I see this as a struggle happening inside of people, evil people being symbolic of evil elements inside of you.

I was only going to post verses 11-12. But then I got to reading the rest, and realized that it's been a while since I read Proverbs.


3Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart.
4Then you will win favor and a good name
in the sight of God and man.

5Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.a

There are some good things about the internet... sometimes I do need to remind myself of that. One of them is being able to study and ask questions about scripture. It's easy to take that for granted, since we are now used to having that kind of information at our fingertips.

Case in point... I often wondered if the verse above meant that children were punished for the sins of their parents. I think this page give an excellent analysis of the scripture above, with references to other related scriptures... and pretty much sums up my interpretations on the subject: Does God "Visit the Sins of the Fathers on the Children"?

At times, some of the things stated in scripture seem unfair to me. But in my heart I know that God is good. Faith is paramount. And scripture also says that we are all given a choice (1 Corinthians 10:13, or Ezekiel 33:14-15). God is deep, and scripture is deep. When we try to narrow it all down to one verse, we don't see that.
