So there is no scenario where there are no guns in the equation?

Really? Take the guns out of the Florida kid’s hands and exactly how many people do you think he would have killed?
I'm still waiting to find out just how he got weapons in the first place ... given that he was on the radar of local police who had gone to his home dozens of times because of calls about his being violent.

Why were existing laws not sufficient?

I suspect you will discover that in Florida, anyone without a felony record, domestic abuse conviction, or a handful of other exceptions — such as a commitment to a mental institution — can walk into a gun store, wait a few minutes to clear a background check, and walk out with an AR-15 -style rifle, magazines and ammunition.

The Facts That Neither Side Wants To Admit About Gun Control

The National Rifle Association (NRA) would have you believe that guns stop murders. The gun control lobby would have you believe that gun control reduces murders. They are both wrong. Gun bans have always had the same effect once implemented: none. They do not create a (sustained) period of increased murders, nor do they reduce the rate of homicides.
That’s because in the three countries listed guns were never a significant murder weapon!

Good grief, talk about selective abstraction.

In some regards, yes. The whole "kids being shot up in schools and we need more guns to solve it" thing, not so much.

Armed school staff is the only way to solve it.

In the interim, I would support trained security officers in our schools, funded by a tax on gun / ammunition sales.

It's a popular gun, owned by millions of law abiding people.

A few things to consider:
The abundance of assault rifles is not addressed. What is the plan here?

Taxpayers will have to be willing to pick up the tab for liability insurance. Even highly vetted and trained people make mistakes. Last time I checked, bullets do not have eyes.

Law enforcement officers, not being psychic, do not automatically know upon arriving on a scene who is or isn’t armed.

And the highly motivated attacker will simply have to bring more firepower, knowing there are armed staff on the school.

And, will these staff members be reassessed periodically?

I would suppose these staff will have to be deputized and compensated by the taxpayers for their extra duties and responsibilities.

And, using the NRA’s logic: the plan is not perfect and must be rejected on that basis.

I’m still waiting for you to answer the question.
I did. You just didn't like the answer.

Google is your friend though. Perhaps if you invested a little time investigating the issue for yourself, you wouldn't be dependent on me to feed you the answers.

Btw, I'm still waiting for an answer to the question I asked earlier too ... but I'm patient.

I'd rather stay and change it for the better. It still my home, after all.

Seriously? You would rather a teacher be defenseless while his/her kids are being shot to death?

That's NOT a change for the better....so, stay if you must, but please don't make any "better" changes, most of us value the lives of out children more than that.

This is part of what is wrong with the American psyche: equating carrying a gun with being respected.

It has worked pretty well for us... right from the beginning in 1776.

If all we do is arm teachers we will not reduce the numbers overall. The greater the number of guns the greater the number of deaths due to misuse.

A good guy with a gun only works if he/she isn’t taken out by the attacker and doesn’t become or contribute to friendly fire.

I was in a burger joint awhile back and two “open carry” men and their families came in. If I were a violent criminal I simply take out the two guys displaying their manhood, then go about my business.

No you might fairly argue that I might simply move on to another burger joint to commit my robbery. IOW, like many road projects, I just move the problem somewhere else.

I am NOT anti-gun. I am suggesting we look at ALL the factors, not just some fantasy easy button.

OK. Let's say that actually happens, which it might.

Which is better? Losing 17 people because of one deranged killer who knows full well that his shooting spree is taking place in a gun-free zone ... or losing a couple of people because a highly-trained teacher misjudged a situation?

Btw, how many un-armed teachers have been killed, or injured, by violent students in recent years?
Highly-trained? You mean like the police the kids seem to love so much these days?

The students should carry guns as well to protect themselves from their new government approved, armed instructor.

I can see the MAGA'ing already! Glory to the Police State!

"Fantasy" :scratch:

Isn't that how the "right" describes the non-existent elimination of violence effect of anti-gun laws?

Indeed, what if the teachers become tyrannical and need to be overthrown?
