This is good advice. I go to Church on Wednesday and Sunday but its been a bit spotty because I have an extremely out of sync sleep schedule/circadian rhythms. I've gone to some of these people in the past but really I'm not in contact with them on a regular basis. They've given me advice but I'm not sure its correct. However most people that I was close with at the Church don't work there anymore. We have a new Pastor and assistant Pastor and its a huge southern mega church with thousands of people.
You may need to find a smaller church with a recovery program. One that assigns a sponsor or mentor to keep tabs on you.

I posted a topic asking if I was saved and they told me I was, but I don't think so. Can a good tree bear bad fruit and all that. I want to be a new person, I truly do and have been trying for 14 years. How to I become born again? How do I become a new person. Saying a prayer hasn't worked. Saying a million prayers haven't worked. Maybe my heart isn't right but I don't know how to get it right. I want to be cleansed of my sin; I want to be a moral person. I want a God to talk to and to guide my life and give me direction. I want to serve this God. How do I become a new person? How do I become born again? I am willing but have been unable to do so.

This is an excerpt from a recent post on my blog titled: To be or not to be - Born Again
'Ask God, and keep asking until you receive (Luke 11:9-13) – the understanding of the need to repent, and what you must be repentant of. Ask God to reveal Himself – that will bring you into His new life – to be born again. In your asking, do not cease to read the bible, pray and do all that you know to live right in God’s eyes. Do not give up and you will receive what you ask – I guarantee it! Amen! 2 Chron 16:9a Matt 6:33'

Just saw this post of yours.

No man can crucify himself. It's physically impossible to do and its spiritually impossible, also. But living a crucified life (Ga. 2:20; 5:24), dying to Self, which is the source of all our sin, is the only way to be free of sin. God knew this and so, through Christ, He made a way for you to be free of the power of sin. When Christ died on the cross over 2000 years ago, every genuine believer died there with him. Paul the apostle explained this to the Roman Christians:

Romans 6:1-7
1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?
2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?
3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?
4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection,
6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.
7 For he who has died has been freed from sin.

The blood of Christ cleanses us from the stain of sin, but it is the Cross of Christ that frees us from the source of our sin which is our "old man." As you live in the truth of this accomplished fact, as you reckon yourself to be dead indeed unto sin (Ro. 6:11), it is only then that you will begin to experience the truth of your co-crucifixion with Christ in your life. But as you do, sin will become the exception rather than the rule in your life.

Romans 6:17-18
17 But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.
18 And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.

I don't know if I understand this correctly so I'll ask. I am to consider myself dead to sin and a new person in Christ and I should live by faith and ask God to sanctify me. Basically allow him to cleanse me of my sin and take root in my life. I don't know if I got that right but does it approximate to what you're saying?

I read your article and it points out a problem which makes it hard for me to know if I was saved. When I received God as a child my life did unequivocally change in a way that effects me even today. I have no idea how much more immoral and evil my life would have been without belief in and an allegiance to God. I remember a time when the spirit of God coursed though me as I praised him in church. I loved Jesus with my heart, and I loved people too. I read the Bible excitedly. I did sin but when I did it felt like something inside of me was horribly grieved and I asked forgiveness and that was rectified. What I lack right now is any sensitivity to the spirit of God. I used to walk by faith and have communion with the Holy Spirit. What this feels like is a 14 year fall from grace. But it says in the Bible that those who are Gods children do not make a practice of sinning, so I have no idea. Believe me when I say, I do ask.

Trusting Him, first, will go a long way toward fixing that.

Jesus said,
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened." Matthew 7:7-8

For all of the other things on you to-do list, He said,
Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

“So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
" Matthew 6:25-34

Perhaps the problem is that I don't have faith that he'll answer me. However its hard to have faith in something with a bad track record.

I have a relative about the same age as you who feels like he has the same obstacles. People appreciate it when you are trying and you don't have to be perfect at everything. You sound like a nice young man. Don't give up on yourself. Be your own best friend and trust that God is your best friend too. May God bless you.

