Yes. President Obama was the first one to have his portrait done by digital camera.
It is still the official White House portrait as opposed the one in the National Portrait Gallery.
...so it is embarrassing for Legacy to not realize that Obama chose a photograph instead of a painting like everyone else in the past hundred+ years?

I don't see the point of having a photograph over an oil painting. I'm obviously biased, having taken art history, but photos are just so... limiting to me.
A photo of a person is a portrait. It describes the composition of the image. They don't necessarily have to be paintings to be called portraits. Also, both Bush and Clinton have their photographs in the OP instead of a painting. I guess those count as official portraits but not Obama's photo?
A) I know what a portrait is.
B) The images are too small to tell if they were photos or oil paintings based on a photo.
