Good evening everyone I hope to hear some interesting opinions on the 100% true story that I am about to tell you.

I am not a religious person (seriously doubting that now) - but two weeks ago I had an incredible experience. Please remember when I tell this story that I have never read the bible. Ever. I knew the stories of Noah's Ark, Adam and Eve and one or two things about Jesus but not much.

One month ago my first son was born. Two weeks ago I went to bed as normal but had a very very vivid dream that my son was seriously ill. But very seriously ill, on the point of death. In the dream I remember walking out into the street outside the house where my son was laying ill and asking out loud ....what can I do? From nothing, in my dream, my vision went completely black and all I could see was the word John, followed by the number 46, brightly shining on a black background. I woke up from my dream confused, and had no idea what it meant.

It was only after a few minutes that it struck me that it may be a bible verse. I looked it up and nearly choked on my coffee. I googled John 46 and the first results were the passage of John 4:46 about a man asking Jesus to HEAL HIS SON who was dying. After healing the mans son, Jesus says something about people needing signs to believe.

Remember I have never read the bible, there can be no place in my subconscious that remembers this bible verse. I have never read it before.

What do you think? Does God use dreams? I'm pretty freaked out by it all!

Thank you!

Yep. God certainly does speak through dreams. It's all over the Bible. I also had dreams from God before I was born-again, except they were 20 years before, when I was a child, telling me how I would be saved basically. Prophetic.

I can't tell you whether your dream is prophetic or just symbolic, but God is definitely calling you. You should keep reading John. Start with chapter 1.

"The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." John 1:5

By God's grace I go by the Word of God; I do also have dreams and quite honestly some of them are weird; I wouldn't want to feel bound by them. :)

When God gives a dream He confirms it with His Spirit. And it's in the Word of God. Acts 2:17
It's nothing to fear. It's God giving prophecy to His children. :)

But it's not for everyone, because not everyone has the gift.

I think this would particularly happen when there was as yet no completed Bible. (I wouldn't want anyone else to be influenced by some of the weird stuff I literally dream up.)

Well, He does give dreams and visions today, to a lot of people. That quote is from Joel 2:28, and the following verses are about the days just before the Day of the Lord. Look it up!

But let's not get into an argument in this thread, because this thread is about God calling someone to Himself by inspiring him to read the Bible. Let's focus on that.

God works in mysterious ways, and He wants to make His will known, and for no one to perish. Let's leave it at that for the sake of the OP. And I wouldn't mock the things of God if I were you.

I wouldn't see the church in Joel 2.28; and I wouldn't say it's mockery to make such observations.

But we must move on, like you say.

Yes, He does.

Every son or daughter born on earth inherits Adam's Original Sin(ROMANS.5:12) = are bound for hell when they eventually die = needed to be saved from hell by Jesus Christ through the Word of God or Bible.
....... Sin is like an inherited illness which needs to be treated and cured. ...
.

JOHN.1: = 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ...

4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. ...

10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. 11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. ...

29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

There are meaningless dreams and then there are dreams that are more like a vision. You are describing the latter in my opinion.

I have dreams that are like visions sometimes. I've had some that are very profound and others you might question as to where they are from. One I can recall off hand involved scripture as well ( like yours did), I had prayed for clarity ( I often pray for clarity) . A man, I'd take him as an Isaiah sort of figure came up beside me in the dream and quoted from the book of James. I said to him how odd it is that I have hardly read the book of James and he was gone as if he knew that. So I awoke and opened my bible, didn't have to read far when I got the scripture about the double minded man. This speaks of getting one foot out of the world and all of me into the spirit. This was a blockage in my walk at that time.

I've had satanic dreams like a vision too. And I won't get into that right now but they tend to come when I am coming out boldly for Jesus. My most recent one I think gave me a sign that Satan sees he isn't winning me. It appeared as a clear sign to me.

But you, John: Jesus is calling you. You have a son, raise him right, so he knows God. Reading your story I feel uplifted, that God is working ! You know this is a time where churches are falling away from true doctrine. Many of us believe there are more personal encounters going on these days, where Jesus is ministering more directly. There are people in Iraq and in India who have come to Christ because He first came to them in dreams with no Christian church to instill the thought ( sound familiar ?). One guy had dreams for 7 years of Jesus appearing before him, he was a Muslim and couldn't understand this phenomenon, then he turned to Jesus and accepted him. The dreams stopped. And the pastor who told me this story (had been on a missionary trip over there) said that he told the man it stopped because He now dwells in you. Your dream John, I believe is a sign to you of the reality of God. And this is not about religion, it is about believing or not believing in Jesus Christ as your savior. Get yourself a bible and never let it go !
