I am gaining weight not because I overeat, but because what I eat. I love my junk foods and my pizzas and my mountain dews. But I don't overeat. I eat three meals a day. I just don't eat vegetables or fruits. Is that wrong

Sometimes the issue isn't right vs. wrong. Often it is just healthy vs. unhealthy.

It isn't a sin to eat unhealthily, but unhealthy choices have their own set of consequences.

I find no fault in ones decision to eat them selves into health issues, or starve themselves into the same issues. You have free will to live the life you want to live. You are free to decide to suffer through the pain of health issues, or live a healthy and active lifestyle. What is right for you may not be for me.

Decide how you want to live, and be happy with the consequences of your choice...be they "good or bad."

Yes its wrong And you know it. Your high fat, high sugar, high salt diet is unhealthy leading you to obesity and the pathologies that go with it. Obesity is the number one disease resulting in more mortality and morbidity that any other health issue. Statistically obese parents raise obese children who turn into obese adults. Obesity consumes more of the health care dollar than any other condition.

Your free to choose.... but this is what youre choosing

If you want to be healthy, it is already hard enough in today's world to do so,
without doing what we know hurts us.

It does not take any will power though to change - only knowledge of the truth, and making the choice. Then it is easy, just as keeping the commandments is easy ("Not Burdensome" as Jesus Says).

Yes, it really is easy after making a choice to do what is right.

FALLING IS EASY TOO! oh my so easy to fall. So a faithful friend helps a lot.

Let Jesus be the faithful friend.

Don't let things tempt you more than they do . i.e. don't buy things that are not good for you - then you won't have them to eat or to use.

If anyone including my brother bought a soda to me at home or out somewhere, the first thing I do is throw it away/ pour it out. Tada ! Can't drink it then and hurt myself with it.

See? Don't bring into your own home things that hurt you. Just like bringing bad company home, bringing harmful things home is not wise, and always leads to being hurt.

A passage that could perhaps relate, though not directly, is I Corinthians 6:

19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

The direct context relates to sexual immorality. The general principle however is that your life is not just your own. Christ died for you, including your body. Taking care of ourselves means we can serve Him better.

I have to agree with everyone. I personally eat to avoid potential long-term health risks (diseases, heart/blood pressure conditions, organ failure, diabetes, obesity, dementia, etc) down the road, God-willing that I live to a ripe old age. I also eat to be physically strong and healthy. Doesn't mean you have to deprive yourself but I mostly eat 'well' and try to be active.

What are you feeding on, which makes you feel ok with eating what is not good for you?????

God will satisfy us with what is good.

Among other things, if you want to be a good example for your children, in the future, now is the time to grow strong in love's self control. Self control is one of the "fruits" of the Holy Spirit. It is part of the fruit of love. But self control of love is for much more than controlling what we eat and how we get pleasure. We need God's self control for relating so we can connect well with the right people, including for marriage.

So, I can see that the focus of self control is not only for managing certain physical things in our lives. And we grow in God's love so we grow in His self control, not only ego's way of controlling ourselves in order to avoid problems. We need to do what we do in order to please God.

Thank you very much for your bluntness. I needed that. Yeah, I don't want to choose that anymore.

It's not what you eat, it's how much of it you eat. Believe it or not, you can have a perfectly healthy diet eating nothing but McD's. All weight is is your body storing surplus energy for the winter, except you aren't losing that weight over winter.

If you want to stay healthy, avoid trans fats at all costs and try to cut down on saturated fats (animal-based fat). Your sodium intake isn't a problem unless you have high blood pressure already. Make sure you get enough protein, and enough of all of your essential amino acids. If you eat meat, that shouldn't be a problem. Try to avoid simple sugars (basically anything sweet) in favor of complex carbohydrates like bread or potatoes. Make sure you DO EAT FATS, because they are absolutely necessary. Take a Flinstones chewable (twice the child dose), and eat your fruits and leafy greens, and never drink fruit juice. Also get some exercise. Avoid alcohol in excess, but a beer or glass of wine a day is really not bad for you. Even Jesus drank wine, after all.

