You're probably right about that, Mark. There's a huge number of adults who are fat, then plenty who'd be DQ'd for other reasons.

What I got from that recruiter was either they can't pass the ASVAB or they can't pass the physical requirements, and he said that was 80%. In High School I was 400 in a class of 408, I remember mentioning. He said having a High School diploma didn't make a difference, I thought that was disturbing.

Yep, that doesn't surprise me one bit. You go to Walmart & see folks who are only in their 20s-40s, riding around in those motorized scooters meant for the disabled & the old. They're too fat to walk around the store.

I'm super glad for the ROTC program at my HS. I'm ROTC at college too. I do believe it helps to set you up with good habits you can use for your life.

Rising obesity rates, an increase in allergies (likely due to environments that are too sanitary), and a LOT more people with crippling illnesses living past the age of four are all going to bring down the percentage of people who qualify.

The solution? Better health initiatives (mandatory high school classes on how to cook would be nice), not being so clean all the time, and maybe infecting people with some parasites in their youth so their immune systems learn the difference between a tapeworm and a peanut. No, I'm not joking about that last one; scientists are actually considering it.

Truthfully, I cannot think of another government that runs smoother or protects the people more or has done more to help poor countries.

Protect the people? How, exactly?
By making it easier to buy semi-automatic weapons then to buy a beer?
By allowing tech companies to rape your privacy?
By running one of the worst education systems in the west?
By turning health care into a luxury product?

Following that logic, then the Soviet Union protected their people a LOT more then the US, considering the percentage of the budget those guys spend on the army...

And the same goes for North Korea.

So, by those criteria, the governments of North Korea and the Soviets, are even "greater" then the US government.

That "logic" didn't really turn out well for your argument, now did it?

Don't know about Game Boy, but I do know that several iterations of EOD remote control vehicles have used Playstation controllers, partly to make training with them easier for the youth of today, and partly (also surprisingly) the militaries in question managed to resist the urge to reinvent the wheel (so to speak) with an ergonomic control unit.

One problem I notice, is folks confusing the country with the government. The U.S. Government is a entity established by the United States, not the other way around. And what the U.S. Government as an entity does or doesn't do, has little bearing on what the United States really is.

Try reading the Preamble to the Constitution, and this all becomes clear....

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

The rest of the Constitution set up the parameters of government and guide map on how we would meet what was stated in the Preamble. We the people establish the government and set forth its parameters.

And as an entity, government does not always follow the will of the people or the principles set forth by the people. And it especially heinous when the government is the one who decides what is constitutional and what isn't, as is the situation we find ourselves in today.

But it is the hole we have dug for ourselves because we were not diligent enough to keep things in check since the war between the states.

It says due to "health, physical appearance, and educational background." I fall into the health category. I am also blind in one eye, partially deaf, and have numerous other health problems. But even if I didn't, I don't think I could be the kind of person to wear a uniform and fight a war. The idea of killing another person, even if that person is going to kill me if I don't is... really daunting and not something I ever want to experience. There is no shame in not wanting to do that.
