Hi, I am new here. I am a soldier deployed in Afghanistan. I am looking to get closer to god, repent my sins, seek guidance, seek advice, and be a better man for myself. I have made so many mistakes in my life and especially recently when I feel like I lost the love of my life, Sarah, forever. I have never been baptized but I went to Church alot when I was growing up. However, I have striven so far away from what a man should be in my eyes and gods eyes. The only thing honorable about me I feel is the fact that Im serving my country. Where do I go to vent about my sins and seek advice? I want Christians to help me heal and give me advice. I have been talking to family and some friends who are Christians. Thank you - Alex

Hello Alex, Welcome dear friend, I wish you were close to me, as I would have ya come to church here.
Talk to God my friend. Repent of your sins {Read Romans 10.9} confess with your mouth that Jesus is now the Lord of your life and find a local church to start growing in the Word and be baptized. We have all failed God many times and we are all sinners but God says He is just to forgive us when we ask.
PM me anytime if I may help you in any way :] Bless You

Hi; good to see you. John's Gospel is a great book of the Bible to get to know well. Also Psalm 46 is a great strength to those who trust God.

and you too!
HUA! My son retired a few years ago having done many missions over there---CW4 US Army Bronze star, career 24 years. (In fact you can see him/chopper in American Soldier video as he lifts relief supplies after Pakistan earthquake.)

WAR IS HARD and without God you just won't get through it well...imo. My son never lost a guy in his platoon while he was over it, and his chinook never took a hit while he was flying it. That's GOD's protection. The old adage you won't find an atheist in a fox hole is true today, those under mission battles know there is a God. Serve Him, speak to others about His love and protection. Keep the faith.

None of us are perfect; the key is the attitude of worship and reliance upon God, and doing our best.

Thank you for the kind words. I read Romans 10:9 and I did just that this morning for 35 minutes. I have been praying everyday. I will be reading Psalm 43 right now. One of my goals is to read one section of the Bible a day, and study it in my free time when I’m not working. I have a question. I mentioned that I feel I have lost the love of my life, Sarah, forever. Is there anyway I can vent or get advice in a certain place on here? Where’s the best place to ask Christians like yourselves to get closer to god? I can relate to the necessity of god in combat being an airborne infantryman. There have been times where it just seems by gods will that I have been saved when I should have died for sure.

Well, be thankful that you were never married! You're still young!

It's good also to keep 'looking unto Jesus' (Hebrews 12.2).

Well faroukfarouk.... we both wanted to get married and she was the stronger believer. I pushed her away at every turn. Should I PM someone or go to a sub thread section such as general struggles, or go to the chaplain section? I need to explain the full story and how this has impacted me.

Well, feel free to do whatever you decide; but I think that for a couple to get married they both need to be very sure about it. You know the saying: Marry in haste; repent at leisure. You're still young; and you are in the blessed position also of not having rushed into marriage when could indeed have done so when evidently you were not both very sure about it.

It's good to keep 'looking unto Jesus' (Hebrews 12.2).

Farouk,

We were both sure. When we started fighting I wanted to put those talks on the back burner while we figured things out and it got to the point where I was overwhelmed with deplyoment, talking about this when I was thousands of miles away, and I said I didnt want to hear about it or think about it at that point. I should have clarified to her that I still wanted to, but what we were fighting about.... I just pushed her away even more due to a lack of communication.... She was sure the whole time, and I pushed her to the point where she gave up on everything.

Scotty, I will certainly PM you when I get the chance later on in the day. My Chain of Command has noticed something is very wrong and they are telling me to go to the Chaplain. I dont know if the praying and speaking to god has helped, but the support I've gotten is great. A random neighbor civilian contractor heard me breaking down in my room, crying and praying to god and she asked if I wanted to talk. I talked to her for an hour and half or so last night. It helped immensely.

Hello Alex,

I will pray for you now that I found your "thread".

I was never in a war, far from home like you are, but I do know now that when we ask Jesus to come into our heart, and be our Lord and Saviour, He does. He never leaves me, but I turn my back on Him at times. He is always waiting with his patience and love, for me to come running "home" to Him though.

I know how a desire for a woman, or like mine, my desire was to have my man. I wanted him so much, too much, because I put the Lord on the "back burner" All I could do was focus on my now, X-husband. My christian friends told me to look to Jesus, keep Him first in my life. Let Him "do the driving" in my life. But I didn't listen. Now I am alone, and 65. But then again, I am growing closer and closer to Jesus and He is more than enough.

Let Him take the lead in your life Alex, none of us are perfect at that, but I found if I took one, tiny step toward Jesus, it was like He took the rest of the steps to me. Pray/talk to Him, like He is sitting, standing and walking beside you, because He is.

Mat 1:23
“Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,”[fn] which is translated, “God with us.”

I also want to add, reading about David, (the guy who did ole Goliath in) brought me to a much deeper understanding of God. David made a ton of mistakes, but he always turned to back to God. You can find his story in the Old Testament (1 Samuel 17). I'll leave you with a Psalm that David wrote as well Alex, and may God bless you. I know there will be a lot of prayers for you :

Psalms 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Great Psalm there. Luther liked it a lot; he based his hymn 'A mighty fortress is our God' on it.
