So,I've dealt with anxiety and depression for quite a a while,I have crippling loneliness, depression, anxiety. I've been praying, mediating on the word of God for 2 months, expecting breakthrough and nothing is any different. Why is this? I just don't understand. I know God can do it,but nothing changes. I'm getting impatient,I'm really really depresssed and I despertly want change in my life right now. I want to experience Gods goodness but nothings different.

Do you you attend a church that helps you? You can find a church with people doing "Love one another", and join them. It's good to pray for help finding a church as we search. Pray to our Father, asking in Jesus's name, with faith it will be given to you, because you are doing His will. Also, here's the prayer Christ gave you to pray daily --
Matthew 6 NIV

Take time to be greeted when you go, and expect some to be friendly, and don't rush, since these can be the beginning of a long term relationship, and can also lead to meeting more.

Find a way to serve others, there's healing in serving and it's a good way to get outside of yourself. Don't expect anything in return, just spread love and kindness.
Go rake leaves or shovel snow for someone, read to a blind person, record a book on tape, find a school tutor program, visit someone in a nursing home, run errands for someone.

There are possibly things that God knows you need to surrender about your character that this delay in response is bringing up. You mentioned you are getting impatient... that may be one area that God knows you are lacking and need His Spirit.

My wife suffers from a recent manifestation of high level anxiety and while it is hard both for her to experience and for me to watch, it is doing a work of revealing defects in both our characters that we are prayerfully learning to surrender.

Great suggestions! These can also help with developing Christ's character in us and removing our own.

Hello @john6574. What do you think happened in your life that led up to the time in which you started to become anxious? I also have anxiety and depression. You can send me a message if you dont want to talk about it here. I think everyone has been through things they would never want everyone to know about.

Good advice.

It sounds unreasonable to remove the focus from yourself, but that is what helps.

The thing is that when change is to happen, people need to take action. We have the most ability to change the way we act, in ways that nobody else can do for us, and in ways that we can't do for others too. So that is where you have the greatest strength of influence - through taking action yourself.

So far as God is involved in that, He is the one who is mindful of all (Psalms 8:5) and He is the one who commands the heavenly host (Hosea 12:5). The problem for us as humans is that we have been separated from Him and have lost sight of His true nature, and that is a frustrating, distressing experience, and while He ministers to us to try and bring us to healing, we need to accept some things that we might not want to accept - whether they be mistakes that we don't want to own, or whether they be resentments towards others that have hurt us.. these are the sorts of things that cause us to harden our heart toward Him, pretending that He is not saying what He really is saying (consider Isaiah 6:10).

So the way to get through this to the green pastures and still waters (Psalms 23), is to hear what He is saying and follow Him to that place. You say you have been meditating on the bible, and I suppose that means that you have read a passage and then committed your mind to dwell upon it and think about various ways it can apply wisdom to your life.. but this is not necessarily the same as hearing God speak to you.

Do you recognise when God speaks to you through the bible?

Depression sometimes transcends the understanding the crudeness called modern medicine.

Often times, depression is a spiritual barometer - whether it has to do personally with you, or whether it is a sensitivity to the world.

Your body may be doing exactly what it is supposed to do. People are. Always are always being murdered, raped, there is racism for no reason all over the world, war hasn' stoped in your lifetime, or your parents' lifetime. The food is becoming inedible, crops are dying, etc.

You can't because turn to people, because we are taught to ignore the bad and focus on the good. But, this is terribly unhealthy for the mind and body. Let yourself feel without attaching it to a demerit.

God may be trying to get your attention, and to induce deeper thought about your own existentialism in relation to Him.

I think two tools are helpful in any situation. Once is constant prayer (1 Thess 5:17) and the other is obedience (John 14:15).

Not really,I've always said I'm gonna focus on this verse and then I mediate on it. I've never heard an audible voice from the Lord,I don't know if you agree with that, but I need to allow God to direct me to a certain chapter/verse and allow him to speak to me through that.

That's ok, I'm asking about this because God is spirit so the perception of what He says in spirit is a thing that we learn through trusting, and sometimes people can be a bit hesitant to really believe that it is a normal experience, because it isn't something you can easily capture and demonstrate with a camera and microphone - yet He does long for us to form a relationship with Him through trusting Him (John 4:23-24), and this is the major reason that Jesus came and spoke to us in person, so that we would know His voice (John 10:27).

Can you describe a bit more about what you mean when you said that God will direct you to meditate on a certain chapter/verse? How is it that you perceive His instruction to go to a specific chapter and verse?

Like when I read, the Holy Spirit will minister to me through a certain verse. Not like meditate but as a read allowing the Holy Spirit to guide me as I read.

Ah, I think I understand (I am just trying to picture how God speaks to you through the scriptures - there is a few ways He can do that). Do you mean that no matter where you begin reading, you will get to a certain point in the passage where suddenly that verse just leaps out and speaks to you - the lights go on, the penny drops, you know you have received divine revelation in a personal way? I ask this because the idea I had before is that you would somehow receive His instruction for which book/chapter/verse to turn to, and when you read it, then you would receive that divine revelation. These are just two ways that He is able to speak to us through the scriptures.

It may be that you are trying too hard.

This is advice that I've given to people who are seeking God and aren't sure how to do it or haven't had success with the results of their efforts.

Here is the advice. Just listen to the Bible in high dosages. Don't over think it, just listen to it. Start with Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, then go to Genesis, Exodus,(skip these if its killing your flow, Leviticus, Numbers,) Deuteronomy, Joshua, judges, etc.

The gospels give you the more complete picture of Jesus than what you've probably learned and the Old testament will give you a more complete picture than you've probably learned.

2 things happen.
First, you learn what it actually says.
The 2nd thing is that you are filling your mind with the Word of God.
Depending on what your calendar looks like, you can knock out a book a day.
Try this for a week and see what happens.
This link is to KJV, there are audio also Bibles for NIV, which has easier to language.
Listen To The King James Bible
