Yes. President Obama was the first one to have his portrait done by digital camera.

It is still the official White House portrait as opposed the one in the National Portrait Gallery.

...so it is embarrassing for Legacy to not realize that Obama chose a photograph instead of a painting like everyone else in the past hundred+ years?

They both have nice teeth.

I don't see the point of having a photograph over an oil painting. I'm obviously biased, having taken art history, but photos are just so... limiting to me.

A photo of a person is a portrait. It describes the composition of the image. They don't necessarily have to be paintings to be called portraits. Also, both Bush and Clinton have their photographs in the OP instead of a painting. I guess those count as official portraits but not Obama's photo?

A) I know what a portrait is.
B) The images are too small to tell if they were photos or oil paintings based on a photo.

My apologies. It seemed like you didn't when you pointed out it was a photograph like that somehow negates it from being an official portrait like all the others.

I'm viewing this on my phone and I can clearly tell those are all paintings up to Bush Sr.

I'm using a crappy work monitor. I couldn't even tell what @Aryeh Jay 's avatar was on this thing. I thought it was a ringwraith.

Thank you

My comments of the portrayal of a US president sitting on a chair that looks like it came from the junk pile being overgrown with vines is beneath the dignity of the office he once held still stands.

Funny thing... I couldn't tell what it was either for the longest time and I think you might have asked in a thread sometime back and that was when I really looked at it and saw it's a guy face-palming.

And the to have it done by an obviously racist artist, who finds pleasure in depicting a woman of one race holding the decapatated head of a woman of another race is horrific in my opinion.

Right. The vines are the problem.

But by your standards Donald brings dignity to the office.

Photos and portraits are not mutually exclusive. A portrait is a type of photograph, painting or drawing that shows a person in a non-candid pose, looking into the camera, usually taken from the chest or shoulders up.

I realize that, it wasn't the point. The point I explicitly made was that his portrait was the first one that is a photograph rather than a painting.

What's wrong with flowers and an old chair?

I’ve posted the answer to your query two times, what part are you having trouble comprehending?

I will do my best to assist you.

I'm loving how the goalposts are changing in this thread. Some makes a disingenuous post about presidential portraits, with excuses like it's the media's fault or "I have a bad monitor," quickly changing gears to certain style of paintings being beneath the office of president, a rather ridiculous and subject argument. You don't like the painting, fine, others do, stop the whining. And now there is an attempt to smear the artists because when the OP falls apart, find some other unproveable thing to harp on.

Honestly, I question if you are even bothering to read the thread at all. Look at the OP. Is the picture of Obama his officiial White House portrait?

No.

However the first images are official White House portraits.

Are you aware there is a difference between the official White House portraits and what is in the National Portrait Gallery (part of the Smithsonian)?

Was the thread to complain about plants and a chair or to make a disingenuous claim about the official presidential portraits?

Everytime I look at the picture, I'm expecting Big Bird, or Bert and Ernie to jump out. The President sitting on a wooden chair that looks like one from my grandmothers junk pile being covered by leaves is not really what I picture for someone who held the highest office in the land.
Reminiscent of Lincoln's portrait sitting in a wooden chair.

Would you prefer Donald's throne?

Oh! I didn't realize you had posted why flowers and chairs are undignified. Can you explain again, or show which post that was?

I had no idea what a Ringwraith was. It looks pretty cool. I see how it could be confusing. It is a picture of a Jewish man praying at the Western Wall.

I guess the secret word for today is disingenuous
