Yes; anyone have a P&W song that helped them get closer to Christ and through a hurdle in life?

Here is one that has helped me several times; the last several verses really strengthened me when I needed it; the last time about an hour ago.

Jesus commands my destiny;
No power of hell, no scheme of man;
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
'til He returns or calls me home;
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand.

In Christ Alone

When I was feeling weary, pessimistic, and distressed from health issues I found catharsis from writing songs and poems. I wrote one about having Jesus alongside me as I made my way through the trials of winter to the hopefulness of spring. Friends who were in the band at the church I grew up attending are professional musicians and liked the song and asked to cover it. They did a more beautiful job bringing it to life than I could have.

Autumn

Another day
Filtered through tears,
'Cause the broken hope
Has become the fear.

Shoulders low
From sorrowed days,
Cry an empty prayer
From a borrowed faith.

Autumn's gone
And winter's here,
Just know my love
That spring is near.

When the night
Has swallowed hope,
Rest assured, the sun
Is soon to show.

Someday soon
The pain will cease,
And the sun will rise
On the darkness seen.

Autumn's gone
And winter's here,
Just know my love
That spring is near.

Take my hand
And walk with me,
'Cause I met this man
In Galilee.

The burden's hard
And the pain is deep,
But blood is strong enough
To set you free.

Autumn's gone
And winter's here,
Just know my love
That spring is near.

When the cold
Chills the bone,
Know that heaven's near
To hold you close.

And when no praise
Can find your lips,
Let the One who knows
Lend you His.

Autumn's gone
And winter's here,
Just know my love
That spring is near.

When you wake
And the silence breaks,
Hear the melody
Of the angels sing.

Autumn's gone
And winter's here,
Just know my love
That spring is near,
Autumn's gone
And winter's here,
Just know my love
That spring is near,
Just know my love
That spring is near.

I have posted this song all over CF. Not so long ago I was down in the dumps mentally and spiritually because of some struggles in my personal life.I felt like I just wanted the world to stop and let me get off.I cried out to my Father in Heaven screaming WHY LORD. Here is His answer.

I was sitting up in bed at 3a.m. with tears flowing and snot running as this song ministered to me.

I know so many songs that make me get up and dance around the room. :)
One of my current favourites is Old Church choir by Zack Williams. I dare you to stay still while you listen to it. LOL
Music brings us joy and lifts our spirits. Sometimes, when you're feeling down, you just need to get up and sing and dance like no one is watching.

This is definitely one of my favorites. Classic. It's been sung by so many folks & I think every one of them does a good job on account of how it's such a good song.

This is another one I like a lot.

You've got a real gift. I'm sorry you've had health issues, such a young girl to have them. Are the friends who sang this song the same as the ones who sang those other songs you wrote? I recall you sharing before, about some song that got onto TV shows or something.

Thank you. :) I wrote the song when I was feeling embittered due to the circumstances I felt unfairly thrust in, but when I listen to it now I feel a swell of gratitude because I understand how God's purpose. Since this relates to another current thread, I'll expand a bit. :)

The previous spring I was unable to attend an international dance competition I'd devoted myself to training for due to having shingles at an exceptionally young age. I am immunocompromised due to having chickenpox-induced sepsis as an infant (when I was too young to have been vaccinated) that destroyed my adrenal and thyroid glands and required that I have part of my stomach removed. The same virus that had caused chickenpox caused shingles, which was torturous. It was one of the most excruciating experiences I ever endured, both physically and emotionally. I technically could have still gone to compete, but since shingles are contagious, that would have been morally wrong. At the time I wrote the song several months later I only had a minor cold, but was fearful I'd get the measles. This was during the Disneyland measles outbreak that spread throughout Southern California, and a little girl at my dance studio who was deliberately unvaccinated (for which her family later profusely apologized for) was diagnosed with it. It meant that everyone at her school and the dance studio, and everywhere else she'd been had potentially been exposed. Measles is very difficult to contain because people with it are contagious before they are symptomatic, so when she'd been at the dance studio she and everyone else was oblivious that she already had it. The measles are extraordinarily contagious, and can remain in a room even after the person has vacated it. So, even though I'd never had face-to-face interaction with her, there'd been a concern since I'd danced in the room immediately after her. I've received the MMR vaccine, but since I'm immunocompromised, there was a much stronger risk that it wouldn't be as efficacious, so the county health department had asked that I self-quarantine as a precaution. This meant that I had to miss out on the regional qualifiers for the same dance competition I'd had to miss the year prior. I was devastated. Again, I technically could have gone since I felt well enough, but then had I contracted the measles I would have been responsible for exposing people and causing the sort of expansive concern (and expense) currently imposed due to someone with mumps attending a cheerleading competition.

