From the files of the "Washington Post": Top U.S. officials tell the world to ignore Trump’s tweets

U.S. lawmakers — both Democrats and Republicans — and top national security officials in the Trump administration offered the same advice publicly and privately, often clashing with Trump’s Twitter stream: the United States remains staunchly committed to its European allies, is furious with the Kremlin about election interference and isn’t contemplating a preemptive strike on North Korea to halt its nuclear program.

But Trump himself engaged in a running counterpoint to the message, taking aim on social media at his own national security adviser, H.R. McMaster, because he “forgot” on Saturday to tell the Munich Security Conference that the results of the 2016 weren’t affected by Russian interference
...
I think we mostly knew this already. Trump has been fighting against Democrats, Republicans and the embedded bureaucracy.

Anyone who wants to read Trump's garbage without adding to his ego can just follow @unfollowtrump and @unfollowvp for the VP's tweets. You'll still see everything they tweet. Then be sure to unfollow the actual president and VP.

Glad that Twitter exists, if only to allow Trump to get his message out unfiltered.

The message he keeps getting out unfiltered is that he's not qualified for the job.

It's very good that smart Republicans are urging the world to ignore his Tweets.

I guess with Trump, stating the outrageous is not the end of the negotiation, but the initial salvo. As a president, he is in a position of power. It is up to people who have contrary interest than that of the American president, or who want access to that power for their own ends, to barter him down from the outrageous.
It is not something that any of us are used to, or have any prior experience with, except maybe snowflake parents who have ceded their power to their two year olds, but it is the position that the world is in right now with Trump. Even if his antics are that of a terrible two, the power of the presidency is real enough.

For their part, most of the world have acted like two year olds in response to his antics. That is not really going to work all that well for them. And to ignore him is to stalemate.
But to deal with him through negotiation would be to have, for example, a DACA deal that is much more liberal than anything that even the Democrats and Obama could have come up with. To deal with him would be for Europe to take responsibility for NATO and empower the forces of freedom in Europe manifoldly better than any deal that leaves it all to the Americans ever could.

Love him or hate him,I think there are Two things we can all agree on

As a man he is disgusting.
As a politician he is ignorant.

We deserve better.

Well I think all Bible-believing Christians SHOULD agree on that, but they don't. I've seen Christians who defend Trump's adultery, the kinkiness with the peeing & allegedly having the inappropriate content star spank him the magazine with himself & Ivanka on the cover, the leering backstage at the beauty pageants. Defend when it's been proven that he's outright lied. Trump has got a star on the Hollywood walk of fame. He's an entertainer & as long as folks are entertained, they'll want to have him keep it up.

I agree.

but, "smart Republicans"?

Are suggesting that those who speak out like McMaster are the "smart ones"? This strategy seems likely to lead to being fired, as it has for so many others.

Preventing the elected leader from getting the word out to his loyal followers. How very American.

I'm surprised that yo didn't capitalize "the Word".

In any case, the tweets are NOT Trump's word, they are the words of FOX and the some of the radio hosts. After the early morning tweets, there are statements made (usually later in the day) that show different "views".

Hypothesis 1: Trump is fighting a valiant effort against a corrupt bureaucracy.
Hypothesis 2: Trump's chaos, inconsistency, and incompetency is threatening long-standing relationships we need with the rest of the world.

Gosh, I wonder.

I wasn't just referring to the Republicans who are in office speaking out. Regular folks who are registered as Republicans speaking out matters too. I think the elected Republicans who speak out when the smarter thing politically may be to keep silent & pucker up their lips to kiss Trump's butt are not just smart in the intellectual sense but brave Americans.
