Haggai 2:23 talks about Zerubbabel being the son of Shealtiel and is apparently a prophecy about Jesus' ancestors. Matthew 1:12-13 and Luke 3:27 say that they were Jesus' ancestors with Zerubbabel being the son of Shealtiel (though they disagree who is the father of Shealtiel).

1 Chronicles 3:17-20 talks about Shealtiel and Zerubbabel. It seems to say Shealtiel is the uncle of Zerubbabel because Zerubbabel's father is Pedaiah. Or is Shealtiel Pedaiah's father? I'm not sure what it is saying. Thanks.

I'm sorry, is this your most pressing question about Christianity?

Actually, commentators on Chronicles have a number of different theories.

I published a book that includes a section about the genealogies in Matthew and Luke:
Comment on my Christmas book....
I had already thought that this already showed that at least one of the genealogies seemed to be invented and then finding out about 1 Chronicles 3 made this problem even worse. Since I couldn't find a counter-argument for this, I'm asking it here. I can find counter-arguments pretty easily for other issues I have with Christianity.

Actually, commentators on Chronicles have a number of different theories.
Could you provide links or quotes please? (ideally I wouldn't have to order a book)

I was also going to mention:

1 Chronicles 3:19-20 says there were 7 sons of Zerubbabel. The son of Zerubbabel mentioned in Matthew 1:13, Abihud, and the son of Zerubbabel mentioned in Luke 3:27, Rhesa, aren't in that list of 7 sons.

That previous link talks about that a bit about that though the 7 seemed to me to be a complete list.

It also said "many Jews were known by more than one name" which sounds reasonable.

Respected commentators Keil & Delitzsch suggest "levirate marriage" (Deuteronomy 25:5-10) as a solution: that Zerubbabel was legally Shealtiel's son, but biologically Pedaiah's.

A lot of Christians including my family that I gave or sold the book to thought it was good. It caused me to do quite a bit of research.

Thanks for the link. It is very informative. It says that Shealtiel and Pedaiah were brothers.
From my research levirate marriage was also one of the earliest explanations for the differences in the genealogies in Matthew and Luke. I just thought that it was interesting that when I looked even further into the Zerubbabel thing it led to even more apparent problems. BTW recently I had a very significant event that leads me to think that there is an intelligent force in the universe trying to communicate to me. I talked to a pastor over coffee yesterday about questions I had, etc.
