Hi there, I recently bought myself a new KJV bible and I have a few questions about it that I couldn't find anywhere on the internet when trying to search for answers.

First of all, could someone tell me what the following image means? I'd like to think it symbollically represents Jesus' crown of thorns, though I feel I could be wrong. A part of me fears that it might be a pagan symbol or something (which I hope is not the case). Here it is:

bZWStgc.jpg

Secondly, I notice that all the names of people and places in this bible have syllable dashes or something which I find somewhat annoying and cumbersome to read, for example: Je-sus, Da-vid, Is-ra-el, A-dam, E-den, Ish-ma-el, so on and so forth. It's repeated continuously throughout it. This may be a dumb question, but what do you call that? I've found no information regarding other bibles printed in this manner, although I assume it's to help with pronunciation.

Thanks for your help!

Is that image in your Bible? Who is the publisher of the Bible and where did you get it? Thanks.

Yes, it's on the cover. Holman is the publisher, I got it at a local Christian bookstore.

Holman should be tip top on the respected publishing scale. TBH I tried looking up the symbol and could not find the meaning.

That's a very good question. Who puts an image like that on a Bible and says nothing about it?

As for the dashes, I think those are just meant to help you pronounce the names- but it could be that it's instead marking out the syllables for whatever reason.

I don't like it, I would bet it has some symbolism attached to it.

The New King James has a Celtic knot on the cover.
Some say it is a trinity knot some say it is Pagan.
It may add some copy write to their version along with the syllables.
That's a good point. Maybe the copyright page shows the symbol as well.

Twelve points on the inside and outside and six in the middle: what kind of symbolism could we have there?

Something Satanic, I fear. That was my first guess. It was the only bible I could find that didn't have super-thin pages that bleed through to the other side which strains my eyes. This symbol makes me feel somewhat violated... :help:

There are many symbols out There, but for Christians there is one.
Two actually. The cross and the fish.

There is also a third, but it was of the ancient Messianic Jewish community, and was a combo of the fish, Star of David and the Menorah.

Here it is:

The image is sacred geometry, probably related to the Kabbala, it resembles the tree of life. If your having trouble getting the meaning of it it's probably because you haven't been initiated into some mystical order, and therefore your not enlightened. I like the art of mystics but for me it's like meat sacrificed to idols, I can enjoy it as long as I don't ask a lot of questions about what it all means.

Grace and peace,
Mark

Can someone give me some advice? Should I keep this bible or get rid of it and find another one? Other than the syllables and cover it's a regular KJV bible.
Look it's just some art, don't make a big deal out of it. Someone liked it and thought it gave the cover some dignity, it's common for this kind of art to be shared between faiths.

If it makes you uncomfortable cover it if you can. I also don't know why any Bible needs anything on the cover in the way of symbols and if the publishers insist on putting symbols on, then they should explain what they are.I myself would not like it either.

Well the syllables must be a distraction, and the symbol is out of sorts.
I would exchange it for another one.
You want to be comfortable with the Bible you study from, it's like anything else that is not a good fit for you.
If by chance you do find out what the symbol is give us a update.

Now faith,
You are right, I had suggested it could be covered, but hang on why should you have to do that? I agree that you should return it and also tell them why.
Olamram
As I said there should not be any of these sort of symbols on the Bible. I use a King James Bible and all it has on it is "Holy Bible" it is from Cambridge Press who are one of the oldest publishers of the Bible. Also the Trinitarian Bible Society have their Bibles at really good prices and are worldwide.
I think you are wise to be discerning as you have been. (or should I say wise to heed the Holy Spirit leading you). Do keep us up to date.
God Bless You

I myself do appreciate the KJV, anyway.
