Seems to me that some ppl attribute to somewhat arbitrary psychological categories a supposed definiteness that is maybe not warranted.

yep. it gets treated like Astrology. The religious fervor that people act on this stuff with. They'll type their friends and family and strangers and use their guesses to influence how they treat these people. then post questions for help when it isn't going well... And its like, how do you even know this person is this type? and if they are, that doesn't mean they're going to be exactly like the stereotypes and so forth. Dating as well can be a big part.

There is a great deal of validity in understanding personality types.
The most important thing I would think ,would be the diversity among people even with the same type of personality.
It's a human mind ,not a machine.
Just because two people score the same on Meyers Briggs ,does not negate individualism.

There still remains reliable patterns of thinking, that are similar but not identical.
Law enforcement officials use such charisitics to solve crime.
In profiles they predict the persons likes or dislikes , and are able to narrow the field for suspects.
But when it comes to criminals, Police are focused on dysfunctional personality types more than a general standard of behavioral pattern.

Hi; what I don't like is that some ppl will project - machine like - onto human minds what they think their categorization ought to be.

True , to not believe in creation is to not believe at all.
You just cannot get something form nothing.
The evolutionary theory has a flaw called infinity.
With each premises on how we got here, all that is needed is a question...
Where did that come from?
They could backtrack a thousand times , and not be able to reconcile the origin of the beginning.

Definitely an XNTP but I lean to ENTP. I thought INTP for a while, but... I don't think so anymore. My friends don't either. I'm an inventor, a debater, and I'm pretty extraverted.
Or as they say, "The most extraverted introvert" or "The most introverted extrovert" :)

What is quite common is the compensated introvert. This is the introvert that has learned to fake extroversion. You can spot them because, although compensated introverts have learned to "be the life and soul of the party," if fatigues them (whereas the true extrovert is energised by parties).

You appear to be right. I’m seeing a lot of infj’s. Can you make a poll thread?
It would be interesting

LOL! Apparently it's not as "rare" as it's claimed to be.

Of course. perhaps I should be more clear. There are two kinds of people who post questions about typing and relationships.
Those who say I think my boyfriend is an INTP, if so, how do I... whatever
and those who treat it like astrology. or like a religion.

lol. Are you questioning my type?

a person who fakes extroversion knows they are doing so. and there are varying degrees of extroversion. By Keirsey's definition, I am extroverted.

A compensated introvert may not realise they are "faking" extroversion, although they will realise that parties fatigue them.

Compensated introverts will also often score E on personality tests, depending on how the questions are asked.

But I was making a purely general comment, not one about you.
