White House officials alarmed at Betsy DeVos' '60 Minutes' performance - CNNPolitics

White House officials were alarmed by Education Secretary Betsy DeVos' struggle to answer basic questions about the nation's schools and failure to defend the administration's newly proposed school safety measures during a tour of television interviews Sunday and Monday, according to two sources familiar with their reaction.

Though DeVos was sworn in to her Cabinet position 13 months ago, she stumbled her way through a pointed "60 Minutes" interview with CBS' Lesley Stahl Sunday night and was unable to defend her belief that public schools can perform better when funding is diverted to the expansion of public charter schools and private school vouchers. At one point, she admitted she hasn't "intentionally" visited underperforming schools.

Man...who would have thought someone with no idea how to do that job would be so bad at it? :sorry:

How much do you have to know about something that you fully intend to run into the ground?

Remember that eliminating the Department of Education has always been a Republican goal.

I mean seriously, I don't have to know how to fly a plane if my intention from the beginning is to crash it. That's the case with a good percentage of Trump appointments.

I thought it really difficult to watch until it became evident that Ms. DeVos was unaware of her blatant display of incompetence. (Not sure why the WH was alarmed it appeared quite obvious from the beginning with the confirmation hearings that she was clueless)

Our educational system has been going downhill ever
since the left took over and started using the schools
as indoctrination centers instead of places to learn.

Actually, it's about her competence to do her job.
If the system is broken, then her job is to fix it, not
to tell teachers and administrators what they want
to hear; that everything is great and they're doing
the job. They are failing, and our kids are losing.

Back in my management/leadership days, one of the things I learn is that it takes "profound knowledge" to make effective critical changes in an organizational structure. You have to have profound knowledge of the goals, of the organization, and of the resources. If you don't have the profound knowledge, then you have to enlist the aid (and the buy-in to the changes you want) of those who do have that profound knowledge.

her job (the Unions and teachers both know this) is to destroy the education department. That's why President Trump and his people chose her in the first place.

EDUCATION SECRETARY Betsy DeVos spent two decades defunding and destabilizing public schools in Michigan, and now she wants to spread that same agenda to every town and city in America. How else do you explain the cruel and craven cuts she and President Donald Trump have proposed to funding for after-school and summer programs, child nutrition programs, class-size reduction, community schools and the supports kids need and parents rely on? I am sorry, but I did not know that there was a cabinet level position for person in charge of school lunches. I will admit that this sounds strange, but every country is different, and from the American I have seen this is a good idea.

Who was the cabinet person in charge of lunches before Michelle Obama was given the position? And who did Trump put in his cabinet in charge of school lunches?

So if we can play imaginary world, and pretend that conservatives value personal responsibility from their leaders, and thus that Trump and his cabinet choices are responsible for their actions, and not Barrack and Michelle Obama, do you not think that putting a know nothing like De Vos in charge of education is a good or poor idea?

I particularly like the twitter picture of the lunch of pint of milk and hamburger with "That's all we get to eat today, Thanks Michelle Obama!" While not mentioning that there is a salad bar, but of course the student forgot to mention this in their twitter and that they don't like salads.
