First, you have to assume that Israel being commanded to love their brethren equates to a command to not love those outside the brethren - that is a non sequitur. Then you have to assume "enemies" and "those who persecute" is limited to being other Christians - which the text never says.
C'mon man.
It's the Word of God. Don't start making excuses to sin against God and love His enemies. That's called TREASON to your King.

Good Lord!

Let me put it like this and you can discern...

The original command in Covenant Israel:

Leviticus 19:17-18 (KJV)
17 Thou shalt not hate thy brother (member of the same tribe) in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbor (member of another tribe), and not suffer sin upon him.
18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people (member of ANY of the 12 tribes), but thou shalt love thy neighbour (member of another tribe) as thyself: I am the LORD.

Now, when you see these words..."I am the LORD" then "you" need to pay close attention and do not sin against the LORD because He STILL is a jealous God. The same when you see three "woe's" in a passage. Pay attention!

So, in accordance with the expressed will of God the command is to love brethren ONLY.

There is no redundancy in this next passage:

1 John 2:15 (KJV)
15 Love not the world (unsaved people), neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

The translated from Greek here is "world" and the Greek word is "kosmos" which is defined by Strong as...

(kosmos from base of komizo); orderly arrangement, i.e. decoration; by implication the world (in a wide or narrow sense, including its inhabitant, literal or figurative [moral])

True brethren are commanded to love brethren ONLY.

God hates the non-elect people that He will never save. He only bears with them because of the lamb slain from before the foundation of the world and the Elect, those whose names are in the book of life of the lamb slain....

Here's more:

Psalm 5:5 (KJV)
5 The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.

Psalm 11:5 (KJV)
5 The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.

Do you know what a personal pronoun is?
"workers, wicked, him" are personal pronouns meaning the PERSON.

God hates (unatoned) sin AND (unatoned) sinner.

And He doesn't love them today, save them tomorrow and now He loves them. God does not change. His Love is Immutable.
THE WORD OF GOD.

Receive or reject.

(but now that you've been exposed to this Word you don't like it because you'all thought you were doing right stepping all over yourselves to invite a heathen to your church and want to share God's love with swine....well, more power to you.)

I'm done.

We are commanded to love everyone because we all are made in His image, and are all naturally the same. We can’t judge who is and isn’t elect. So we love everyone the same.

False, we are not told to love everyone.

We don't need to judge who is and isn't elect. Jesus told us to reciprocate love ("love one another", "love your neighbor"). If you find me half dead along the side of he road and you help me, I don't need to judge whether you are the elect.

Are there a lot of elect false prophets?
I have no idea where this question comes from, and how you got here from my post. How about just addressing what I said.

Okay. I have no idea how that relates to my post.

Same here. I don't know why he didn't answer my question.

I've seen this kind of thing here before. Sometimes it's as simple as someone dancing right up to the line of calling some a non-Christian or a hell-bound apostate without actually coming out and saying it.

Simple question with profound theological and philosophical underpinnings, but I am going to poll this closed-ended. If you have more to add, please comment below.

Yes OP he loves everyone.

No greater love than this than to die for the sake if a friend. Those are his own words. The cross was an open invitation, it is crazy to pass it up. You give up filthy rags for eternal life and eternal sanctification.

Yeah I agree. I dislike beating around the bush.

And then will I declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.'https://www.christianforums.com/bible/matthew/7:23/

That’s not the language of love.

Oh? How many times have you seen a mother tell her wayward child, "I'm going now. Call me when you are ready to come home?" I've seen it, and as soon as mother gets out of sight, the child screams for her. I've seen it happen many times.

Does the mother hate the child? Of course not! But there also comes a time when the parents will throw the child out because they can't stand his behavior. Do they love him? Yes, they do. And the times I have seen this happen, it has worked, the child has come back to the parents, usually quite repentant. Sometimes they come back the same night, sometime they take years, but it has worked for them.

Now, can God do less? Can God send someone to hell without a warning? Yes, the warning is in the Bible, but He does warn them.

The wicked are no friend of Jesus.

God hated Esau. God hates workers of inequity. God hated the Canaanites for their immorality. And, Jesus said the most hateful things about people found in the entire Bible.

It's a lie that God loves everyone. It's a lie that hurts the church because it invites the wicked to accuse Christians of hate. It causes Christians to be on the defensive. It causes Christians to grovel. It causes Christians to aid their enemies who attack Christianity. It's a lie told by cowards who don't want to be judged by the wicked.

He meant that Jesus/God should be #1 in your life.
And I agree with that interpretation. But there are people in this thread looking at the OT God hates Esau and saying that it is proof that God hates certain people, but when the NT says you should hate your parents, well that really means something else. I don’t read either of them literally. God loves everyone. He hates the sin but loves the sinner.

Your little illustration has nothing to do with the text.

Prayers not needed when the Will of God is revealed.

OBEDIENCE.

But you wont obey the LORD.

Taking note.

Seeking TRUE brethren.