If you are gaining fat (around your gut) and not muscle (around your shoulders or quads), then you are most definitely overeating. What you eat does not matter in gaining weight, only calories. What you eat affects your health and how you feel, and people who feel bad tend to eat more, but if calories are equal what you eat doesn't have much effect on your weight.

Thats is not sound advice in regards to junk food. The issue is that junk food is energy dense. Indeed the general trend is that the higher the degree of processed food, the more energy dense they usually are. But obvious foods like soft drink and burgers are high in sugar, salt and fat. There is an enormous research base linking obesity to junk foods so it would be advisable the OP shifts from that diet as it is well acknowledged as being unhealthy. Instead he should shift to a fresh food diet.

To the OP - The answer isnt complex. Start with throwing out what you know to be junk foods - they are high in sugar and youre never going to use the calories so they will simply be stored as fat.

Next just eat normal portions and choose fresh foods with good proportions of fruit and vegetable. DONT snack. Three meals a day and no more. reduce high starch foods as they once again are energy dense.

lastly exercise - set yourself up to be a winner and just do what you know you will be achieved - maybe thats just walking around the block quickly. HOWEVER once you can easily achieve you have to up the level and exercise for longer or more strenuously.

please take note of the abundance evidence available in your country. The USA has one of the highest obesity rates in the world. learn from the mistakes made by others and choose not to go down their path.

One last thing. Consuming high-fat foods contributes to atherosclerosis - thats where fat deposits line blood vessels. If you continue having a high fat diet, not only is obesity a problem, but you're at higher risk of heart disease and stroke. Salt in your diet is fine but a junk food diet is way to high a salt intake. It greatly increases your risks associated with stroke and heart attack when coupled with atherosclerosis.

So easy - a little exercise - fresh foods - NO SODA - normal portions. You'll get there :)

Work in fruits and vegetables. Replace the sweets with fruits. Replace the Dew with unsweetened tea if you really need caffeine. Drink a lot of water. Recognize that these are only the most basic of steps, and make more food substitutions when you are ready. The good news is, steak is much better for you than processed meats, so you now have a justification for eating more steak.

It's not a matter of right or wrong, but is it wise to do that, to subject yourself to the point where it manifests into something unfruitful and deadly? If you are inclined to binge like that, then its best to take the needed steps to examine yourself, why you are inclined to it, what changes need to be made, and execute them.

But that's up to you, whether or not you prepared the right mindset and heart to actually see that through. Its one thing to know its wrong, and another to willfully do it anyways. You're not alone, everyone struggles with it one way or another. You can overcome.

Soda is my favorite drink......Always have it in the house.....drink at least one can a day. Im sure also, that I eat more junk than the OP as well. Always have it in the house. Sometimes I get a feeling that maybe i should lay off the soda for a while......when i do, I drink water that day for dinner.......in a few days, im back to the soda.

Thing is...I struggle to get to the middle of the normal range of my BMI scale......being at the low end of normal all my life. Use to drink ensure plus to try and get an extra 10 lbs....intake more calories even talk to Doctors......who all felt i was crazy to want to gain more weight.

So I just became content with my size and started to live. The thing is....what you eat may not be the end all be all for everyone......ones metabolism and exercise frequency may have more to do with it. Also, what you think is more important than we know......if you have attitude that "eating this will make me fat" it most likely will........Which would also explain why I was not able to gain when i cared about gaining......I believed(not just thought) that no matter what or how much i ate.....I would not be able to gain weight....

Thats not how it is for the population. If youre slim and have an enormous caloric intake, then thats an exception. Please lets not advise the OP based on exceptions to the rule and instead based on how it is for 99% of the population

Just saying that exercising more, may be easier than hiding from food. And showing that there are examples of people who dont hide from food yet cant get obese. But the most important thing i said concerned our thoughts about food in relation to our weight.....life and death is in the power of the tongue..... and this is true and it affects us whether we know about it or not. I wanted to gain weight....but my own thoughts about food in relation to my weight gain stopped me from doing so.... What a man thinketh....so is He. We can ignore it.....but it cannot ignore us.
