It was a humungous undertaking :whoa: and necessary
because, the -uphill-slope, used-to begin, at the side of the path
and so was useless for any practical-use
Afterwards, the family had opportunity (not so-regular use)
of sunbeds and reclining-chairs
~ on those few occasions, that our back-garden
became a sun-trap
to rival my experience of, Cyprus (all those, years-ago) 38.C - 43.C

I had even installed timbers ~to keep the lawn off of the borders

It is a wilderness....
While I have memories, of every direction and seasonal-situation
The present situation is still LIVING ~if-not entirely 'presentable'

Dave, you're making progress and it shows. Thank God you have a strong back and hands that work. You'll be rewarded in the end. Enjoy your results with family and friends. Looks like a beautiful place to grill some shrimps.

I love being in the garden late afternoon in autumn. The slight chill in the air gives me a sense of expectancy and going indoors afterwards to a warm drink and cheerfully lit home is one of my pleasures. Unfortunately I left it so late this week that I could hardly see what I was doing when planting bulbs. Firstly I carefully planned an arrangement of hyacinths with daffodils around them, before realising that I'd done it the wrong way around and then I didn't have enough light to know what I was planting, so I did a trough at random, and am looking forward to seeing what appears in spring. :D

I can't believe how fast my bulbs have grown since the snow cleared and the weather turned warmer. Both the daffodils and hyacinths have shot up, leading me to think that it was the snow which held them back, not just the fact that I planted them late. They actually look better the wrong way around as the daffs are taller and the trough planted in the dark looks okay. :D

I noticed a few leaves on the fuchsia. Blossom is coming out on the trees, and everything 'spring-like' is looking good. The other plants have not shown any growth yet, however the weeds have!  Need to tidy up soon! :D

My pink Glories of the Snow bloomed (I think it was last week) and my neighbor's daffodils are blooming. They bloom before mine, but by Monday, I'll bet some of mine will be in bloom. I have all different kinds and want more! The different ones bloom at different times.

I think fuschias are an annual around here. I'm going to order some annuals Friday, I think.

I came across these pic's earlier
they show, my 2009-2010 'work' out in the back garden
I couldn't do 'that' today

The intention was to create a level-area immediately-beside the path

Those were the days, my friend. When my husband passed away I had a ton of plants cleared from the back yard because I knew I wouldn't be able to keep up with all the work. I have a very large yard. You and are very close to the same age.

The weather was so nice today that I decided to walk to the back of the yard where most of the daffodils are. A few 'Ice King' are in bloom --- probably less that six.

The ones with the orange centers are 'Barrett Browning' daffodils. Those are the first ones I planted and I really love them.

Thank you, Pilgrim. My oldest daughter doesn't like bulbs. I don't understand because I go nuts in the spring when they all start blooming.

Two years ago I planted 'Sempre Avanti' daffodils and now I realize they're almost like 'Barrett Browning." Oh, well.

Do any of you have daffodils?

History of Tulips and Daffodils
This story does not start in Holland, but it does end there. In simplest terms, Tulips are from Central Asia. And Daffodils are from Spain and Portugal.

I finally located my other file of flowers from my yard:

Hello, Phoebe Ann

Love the photos you have posted for us to enjoy! We don't grow daffodils ourselves, but I love them as they dispel winter blues or more accurately greys :D and set one's thoughts vividly on warmer days to come. The plain yellow ones are my favourites as that colour is my favourite one - so bright and cheery. :)

I like the yellow ones best too. The daffs I planted are miniature double-headed ones, which reminded me of freesias when they came into bud. They are surrounded by deep blue (almost mauve) spear-headed hyacinths and the two colours contrast well. I have no means of taking photos so I can't share the pictures.

Thank you for sharing your photos Phoebe Ann, and everyone else who does so. :)
