

Or if President Obama was held responsible for all the lies he told while in office? Or if Hillary was held responsible for her actions the same way that any plebeian would be? Or if Kerry were held responsible for his interference in the Iran deal?

Let's not play this game and say we did.
