Yes, maybe, or maybe it's to show people that they can't put their faith in politicians because that's what many have done with Obama, but he's not their Messiah, he's not a saviour of any kind, he's just a politician.....

Yes, just like Bush, Palin, Clinton, Biden, McCain, and all the rest. There is not an infallible one in the bunch!

A Prayer

Psalm 5

"Give ear to my words, O Lord, Consider my groaning. Heed the sound of my cry for help, my King and my God, For to You I pray. In the morning, O Lord, You will hear my voice; In the morning I will order my prayer to You and eagerly watch. For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness; No evil dwells with You. The boastful shall not stand before Your eyes; You hate all who do iniquity. You destroy those who speak falsehood; The Lord abhors the man of bloodshed and deceit. But as for me, by Your abundant lovingkindness I will enter Your house, At Your holy temple I will bow in reverence for You. O Lord, lead me in Your righteousness because of my foes; Make Your way straight before me. There is nothing reliable in what they say; Their inward part is destruction itself. Their throat is an open grave; They flatter with their tongue. Hold them guilty, O God; By their own devices let them fall! In the multitude of their transgressions thrust them out, For they are rebellious against You. But let all who take refuge in You be glad, Let them ever sing for joy; And may You shelter them, That those who love Your name may exult in You. For it is You who blesses the righteous man, O Lord, You surround him with favor as with a shield." (Psalm 5, NASB95)

Yes, to these last few posts! Though we all know that it is good when governments enact good laws and form righteous policies, believers can't forget that prayer that moves people deep inside can do much more than a government to change a nation. For God does it directly. (And, of course, prayer can move people in government to do good things.) A few minutes before I read your posts, I was struck by this quotation around the time of the Welsh revival of 1904-05:

"The mighty and unseen breath of the Spirit was doing in a month more than centuries of legislation could accomplish" the pastor of Saint John's-Wood Presbyterian Church declared on Sunday, January 1st, 1905 according to the London Times. The Welsh revival "had a great effect" in healing spiritual carelessness among Christians and "the growing bitterness which has accentuated our unhappy divisions", the Bishop of Bangor declared on January 2nd, 1905. He called "congregations to meet together often for united prayer."
(Oliver P. Price)

And note this:
The Times observed that "The whole population had been suddenly stirred by a common impulse. Religion had become the absorbing interest of their lives. They had gathered at crowded services for six and eight hours at a time. Political meetings and even football matches were postponed...quarrels between trade-union workmen and non-unionists had been made up... At Glyn-Neath a feud had existed for the past 10 or 12 years between the two Independent chapels, but during the past week united services have been held in both chapels, and the ministers have shaken hands before the congregations."
(P. Fredrick Fogle, Ph.D. Published by Union Gospel Press
Gospel Herald and Sunday School Times Spring Quarter 1996 Vol 14 Number 2)

The "flip side" of this is~when the "blessed Christian" candidate wins an election, is that the sign of God's approval, or are we just kidding ourselves..?

As believers, we are seated with Christ in heavenly places, far above any political party. We have God's Spirit within us. We are one in the love of Christ. As Paul told Timothy one of our important tasks per governmental things and all things is to pray:

1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:1-4)

I believe that if Holy Spirit led prayer will be our first priority in relation to the government of whatever country we may live in, we will see a better result than if we let ourselves become embroiled in political bitterness. This does not mean we will not be discerning but rather that our hearts will be pure with a listening ear to the Spirit.

If we study what was happening among praying believers in the days of the old Soviet Union and the Iron Curtain, believers inside and outside that caldron of atheism, we will find this among many other things: The Berlin wall was not really torn down by the hands and machines of men and women. It was torn down by prayer in the authority of the Name of Jesus.

All of this is not to say that we should no have political opinions and so forth. It is to say that as we are citizens of heaven first and citizens of earthly kingdoms second, our calling is to bring changes in the earth through prayer and action as led by the Holy Spirit.

Whatever we may think of the new administration in the U.S. our duty as believers is to pray for it and for this nation and all nations as led by the Holy Spirit.

As christians of course, it is our duty to pray and listen to the Lord for his will to be done not ours.....I also read God's word and as Christians it is our duty to protect the those that cannot protect themselves, the ones who apparently aren't significant enough to have any rights at all..the unborn. Animals have more rights in this country than the unborn. As long as this is a free country and I have a voice I will protect the weak and innocent. Amen?

Good posts, DonKeesee and LovebirdsFlying. The way I see it, Democrats and Republicans both support questionable agendas, making them run neck-and-neck when it comes to morals, only in different ways. So yes, they ALL deserve our prayers.
I see it as some need alot more prayer than others
^_^

Well as people lose more & more rights daily, thankfully we can
PRAY privately
But if people in power open the doors legally to abortion & make
it easier for them to be performed, I don't see what all you can do to protect the weak & innocent.

Sounds like a nice theory - but pro abortionists rule the day right now -
& proby the best prayers spent on these politicians would be for their
Salvations.

Then did God fail?

Rom 13:1 –Rom 13:2 NKJV
Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.
Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.

Just because BO isn't "the" guy we think should be the ruling, nonetheless he is there by God's appointment, not ours...may well be for some kind of judgment, who knows?

You are right we should pray for our leaders we are not asking for them to be blessed necessarily but that God will lead them to do his will, that God will speak to their heart. There are many ways to pray for leaders without asking God to bless them. We are told to pray for our leaders
