• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hello. I've come to this forum when I decided enough's enough. I have been going through a cycle of doubting my salvation or doubting my faith in Jesus. I've been doing this for maybe 2 years. I probably should have come here earlier. I really want to know for sure wether or not I have salvation. Some reasons I might think I'm not saved:

1. The first time I remember that I went to church was when I was in 7th grade (im in 10th grade now). It was easter and I decided "why not go to church?". I learned about the gospel right then, and I had a few tears afterwards.
2. I'm not yet baptized.
3. I fail to resist temptation often.
4. I don't read my Bible outside of church.
5. I used to pray often, but now I don't do it very often.
6. I think I'm slightly depressed and ambition-drained, but that comes every winter.
7. The timing of this post.

Please help! Thank you!
(I will probably be editing this because I'm really tired at the moment)

I wouldn’t think any of those reasons given are sufficient to say that you are not saved. However, my understanding of salvation is a bit different than that of most Baptists.

But I doubt that you have committed the unpardonable sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, so if you doubt your salvation...confess, repent, walk according to His word, fall, get up, repeat...

You know/acknowledge that you are a sinner, and that is the first step.
John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Next, you know you cannot save yourself, and Scriptures affirm this.
Via the verse above, said by Christ, He is the only way. So simply, surrender your life to Him, in your heart, trust that He took your sins away. Have faith.
And the only way your faith is strengthened is by... "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God" - Romans 10:17.
If I could sum it up...Forgiveness - Faith - Word of God - Prayer - Obedience
Your spirit is hungry, feed it with the Word, ask God to speak to you and guide you, humble yourself and be ready if He asks you to surrender certain things or if He asks you to do something out of obedience. God will speak to you as You seek him, but you need to be strong in the Word so you will know what is His will and instructions.

Were you honest and genuine when you received Christ? If so, would you willingly go back to the life you lived before you received Christ?
If you can honestly answer those questions, then you are genuinely saved. What is happening to you is a sanctification issue. You need to diligently seek God for Him to reveal Himself to you in a new way. Instead of trying to access Him through a church, you need to get away by yourself and get to grips with God directly. If you seek Him with all your heart, you will find Him. The Scripture says that the one who comes to God must believe that He is there and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Once you establish contact with Him on a personal level, then all the other issues will resolve themselves.

LucB.....sounds like you have many shortcomings....all I can say is welcome to the club! We all sin every hour of the day—— If not in deed,surely in thought. Don’t let anybody fool you because “ we all have secret thoughts that would shame hell” If we could just straighten up and be good that might satisfy God.The problem is God is not looking for “ good” people.He is looking for “perfect” people.So that’s the bad new.Fortunately for us God has “ good news”. It is the good news that God will declare us perfect,make us fit for Heaven if we simply believe the Gospel thAt saves......1cor15:1-4..... if you see that you are a sinner who needs a SAVIOR and believe that Jesus Christ is that Savior and that He was crucified and rose from the dead,all you have to do is simply believe that and God will save you.its that simple. Don’t listen to those who pervert it by adding to it.Love God and love your neighbor are the only 2 commands for Christians.Trust God to change you from the inside out as you grow over time.If you are a Believer in the Gospel God will give you His Holy Spirit who lead you to do good works that you will be rewarded for in this life and the next.You are not worthy
To go to Heaven and you don’t have to be—— Christ has “ made” us worthy if we will simply trust Him and not our pitiful performance to get us there.As they say..” let go and let God.Rest in His finished work. God bless.

John 14:23

Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

I would not want to chance it giving a half hearted effort for God. I have been guilty of this through out much of my life. He wants your all. I can't say for certain, but I wouldn't want to die in a state of deliberate sin. You must strive to be your best and continue to do so. Do you trust In him and have a relationship with him? If you believe, then you act upon that by doing. I hope this helps answer your question some.

Get Baptized. You need to believe that Jesus died and was resurrected from the dead. Also profess by mouth Jesus is Lord of Lords, King of Kings. Both of these actions are required to be saved (Mathew 7, 21-22. Romans 10, 9 -10). Set specific times for daily Bible Reading, you can pray anytime you feel the need. Temptation, ask yourself what Jesus would do!

I do not see from anything you say as evidence of God's salvation. It is not about good works! Have you read John 3, John 14, and also the epistle of Romans; and noted 1 Jn. 5:10-12 in the Bible? You may need to read that again if you have, and ask God to reveal the truth of it. Believing in a god is not salvation! Believing about the Lord Jesus, and even trying to follow His teachings is not salvation! Going to church services is not salvation! Baptism is not salvation! Living morally and being good to your neighbors is not salvation!

a} One MUST believe in the Creator-God (Jehovah);
b} then according to the New Testament one MUST see salvation in God's beloved Son --the Lord Jesus;
c} and then thank God for sending Him to pay the price of redemption, and confess you are a sinner as God declares;
d} and receive the Lord Jesus into your heart as your Savior, and make Him Lord of your life (and best Friend).

There is no short-cut to salvation, so begin reading the Gospels and Epistles and see what God is trying to say to you, friend. Therein is the message of God to all mankind for salvation and eternal hope. I will pray for you.

That second sentence is all one needs.The rest is all good, but it won’t save you or keep you saved.....the simple way of salvation is here—— 1 cor15:1-4. Add to it at your own risk.

read the story of the prodigal son.....in time you will become so bankrupt of all that you once had when you were in fellowship with your Father that you will come back....the path you are on leads to despair and remorse. The story of the prodigal son has a very happy ending....when he returned home the Father rejoiced and through a huge party and placed the robe upon him and put the ring on his finger......
So here is what is happening...the Holy Spirit is drawing you...He has put conviction in your heart....YOU are here because YOU want to come back home....after you read this...just get down on your knees and call upon Him...repent, ask for forgiveness, let Jesus become Lord and Savior in your life and submit yourself to yielding to the instruction of the Holy Spirit to guide you into all truth and knowledge of God's Word.
And when you have prayed, take time to Praise Him and Thank Him for the gift of salvation, for His Mercy and Grace, and for His unconditional love.
Now the Bible says when a one who was lost is found the hosts of heaven rejoice singing Hallelujah, hallelujah for the lost son has come home!!! It really is quite a party up there...welcome home.

Bro... I was saved because I believed in him not because I went to some brick building. And it's not enough to say you believe he exists. I was saved because I met him in myself. There is a secret world within you. The body is his temple according to his book. Go meet him :)

That's how I was saved. It's a relationship not a cult lol

Fortunately your salvation isn't based on how you feel, but on the power of God. As long as you make it about a standard of works then you will always realize you fall short. The Bible makes it clear that we fall short. You don't deserve it. That's kinda the point of grace.
Where does it say that those who read their bible outside of church will be saved? Does your salvation really depend on baptism? I'm not saying you shouldn't be baptized. But, your salvation isn't based on that.