I ended up never contracting the measles - praise the Lord for that vaccine protecting me!!! - but still missed out on special moments of my life during the quarantine. But, the silver lining is that it was one of the most prolific times for my art and songwriting. That's when I wrote this song and several others. And it's paid off, spiritually, as well as in the most literal sense. My friends are professional musicians and primarily make their living licensing their music to movies, TV shows, and commercials. They're paid a sweet amount for each second of the song that it used, and I get a sweet percentage. And it's a way of weaving in faith-based music to popular shows like This is Us. One of my other songs was used for a promotion last year and now this one has been licensed!!!!! It was also used in a German car commercial last year, ha. It's really cool being able to stand back and see how God has pieced together a plan that had previously puzzled and distressed you. And I'm reminded of that every time I listen to that song. :)

One of the friends I referenced in my previous posts who is a professional musician recorded the song with our church band several years ago. I don't think it's available online, so I uploaded it here:
Vocaroo | Voice message

The actual song starts about 30 seconds in. I'm not sure who is speaking at the beginning of the recording. I hope you enjoy the song!!!! :)

BLUE:
Kari Jobe - Love Came Down (Lyrics)
If my heart is overwhelmed
And I cannot hear your voice
I hold on to what is true
Though I cannot see

If the storms of life they come
And the road ahead gets steep
I will lift these hands in faith
I will believe

I'll remind myself
Of all that you've done
And the life I have
Because of your son

Love came down and rescued me
Love came down and set me free
I am yours
Lord I'm forever yours
Mountains high or valley low
I sing out and remind my soul
I am yours
I am forever yours

When my heart is filled with hope
Every promise comes my way
When I feel your hands of grace
Rest upon me

Staying desperate for you, god
Staying humble at your feet
I will lift these hands in praise
I will believe

I'll remind myself
Of all that you've done
And the life I have
Because of your son

Love came down and rescued me
Love came down and set me free
I am yours
I am forever yours
Mountains high or valley low
I sing out and remind my soul
I am yours
I am forever yours

I am yours
I am yours
All my days
Jesus, I am yours

I am yours
I am yours
All my days
Jesus, I am yours

Love came down and rescued me
Love came down and set me free
I am yours
I am forever your's
Mountains high or valley low
I sing out and remind my soul
I am yours
I am forever yours

Love came down and rescued me
Love came down and set me free
I am yours
I am forever yours
Mountains high or valley low
I sing out and remind my soul
I am yours
I am forever yours

Yeah, I am yours, I'm yours, I am yours
Jesus I am yours

This is such a lovely and comforting song. I'd never heard it before, and immediately my ears and my heart were in love. Thank you for sharing it. I just ran a charity 5K on Saturday and the LA Marathon on Sunday, and I have finals for the winter quarter this week. I'm physically and mentally sore, and this song is spiritually rejuvenating.

In 2008 students from my college who were on a study abroad program in Cape Town, South Africa learned a song from locals that had traditionally been sung by Christians at funerals to celebrate the life of the deceased and their transition into the next life. Its lyrics translate, “The gates of heaven are open, we are crossing the river Jordan.” The song began to be performed in other contexts to give hopefulness and joy, encourage perseverance, and express gratitude, especially during times of tribulations. When the students returned to campus they taught the song to their a cappella group, and it was love at first listen. It became their signature song. Every year since it's been featured in their concerts, and they've traveled around the world performing it. Since our college isn't Christian, it's lovely to me that a Christian praise song is given such prominence!

They even did a flash performance on a NYC subway while in the city to perform.

Last summer I went to South Africa to volunteer with a Christian medical organization teaching public health issues, and learned the song to sing it as an ice breaker, and came up with a little dance for it. When my dad, stepmom, and sister went back to South Africa to help during a measles outbreak last fall, my sister and friend taught the dance to the team of doctors for them to perform it, haha.
