Only 3 million posts in 12 years. Yeah, probably needs an upgrade!

42 posts per hour per day (with 8 hours of "off time" factored in, which is probably way more than actual) 365 days a year. I used to be impressed by his post count, though it is still pretty impressive, until I saw that the majority of his posts are in the counting threads.

Is there some kind of point to the counting thread?

To count! Duh! ;)

On some older forums I used to frequent where post count got you privileges they used to do the counting threads to up their post count and activity. The admins knew what it was but let it happen anyway. Later they just kind of became a thing.

Yes. It's a wunnerful outlet for me to post quotes :D

And for Av, we sometimes share a bit o' humor together on my counting threads, and sometimes on his.

It puzzles me - is it ego? why is it so important to have a fake grossly inflated post count?

It reminds me of people who wear obviously fake Rolexes and other brands, as if the fraud itself is something to be proud of...

IMO, for some reason, post count, seemed to make AV feel like he was an authority and because of his count, his opinion was somehow more valid. He would often critique other people who disagreed with him and would point out their opinion was not valid, because they had so few posts.

Manufactured credibility, is important to some.

Some years ago someone implied that he may be limited in what he can do or where he can go. He replied by neither confirming nor denying.

He shared on the last thread when he was amongst the missing, that it was due to illness, and that there are some health issues that do limit him.

Many forum regulars are limited in what they can do or where they can go; forums are a good way of meeting, discussing, and socialising for people in that situation.

I don't see how that relates to a need for artificially boosting spurious status indicators, though...

Agree.

Maybe he left, because more people started to tune him out. I think attention was a big driver for him.
