• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I've been diabetic for almost 2 years now, since a medication gave me pancreatitis. My doctor refuses to give me anything but metformin even though I literally am nauseated for hours after I take it, even on a full stomach. For months, she swore that it was the only thing available.
Last time I saw her, I brought her a list of about 35 other meds that can help, and she was really irritated at me for it. She VERY reluctantly gave me a very small dose of Januvia - and upped my metformin by 100% (500 mg 2xdaily to 1000 mg 2xdaily), even though I told her I can't take it.

But the Jenuvia isn't enough. I can't afford an endocrinologist. I have no insurance. So, I'm learning by trial and error to use insulin injections. I have been going to a clinic with a sliding scale, and I am looking for a different one, maybe with a doctor who listens.

In the meantime, I have figured out that short-acting insulin brings my sugars down about 8-10 points. So I can do that when my sugars are really high. But I'm not sure how to handle the 70/30, which has 70% longer acting insulin.

Any Advice?

Hi
I too am a type 2. Very well controlled just diet. I have some advice, i researched everything myself, lost five stones and my bg is normal and i take no meds.
Firstly obtain the book of Dr Bernstein, 'Diabetes Solutions'. It is the best advice ever on diet which is crucial.
Secondly i adopted the Atkins Diet which works superbly as you cut right down on carbs which are the cause of high blood sugars. Read the book before you adapt diet. Dr Atkins is excellent. I remain totally healthy and i eat well.

Thirdly join online diabetes forums, advice from others is fantastic. Type 2 is controllable. You can be healthy again.

Prayer is always most important of course. I pray for you to find good wayscto control this condition through our Lord Jesus. Enjoy life again instead of struggling. I hope my advice helps. Xx

All medications have side effects, many really bad. Best minimise medicines if you can. Best by far to change your diet and do it naturally. Do things of course with supervision with your doctor. A good doctor, like mine, will be delighted if you propose to change your diet. Most people won't, so they get worse. But you can do it with discipline. Diabetics must stop all sugary destructive foods. No doctor can help us unless we help ourselves.

My doctor has removed me from the diabetic list and i only have an annual check. All bloods are normal. It was tough at first but i remain very disciplined about diet. It is the root cause of most disease.

I can give you advice how to get rid of diabets forever .
First of all you should stop eating sugar .
Giving insulin to person who has problem with insulin resistance is like giving alcohol to addict , yea he might feel better when he drink it but in few hours he will need it again just like you every meal .

Nothing will help you apart from this diet i will list below .
Also i agree with you that Doctors are dorks , she is not perscribing you other drugs because doctors are legal drug sellers , they will sell drugs not best for you but drugs that company tell them to sell because they get % of the sales.

And then you want to watch about that diet . Don't worry i'm doing it myself and i feel great , lost 20kg in 2,5 months and i have no brain fog and i'm full of energy .

I'm not diabetic, but I take care of a Type I, and it was the info from Dr. Bernstein that taught me what I needed to know. He makes everything simple, and taught me the relationship between insulin and blood sugar level and carb intake, and how to deal with long-acting insulin. I'm sure his book is the best way to go, but I got what I needed free just from his web site.

Be careful, it can attack your kidney and make things worse.
I know. My husband has been type 1 diabetic for many years. He has 0 kidney function and has been on peritoneal dialysis for almost 4 years.

For kidney

Also your husband should consume at least 1 lemon a day for kidney.

Tell doc to give you Metformin ER, (extended release), likely to help with the nausea issues.

Novalin NPH has a longer time of action with a smaller peak than novalin -R
The regular insulin gets used up quickly in the body, while the N, NPH version lasts a lot longer in the body.

I recommend Dr Bernsteins 'Diabetes Solutions'. Best book for all diabetics, it changed my life. I am type 2 completely controlled by diet. My doctor is well impressed. I suggest you read it, then work with your doctor. You will be armed with knowledge and able to feel in control.
Also there are good diabetes forums you can join. Great advice there.
