Obama, Clinton, Biden, Schumer?

In 2006, Democrats were saying ‘build that fence!’

WASHINGTON — As a senator, Barack Obama once offered measured praise for the border control legislation that would become the basis for one of Donald Trump’s first acts as president.

“The bill before us will certainly do some good,” Obama said on the Senate floor in October 2006. He praised the legislation, saying it would provide “better fences and better security along our borders” and would “help stem some of the tide of illegal immigration in this country.”

Obama was talking about the Secure Fence Act of 2006, legislation authorizing a barrier along the southern border passed into law with the support of 26 Democratic senators including party leaders like Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and Chuck Schumer.

If Trump started demanding bans on guns, liberals/democrats would start defending the second amendment. If he went pro-choice, and praised Planned Parenthood, they'd start whining about the unborn. The second Trump decides we need open borders, the Ds will start screaming about building the wall. It's that simple.

I agree 100%!

They are not concerned with issues, their concern is "Control"!

And did they demand another sovereign nation pay for it?

Have you & the folks who starred this been following what's happened this past month? Asking on account of how the Dems were OVER THE MOON when Trump talked about gun control. He talked about taking guns away, without due process. They just knew it was all talk, but boy did they like the talk. It was Republicans were mad as stew about it.

Trump was pro-choice for most of his life. We know that he had extramarital affairs, so...

Trump mocked the wall in 2006.

eta
Friend just told me that SNL's opening skit last week was about Trump talking about gun control, taking the guns away. The lady playing Dianne Feinstein looks like she's about to burst from happiness about it, lol.

They voted for a fence that would cost a fraction of what the wall would & wouldn't be nearly as big. Trump called it a nothing wall then.
The fact is, democrats are now waving the racist, bigotry, human rights, tears of concern?

Does something look hypocritical to you?

No. No they are not. You want it to be so to fit your Fox News Narrative but it isn't the case.

The Secure Fence Act of 2006 (which was pushed by Republicans btw) seems "reasonable". It seems "prudent" which is why it got support by Democrats.

Lets be crystal clear.

The main problem that "most" democrats and moderates like myself have with Donald Trump's Wall is he touts it as an end all be all solution, a simplistic solution, and he also wanted to build THOUSANDS OF MILES WORTH OF WALL!!!

And then, on top of that he claimed he'd make Mexico pay for it.

Can't you see that this is "Different" than the 2006 Secured Fence Act?

Fence does not equal Wall. But more than that, Strategically and Tactically they are different constructs.

The "Fence" was to be built and deployed in strategic areas as part of an overall border patrol effort. That is "reasonable"./

Trump comes along and says, "Hey, we are going to build a couple of thousand of miles worth of wall along the entire border and we are going to get Mexico to pay for it..."

that is unreasonable.

The two are not the same situation.

As I previously stated, the democrats that supported a barrier, now are crying "Racism" to a barrier.

Trump, through his anti-illegal-immigrant rhetoric and policies, including a travel ban aimed at Muslim-majority countries, has made the wall a metaphor to many Democrats of an administration whose crackdown on immigration
they say has overtones of xenophobia or racism.

Read what you just posted, think about it for a minute, and get back to me. Does this in any way say that Democrats are calling the wall itself racist?

And what is your point? Both Democrats and Republicans support effective border control measures.

Democrats supported the Gang of Eight Senate Bill in 2013....but guess who killed that?

The Department of Homeland Security will receive $3 billion to improve border security through surveillance drones and 3,500 additional customs agents; $1.5 billion for fencing.

Within five years, DHS must achieve 100 percent surveillance of the southwest border with Mexico and apprehend 90 percent of people trying to cross illegally in high-risk sectors (areas where more than 30,000 people are apprehended annually).

If DHS does not meet the metrics, a border commission composed of governors and attorneys general from border states would be given five more years and additional funding to implement more stringent measures.

Which liberal/democrat objected when Mr Trump suggested taking guns from people without due process?

Liberals want decent gun control. That's not to much to ask. I personally wouldn't change my mind. If Trump got on board. As for the wall. I'm more bothered over the lies Trump claimed. And wonder is its worth the money. For Americans to pay.

I tend to wonder, hasn't a wall been tried?

Considering the size and effort put into its construction over 2,000 years ago, the failure of the Great Wall of China is rather spectacular. It worked as a manifestation of power that put fear into the hearts of barbarian riders but it didn’t keep any invaders from the north out. (The failure of the Great Wall)
