Today while I was working, I heard an older woman teaching a little girl the old rhyme 'Sticks and stones...'. I thought, 'aw...that's nice.'
...until I heard this lady change the ending.
The original rhyme goes along the lines of 'Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me.' Which, according to TheFreeDictionary.com, says that it's "a common childhood chant meaning hurtful words cannot cause any physical pain and thus will be ignored or disregarded."
This lady was teaching the little girl the rhyme THIS way: 'Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will always hurt me!' And she kept repeating 'will ALWAYS hurt me' over and over again.
Like...seriously?!
Am I the only one who sees a problem with this?!
