Moses, the very humble, but not weak, powerful, holy man of God...

Moses, the very humble, (in the scriptures it says he was) but not weak, powerful, holy (and good, or at least decent) (and righteous, but not self-righteous) man of God...

And excellent example for us, (except for maybe the anger issue(s) that kept him out of the promised land/paradise) (or from (possibly, it's being disputed anyway) crossing over, or getting into heaven) (Jude 1:9)...

He (Moses) was told to speak to the rock (Numbers 20:8) But in a moment of uncontorollable anger, he struck the rock (instead). (Numbers 20:11) (Psalms 78:20)... He (Moses) is called and "accuser" (John 5:45) and Satan is called an "accuser" of the bretheren (Revelation 12:10)...

And Satan, perhaps told to only just speak to the rock (Christ) struck it/him (Christ) (on/at the cross) perhaps in a moment of anger...

Moses represents the Law, and Elijah, the prophets, on/at the mount of transfiguration... (Matthew 17:2-3) (Mark 9:2-4)...

The Law cannot save, but only has the power to convict or condemn, or accuse...

I don't know where to go from here with this...?

Thoughts...?

What does all of this mean...?

I just know, I kind of want to be like Moses, in that he was humble yet powerful, and/yet but not weak... (but maybe perhaps, minus the anger issues)...

God Bless!

I don't think Moses had anger management issues.

You probably don't have an idea unless you lived your whole life among people who complains all the time about their situation in life, blaming you for everything, and is depending on you.

It's not an easy thing to deal with, eventually, you wear out from all the criticisms and negativity.

It's just that. I would have also struck the rock in his place...No...I would have struck the nearest complainer to me!

God held Moses to a very, very high standard, so much so, that one split second moment of anger kept him out of the promised land (paradise) and possibly out of Heaven... (Jude 1:9)...

Oh believe me I do know... I do know... And I never got angry back for a very long time, and endured it all for a very long time... Till I eventually left, but never stopped loving them...

I know, I know...

Do you think you will be held to the same high standard as Moses...?

LOL! I can relate to this.

There's a hilarious conversation that Moses had with God about this ungrateful and treacherous people he was leading....and it was about Moses asking God why He "cursed" him with these people....he asked, in essence, "Did i give birth to them"?

I mean he was exasperated. I don't blame him. They tried to kill him at least twice, and even his own sister and brother turned against him...that's why Miriam was struck with leprosy (because she was the ring leader with Aaron).

Love this thread. Moses was a very dear dear man of God, although not perfect. Can you imagine being in charge of sooooo many, and some who just hated you and grumbled at ev'ry opportunity, and back-bited?

This video comes to mind. The actor who plays Moses was soooo real....watch his face as he witnesses God parting the Red Sea. I can relate, cuz my face would be the same:

Moses, Moses

I was gutted for Moses not being able to cross the Jordan - that must have hurt

It was some calling though. I've herd about pastors complaining about the flock but Moses job was on another scale.

As far as not making it into heaven - didn't Moses appear on the Mountain at the transfiguration of Jesus? Where did the old testament prophets go when they died. Elijah never died and Moses did, yet they both appear on the Mountain with Jesus.

I also wonder what happened to Moses' Staff - it would make an interesting Indiana Jones Film.

Hi Firestorm, and a belated welcome to CF :)

I'm wondering what you meant when you had a question about Moses possibly not going to heaven? Did i misunderstand?

By the way, your last comment was funny. I agree with Neo on that. :D

God held Moses to a very, very high standard, so much so, that one split second moment of anger kept him out of the promised land (paradise) and possibly out of Heaven... (Jude 1:9)...

There is something more at work here. First, Moses was given much spiritual gifts and the rod he used is endowed with power as well.

What Moses did may had a profound (very negative) impact to the rock. Rocks used for building an altar for God must be uncut (because cutting a rock defiles it).

Imagine what a rod endowed with power will do to a rock struck by it. The act may have defiled the rock with something sacred (the rod). Which if true would be a huge abomination in God's eyes.

Do you think you will be held to the same high standard as Moses...?

It depends on what you have been gifted with.

Certain "gifts" come at a great cost. Most only has to contend with being faithful stewards of God's possessions and given abilities. Even so, quite many fail at it.

And then there's supernatural gifts, where consequences of mistakes are far more damaging.

Moses had the best of intentions but one mistaken act (both out of anger and possibly out of ignorance) sealed his fate. Unfortunately, serving pivotal roles for God isn't exactly that cool. It's mostly blood, sweat, and tears and the stakes and risks are of Biblical proportions!

Just recall that the staff, or rod, was not powerful, in and of itself, (as if it were some magical rod, or something), but it only had power in Moses hand only, and because of only God, his God, and not the staff/rod itself... And Moses had to strike it twice, almost as if God was trying to tell him something the first time...

God Bless!

Probably mainly maybe because of Jude 1:9...?

That's what made me question it anyway, and that the promised land was symbolic of paradise or possibly Heaven also, maybe...?

God Bless!

Awwwwww God would never ever keep His Moses out of heaven. Jude seems to be referring to a "spiritual warfare" of sorts.

Moses surely was in heaven, not only because he appeared in the transfiguration, but because upon his death, he was STILL a man of God, and that is why God Himself buried him. God did not allow Moses to entered the "earthly" promised land, but this does not mean that he would not be with God in heaven.

I'm pleased to meet you too :)

Just don't get fixated on the Indiana Jones soundtrack - once in your mind it just runs over and over and over and over and aaaaagh ! Even in your sleep :)

The quote about Moses' not getting into the promised land/heaven was in response to Neo's first post on this thread. I was just pointing out that while he may have been buried on the east side of the Jordan ( in some mystery location ) that he did appear in the promised land with Jesus during the transfiguration presuming the mountain was actually in Israel.
