Does anyone here have any experience with wigs that are not worn for costume play but for hair loss? One of my sweetest friends was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma and is seeking suggestions for heat-resistant synthetic or human hair wigs that are under $1200. Some of my adult friends who are observant Jews wear wigs because that is a custom for married women, but many of the brands they love, such as Follea, are dauntingly expensive. It's more sensible for them to spend so much since it's a long-term investment, whereas with my friend her hair will grow back within a year, so she can't justify spending several thousand dollars for a wig. Her insurance will reimburse part of the wig cost, but there's a cap. She's also looking for a wig that is an age-appropriate style since she's only 18. Her prognosis is excellent, so she's in good spirits about her health, but crushed about the hair loss. I'd love to be able to pass along any recommendations anyone may have for her!

Have the gals on here ever gotten REAL upset about a hairdo? My girlfriend & I are going to a formal soon, so she's been doing her hair and brows, getting ready for it. She spent $300 plus tip on her hair. She got this Brazilian keratin treatment, this French baylayage hair coloring. I know I'm not spelling it right, but it's this fancy highlighting technique. Plus a cut. She's unhappy with it, after all that. I don't get it. She'd looked great before she did all that. I told her that all the time. She's beautiful. I'm feeling bad about this on account of how she said she wanted to do it all for me, since it's been tough on us living in different states this past year. She wanted to look extra special for the formal.

I liked her original hair. Of course I told her I loved this hair too. Ladies, y'all don't have to do all this expensive stuff for us. If you're with a man who loves you for you he's not going to need you to spend $300 on your hair. I wish I could have gotten that through to her ahead of time.

I tend to avoid getting my hair cut short but I have gotten upset about hair cuts that didn't go quite right in the past. And I know quite a few ladies that got hair cuts or dyes they were not happy about. Sometimes they were fixable.. sometimes they just had to wait until hair grew out again. If I spent $300 on hair... and I didn't like how it turned out... I'd be upset too. I'd be upset even if I didn't pay that much.

I've never gotten upset over hair before and my hair has accidentally turned orange twice :p it is frustrating when you spend a ton of time and money and don't like your hair (2nd time I turned orange it probably cost around $500 between the two appointments), but the way I see it is it's a fun adventure regardless. Its just hair, so have fun with it!

Disclaimer- I am the kind of person who cuts her own hair or throws dye in it when I'm bored.

Last month I chopped off some of my hair.... Okay chopped sounds a little exteme... I actually got my mom to cut about 10 inches off, so now it's up to my shoulders, it was getting very out of control and SUPER tangly. Like knotted and terrible.

Now it's all swayey and cute! :satisfied: But it just kind of sit there and I want to do something awesome with it. I'm not like those girls that have a natural wavy kind of hair or curly, it's just frizz or nothing. :p

Nice. I like the side part. What is up with so many gals parting their hair straight down the middle now? They look like Marcia Brady from the rerun of the Brady Bunch. Not that I'm really one to talk about hair on account of how mine is military undercut.

I used to part mine in the middle. But I often part it a little to the side now. I think when I was a teen most girls parted their hair down the middle. Both can look good.

Speaking of hair, I have encountered this really strange and annoying problem lately. My hair is kind of low maintaince. I mean it’s curly so it takes lots of produce and arm power but other than a home trim once and a while it always looks ... well ... like it always does.

My problem? Recently it’s become long and now the top struggles to curl! Sooo my roots are straight and the rest is still curly! Unless I work a bottle of mousse even with boat loads of mousse you can see the top and side are starting to fall.

Simple solution? Chop it!
Ummm that’s dangerous and soul crushing so I’m using that as a last resort especially after a coworker said it may not be the weight buuuut actually just the fact I’m just getting...

OLD!

Basically if you have any ideas or just anti-old encouragement, lay it on me!

I used to have long hair (like, down to my butt long hair), but after having that for a while and experiencing the endless maintenance of such a ridiculous amount of hair (I have thick hair too), I chopped it all off and have kept it about shoulder length. I sometimes miss my long hair, but find shorter hair much more enjoyable (and SOOO much cooler, especially in summer).

As of right now, I have green highlights in my hair, which I'm hoping to keep up for a while.

I really like your length Squeaks. It definitely suits you. You are making the idea of chopping my hair more appealing.

Gah! What is happening?!

@RayofSun On one hand I feel like your hair is #hairgoals :satisfied: It's SO SO gorgeous. And you're not old, nor are you even close to being. :satisfied: On the other hand, I totally get the hassle of long hair. I don't have curly hair, so I'm not really sure how to help in that area but I feel like unless it's truly a problem or you feel like you just cant manage it I wouldn't necessarily say chop it off.

Hair is a weird thing, I know I've brought this up many times but the time before this last time (was that confusing? lol) I cut my hair short it took a longggg time to grow back and that really freaked me out. My hair has always been a fast grower and for it to take such a long time was kind of unsettling. I cut my hair again last month, up to my shoulders because it's thick and it was getting matted...Like seriously no joke, it would get into these tight tangles even after just brushing my hair out. I miss my long hair, like @Squeakers I use to have super long hair but it's just gotten too crazy to maintain and now I think for awhile I'll stick wit hshoulder length hair. Oh and it's back to growing fast. :sorry: I guess I bring that up to say if you chop your hair off, the curls may not come back, or they may come back full force. It's just something you will have to decide if its worth it or not I guess.

But you really do have epically beautiful hair and I'm a little jealous of all those glorious curls. :D

Aww I promise it does not always look like that. BUT that is the coolest and sweetest compliment. I loved Phantom of the Opera when I was in high school. Low key obsessed. Haha

Oh Jennie. Thank you my friend.
Okay so no chop, but I guess I'll have to search for other solutions... The tangles are kind of crazy and now I know the length is what is adding to it. Glad to at least know to expect that whether I have curls or straight hair haha.

Also thank you for saying I'm not old. Hahaha