I got this when I last replied to you. I believe you have the Spirit of God in you, thus why you have this inner war going on. I asked you to concentrate on praising Him. I did this for a reason! I believe that there is much confusion and clutter around you - and working in you - and what is the prescription - so to speak is to praise Him. I will give you the link to what I have learned about praise from my blog Power of Praise.
You said you gave it a shot, and conceded that you cant do it. I would say to this; do you want to get out of the pit you are in? If you cant think of words of praise and what to give thanks for, then recite some Psalms. once you start putting your mind on the center of all things - God, you will begin to see more and more the things He is worthy of praise for. Remember, this is a spiritual battle...Did you ever watch Lord of the Rings? I liken it to the scene of the King who is clearly under a spell: link is here.
This is how the enemy works, he lulls us and puts us under a lie - praise is the power for your release. Be persistent. Hum to Him even, to start. Say things like, I love you Lord! You are my Father! I am your child! You created all things! All things are subject to you! You are the Alpha and the Omega! You are Almighty God! Go to Revelation and recite what was spoken in praise and worship to Him.
Like I said before, keep it up. No matter how you feel. Read Psalms. Ask God to give you understanding of who He is. Do it as much as you can. if you can't speak it, sing it or hum it....think of praises to Him. Consider it a discipline - praise bootcamp. Before you lift your leg out of bed, give God thanks for the day you get to breath, live and learn more about Him. Before you shut your eyes to sleep at night, thank Him and give Him praise for all who He is. I think you get the idea. I have done this and do it. I believe it to be an amazing thing in many ways. I love Him so much, and sing songs to Him - and it is like medicine to my soul. I have peace and contentment and clarity of mind. Im praying for you.

If you are a born-again child of God, you have been - past tense - crucified with Christ. Paul doesn't explain exactly how this spiritual co-crucifixion with Christ took place but he is very clear that it did for every true child of God. When you are tempted to sin, count on the fact of your being dead sin and alive unto God through Christ. Whether it seems like you are or not, whether you feel like you are or not, you ARE dead to sin. And the more you stand by faith on this truth, the more you will experience it in your life. This is what it means to "walk by faith."

Perhaps more important than reckoning yourself to be dead to sin and alive unto God is the matter of surrender to God. A life that is not submitted to Him is a life cut-off from His transforming power. God will not force us to change; we must consciously and often yield ourselves to Him and let Him change us. (Romans 12:1; Romans 6:13; James 4:7; 1 Peter 5:6)

Ask self ,
What was lost to the child of ten? Was it joy? Now ask what, who stole that joy? Was it knowledge, a person we love more than God (self included). Remember when knowledge did not predict the Spirits joy in the 10 year old boy?

Society will effect those that conform for society tries to shape the human clay. If a mind (you sir) is unique in its label yet asks normies in advise, is this not an attempt to conform? Someone has taught you (self included) our/my way is the right way.

One must re obtain that joy lost labeled "coming back to God".

God never left yet self took the reigns and has not let go.

Do know this is given in meekness this format does not express as it will come out in how "you" feel when reading it.

Self needs love and expects it in asking for things of God or proof of presents. Hope this edifies.

FanthatSpark: I really appreciate the careful and encouraging tone you've adopted with the OP. You might want to consider, though, the following verses in light of your somewhat anti-knowledge comments that you made to him:

Romans 10:2-3
2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.
3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

1 Timothy 2:3-4
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

Psalms 119:65-66
65 You have dealt well with Your servant, O Lord, according to Your word.
66 Teach me good judgment and knowledge, For I believe Your commandments.

Proverbs 1:27-29
27 When your terror comes like a storm, And your destruction comes like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you.
28 "Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me.
29 Because they hated knowledge And did not choose the fear of the Lord

I've gotten angry at God a few times, even screamed at Him and blamed things on Him on angry prayer (though i shouldn't have). I had an infernal desease that He would not take away, and it was hell over and over again. Until He did :)

Now im fine, thank God (literally).

But if you are upset with God, tell Him respectfully. Know that He is God and your Father.

"Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!" - Isaiah 49:15 (NIV)

Ask, believe you will receive and wait (also, chill out. It's not good to be anxious). Thats the "formula" ;)

Saint Monica, mother of the famous theologian Saint Augustine, prayed that her son would convert for 15 years. That's a lot of time, but she saw her kid in the right path after all.

Also, know that all things have a purpose below heaven, and that God know all things and His timing is perfect.

For example, imagine if you got a girlfriend right know. You are in college and live with your parents, you would not have so much quality time with her. And, what if the girl who God has chosen isn't ready yet? Have you considered that? God has His time perfect, don't worry.

Mathew 7:7-8

James 1:6-7

Matthew 18:19; Matthew 21:22; Mark 11:24; John 14:13; John 15:7; John 15:16; John 16:23–24; James 1:5–6; James 1:17; 1 John 3:22; 1 John 5:14–15

Read the book of Job, too. It's more about tragedies (i.e "my whole family died in an car accident, God has abandoned me!" "i am now homeless, where is God?") but it shows that He is still hearing us and preparing good things even when we think He is doing nothing.

Keep on going, and be grateful about what you have. Complaining is a sin (The Sin of Complaining). I used to complain a lot, that was like poison to the soul. Now i am greatful, am am much more happier about my life, even though it hasn't changed.

God will change your life the way He pleases, which is the best way possible. Ask, beliege and wait. That's it.

