What do you do when the teachers you've trusted to defend you children end up killing one of them?

Because I guarantee you, it will happen.

And what do you do when ten kids died because there was no gun there? "Oh, they were going to die anyway because people don't wan teachers to have guns"? You tell the parents of the 10 dead kids that...

You all got no argument at all, it's an obviously common sense approach that overall, can only help.

Like the teachers who've been caught having sex with their students? Those teachers?

Oh please, I thought were were having a realistic conversation here.

Besides didn't you listen to the part about extreme screening?

No, I'd rather there were less and less people walking into schools, or shopping malls, or movie theaters, or night clubs or concerts and shooting up a bunch of innocent people with high powered rifles that were legally and easily obtained.

So stop it at the expense of taking everyone's gun?

Sure, when the house is burning down the very best solution is always to throw more gasoline on it..

From the "Common sense", files: Florida sheriff has ‘game-changer’ plan to arm teachers and end gun-free school zones

The plan is simple: Arm teachers with concealed weapons and train them to effectively defend students should the need ever arise. The program has already been put into action at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida, which is in Judd’s jurisdiction.

Judd explained that the process to choose which teachers to arm is extremely vigorous ... he only selects teachers with impeccable, crime-free backgrounds. Then, the teachers undergo rigorous training that includes meeting standards beyond those that Florida law enforcement must maintain. In addition, each selected teacher undergoes intense psychological evaluation.

Only after the teachers successfully complete the training are they honored as “special deputy sheriffs” and allowed to carry concealed weapons on campus
.

I wish the article explained how much it costs and how it gets paid for. Sounds like a good spend for a gun tax.

Seriously. Schools are underfunded to the point that teachers buying supplies out of their own pocket is almost a trope. Yet they want to train and arm teachers?

How is something that stops the fire, throwing more gasoline on it?

I'm sure the government will happily provide the over 5 million teachers - more personnel than the US military - with the billions of dollars needed to provide them all adequate training and weaponry to protect the roughly 100,000 schools in the United States.

And I'm also sure that none of those 5 million teachers will never use their weapon improperly or have it stolen by a student and used against them or the student body.

Apologies if this question has already been asked, but who's going to be paying for the guns? The sheriff, or the teachers themselves?

Well that solves the problems. I thought candidates were only going to be screened. But they are going to be extreme screened.

Wait. This is still confusing. What is the difference between being screened and being extreme screened?

And the constant practice to maintain proficiency.

Are teachers expected to do all this without accommodating pay?

Well, after a little comparison shopping, I've found a Smith & Wesson 9mm for $389. Now, that's just for one handgun for one teacher, not even considering the cost of training, background checks, and psychological testing...

S&W SD9 VE™ Std Capacity | Smith & Wesson

Now, a 3-pack of replacement staples for a copy machine (15,000 staples) is $121.80...

Staple Cartridge for Various Models (3-Pack) - 008R12941 - Shop Xerox

...and my school doesn't have it in their budget.

Silly you...this is the era of Trump. The government will pay for it with the record tax earnings from the 5% annual economic growth over the next decade.

Do you have any idea of the extent of violence in schools currently?

National Center for Educational Statistics

From July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014, there were a total of 48 student, staff, and other nonstudent school-associated violent deaths in the United States, which included 26 homicides, 20 suicides, 1 legal intervention death, and 1 undetermined violent death.
Note that this covers a period of time having no mass shootings.
Perfect!! Lets toss some guns in the mix to calm everything down!

Aside from the addition of the word "extreme," what makes this screening different form the state and federal screenings required to get a teaching certificate in the first place?

Teachers are already screen extensively. That doesn't stop them from sexually assaulting their students.

I don't recall the article saying how the program had been implemented at the community college ... but the usual rule is that firearms are paid for and are the property of the person carrying.
