She says a Spirit rep had a suggestion: flush Pebbles. And so Aldecosea says she spent 10 minutes crying in the stall where she did the deed. She says she's considering suing Spirit over losing Pebbles, who she says was classified as an emotional support animal.

What is it with airlines these days..?

I understand that in the United States . . . if this really happened . . . this would be prosecutable animal cruelty. And a hamster is not a very big animal to be a contested support animal.

But that peacock they showed in the news . . . maybe a little bit more difficult . . . to swallow or flush.

I might have question about if the worker really meant that. But people can do stuff like this.

What is it with people these days who think they need to have an "emotional support" pet everywhere they go?
I don't know, might have something to do with this woman having painfull growths in her neck. Who cares about human emotions, right? But if you want to have an animal like that and you are told that you can take it with you, then you shouldn't have to flush it down the toilet.

Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Makes me wonder how humankind has made it so far without having to drag and emotional support animal with us every time we've faced adversity, illness, heartache or in general...........life.

Having a pet at home to keep you company is one thing. Having to cart it with you everywhere you go is another. I am NOT referring to service animals for handicapped folks.

Don't mean to troll you, but you are an example of why society has such a hard time with mental health.

Not everyone is as mentally strong and emotionally strong as you. Human beings are best thought of as a bell curve. Sure, for most of us that fit underneath "the norm" the thought of having an emotional support animal seems silly.

but that doesn't mean it isn't necessary for some people.

When you have something physically wrong with you, it is acceptable to go to the doctor and get treatment.

But for some reason in this country if you have something mentally wrong with you, then you are considered "Weak" or "Stupid" or "pathetic" yada yada yada

As a people, we've got to get over this stigma concerning mental health

One giant step for man, one MASSIVE flying experience for Pebbles!

"Pebbles the hampster last seen downtown arming itself for an all out assault on Spirit"
.....or Pebbles will serve as a snack for the alligators others have flushed down the toilet.

Oh come on! Don't be so callous....A support animal is more responsive than a blanky, and a thumb.

Well....at some point in childhood, one's parents should hopefully ween their children off the blanky and thumb.

Ordering someone to flush their pet is out of line, but you only have to spend a few minutes reading forums like flyertalk to realise how ridiculous the whole Emotional support Animal thing has become.

Soon there'll be so many animals on planes it will be like taking trains in China as a kid.

...just one more reason I don't fly if my company will let me drive.

I think I might need an emotional support animal to help me deal with the folks who think they need emotional support animals. :D

I'm happy to accommodate folks with legitimate disabilities, but AFAIK, it's become something of a <thing> to exaggerate both the need and the medical efficacy of these animals. If someone is willing to flush their animal down the toilet at the alleged behest of an airline ticket agent, I have to wonder exactly how much support they needed. I've had friends with emotional support animals, and for as much attention as they doted on those animals, they may as well have been children.