May God bless you :)

Thank you. Would you consider this? --> Autism seeks knowledge as it is a symptom of Asperger . How knowledge is translated from a 10 year old boy to the present time has caused OP manifestation as whole chapters of verse are consumed in one session. There can be a verse lost in applying one verse to self in a stand still mode and pray upon that one verse in how it applies in selves life in past present and future as knowledge can make us read the bible from outside looking in, termed quantity over quality.. Zeal is a good term for knowledge acquisition too as the freshly saved usually go through the bible in massive chunks.

Here is the flaw ... for me. Knowledge is not Spirit. Knowledge of love is 1-John 4:8. In old testament the light has not walken the earth yet, so this time frame has no inkling of the comforter. For some, this fact is not taught to them and they implement terms like fear as literal. That is knowledge... alone. This can cause anger and/or a snapping of the mind.

In reading OP, some of what was said resignates in child led astray to take sin as first love (or in other words snapped mind) after baptism. No one told the child to sequester with God and no man to be shaped in the clay. To the child a parent is God and they shape the child as they were shaped under their definition of love. Sincere ignorance is no ones fault if we step back and analyze it for a moment.

For me, it became apparent on self analyzation that my mind was caught in judgment vs forgiveness and this caused my rebellion. One can not operate in this duality of being or we get the OP and various other posts site wide. However, the author see's his joy is lost (as mine was in chasing knowledge) and it stems from above duality at war inside self.

We can discuss our translations of verses under knowledge alone until we are blue in the face yet knowledge of love... is universal... and assumed that OP knows the baptism.

Duality defined.
John 5:39-40 -vs- Proverbs 1:27-29 .
Romans 10:2-3 -vs- Romans 3:10
Psalms 119: 65-66 <-- Task of flesh -vs- Want of being -> Matthew 22:36-40 . This one needs unpacking of a consider this... psalm does not know the baptism but Jesus knows the release of the comforter is upcoming.
End of Duality defined.

1 Timothy 2:3-4. The gist  . Who teaches us? A person, church or God? For me, people and church snapped my mind for 30 years in taking sin as my first love. Is it their fault, heavens no it was Gods letting me see a life without him in it for I listen to people firstly. Not understood was no man can teach Spirit but we try anyways in our pride. Spirit is between God, prayer & scripture applied to self as you well know .

Thanks for letting me talk to myself.

So, I'm trying to follow God once again and I have been (unsuccessfully) for a while. I'm trying to turn from my sin, I'm reading the Bible even though I'm not that into it, and I'm trying to pray to God. Regarding that last one I have hit a snag. I have a lot of problems. I'm 24, have aspergers syndrome, live with my parents, don't have a job (I can't get a full time job because my mother put me on disability when I was in high school), don't have a drivers license. I have no friends (not that I'd want one because I generally can't stand people) except my family which is why I'd never move out by myself even if given the opportunity, I have been separated from God for 14 years though I've tried vociferously to get back to him. I have a degree in Criminal Justice and I'm getting another degree in paralegal, so I'm not a complete failure. And all of this poses a problem because I want something basic in my life that as the years pass it looks like I'll never have. I want a wife and children, a car, a house, a job, children, and to live a moral life. I desire strongly to have a girlfriend right now, a companion to make life more livable and have since I was old enough to like girls. I have lived a past in high school where I was treated like garbage by everyone; and I live in a family where my borderline personality suffering mother sometimes abuses alcohol and my father who (also has aspergers) sometimes gets angry enough to lay hands upon her.

What I'm saying is that I have a lot of problems and I have brought all of them to God many times over the course of many years and he has not dealt with a single one of them. I have absolutely no power over my life. I cannot get a full time job myself, I cannot attract woman on my own, I cannot make my insane parents sane. I have been robbed of everything that makes a man a man, and whats more I have no real relationship with God. I pray and pray to God and he says and does absolutely nothing. I ask what he wants me to do to come back to him and he says nothing. So then I demand that he tells me what to do and does nothing. Then I yell and curse and rail against him and he still does nothing. I ask for a girlfriend and future wife and he gives me nothing. I ask he give me guidance on what to do in my life and he says nothing. My God has never competently lifted a finger for my benefit. What times he has intervened in my life has either left me confused or did not solve the problem. I'm trying to follow God again as I've tried many times but my prayer to him today was basically "what is there to talk about? I have many problems that I keep bringing to you and you don't even show any outward signs that you are listening. So if you don't care about my problems, if you will not tell me how to return to you, if you will not help me in following you, there is nothing to talk about." There is literally nothing to talk about with an absentee God.

It seems that you do kept seeking God -- most excellent.
To seek God with all our hearts -- can be a challenge at times.
I pray often -- God please have mercy on me a sinner.
M-Bob
