Galatians 5:17, compare 1 John 3:9...I cannot do the things that I would, which is to sin. I very much identify with my flesh; but I don't obey it, i.e. what I want to do in my flesh because the Spirit of Jesus within me is Lord. This is opposed to comparing Galatians 5:17 to Romans 7:19 for the carnal believer, who obeys his flesh but is afflicted by his conscience over it, and would live holy but finds he can't: I believe this is because he doesn't recognize the evil of who he is in the old man and isn't submitted in his behaviour to the Lordship of Christ.Sin is also not doing/teaching/saying what we know is Good and Truth.
Heb 3:12-15 is exhorting believers to remain in His doctrines and His plan for their lives.
Funny/ironic that these verse are even brought up since they are speaking of those believers who have lost their ASSURANCE in Christ. John 10:28
New American Standard Bible
For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end,
We are not partakers with Christ if we have lost our assurance/security in Him. Still saved, but back in diapers.
It seems that most people who are working for salvation would love to go back to a life of sin.
Seems that folks who have even a tiny bit of His grace understood..............run from sin rather than wanting to go back to it.
