What do you believe God thinks about war? Do you have scriptural support?

  • It depends what the war is for and who is involved.

  • God thinks it a necessary 'evil' for now.

  • God desires a military to be ready at ALL times for battle. A country that hasn't had to remain 'vig

What are God's thoughts on war? How do you think God views war, generally speaking? What scriptural support can you provide?

There is a time for war and a time for peace. To everything there is a season.

Eccles. 3:1-4
    To everything there is a season,
        A time for every purpose under heaven:

    [2] A time to be born,
        And a time to die;
    A time to plant,
        And a time to pluck what is planted;
    [3] A time to kill,
        And a time to heal;
    A time to break down,
        And a time to build up;
    [4] A time to weep,
        And a time to laugh;
    A time to mourn,
        And a time to dance;

Eccles. 3:5-8
    A time to cast away stones,
        And a time to gather stones;
    A time to embrace,
        And a time to refrain from embracing;
    [6] A time to gain,
        And a time to lose;
    A time to keep,
        And a time to throw away;
    [7] A time to tear,
        And a time to sew;
    A time to keep silence,
        And a time to speak;
    [8] A time to love,
        And a time to hate;
    A time of war,
        And a time of peace.

but God loves the French I know I am part French.
I think God does not like to see us killing one another especially when wars are fought in His name. but i think He allows them to happen to work out His plan for the world. why He can t do that without war I don t know

Did God surrender to Satan?

God must not be French.

What was the purpose of that? You could have made your point with the first line.
I note the irony that if I attacked America with the vehemence that many here attack France, I would be banned within the day.

Oh boo hoo. Shall I cry amongst all the attacks on America as well?

At least there is generally evidence provided to back those up. That this is a very American-heavy forum ensures that anything stated against America must be backed up by fact. The accusations against the French have no backing and come off looking like simple ethnocentrism.

I note you didn't refute my assertion that someone as anti-American as you are anti-French would be banned within a day.

I voted it depends on who and what because when it comes to war and this us-vs-them mentality, everyone not only knows that God is sanctioning their acts, but God's guiding them as well.

Bush has Jesus, Bin Laden has Allah, and Saddam has all those 30 feet tall pictures of himself all around Bahgdad.

That this is a very American-heavy forum

looks like we don't have enough representatives from other countries.

The old testament is full of wars where God sent His people into battle. In ALL cases he sent a small army in against a bigger stronger army. In some cases the leaders were instructed to send home most of their troops so that God could prove His power and also it was Him that was to receive the glory and not the army itself.

The war against Iraq is not being fought the way God shows us He fights wars and therefore I do not believe it is justified on biblical grounds.

I think this is a war conceived by man, being fought by man, and the glory will go to man. Man will reap what man sows.

2 Chronicles 20.
Judges 7 and Gideon is the best example of the way God fights. I especially like the verse :

Judges 7: 2-9. He starts with 32,000 however God doesn't want him to attack with that many and reduces to army to 300 and then armed them with trumpets........ Now that is Gods way to fight a war!

The LORD said to Gideon, "You have too many men for me to deliver Midian into their hands. In order that Israel may not boast against me that her own strength has saved her, announce now to the people, 'Anyone who trembles with fear may turn back and leave Mount Gilead.' " So twenty-two thousand men left, while ten thousand remained.
But the LORD said to Gideon, "There are still too many men. Take them down to the water, and I will sift them for you there. If I say, 'This one shall go with you,' he shall go; but if I say, 'This one shall not go with you,' he shall not go."
So Gideon took the men down to the water. There the LORD told him, "Separate those who lap the water with their tongues like a dog from those who kneel down to drink." Three hundred men lapped with their hands to their mouths. All the rest got down on their knees to drink.
The LORD said to Gideon, "With the three hundred men that lapped I will save you and give the Midianites into your hands. Let all the other men go, each to his own place." So Gideon sent the rest of the Israelites to their tents but kept the three hundred, who took over the provisions and trumpets of the others.
