Beware of the thing that is called "Prosperity Gospel". Sure, God promises prosperity, but God also promises hardship and persecution. You may be talking about passages like Proverbs 10:22 or John 10:10.
I believe that context and meaning is relevant. In many cases, the promise of prosperity refers to to the prosperity in heaven, not earth.
Second, riches can take many forms. I believe that the most prominent one is the gift of salvation, a gift that worth more than anything else one could imagine.
Also, look at 2 Corinthians 8:9. I highly doubt the phrases rich and poor means monetary gain and loss, but instead God coming down to us as Jesus so that we can be saved and lifted up.

The problem with the "Prosperity Gospel" is that is does not focus on Christ and our salvation through him, but instead brings to the focus on our (monetary) gain when we believe. That is false. One must remember that the purpose of the coming of Jesus and ultimately the bible is our salvation and to save our souls from hell, as well as about our fellowship with God. That is the ultimate price. Earthly riches will fade. 1 Timothy 6:7-12 shows that things we gain here on earth have no value beyond this world. The only thing we can take with us is our souls (read: us), so it best to focus on gaining eternal values such as patience, diligence, love and other things that makes a godly character.

If one is blessed with material possessions, one must give thanks to God, use them responsibly and not worship the money over God. If one is blessed with poverty, one must also give thanks to God, for it teaches us humility and allows us to appreciate the gifts given by God all the more. Life is a learning experience that every one of us will experience it differently, but what remains the same is that God has gifted us salvation and that is the greatest gift we could receive from Him.

I think Prosperity is subjective.......some may think it is lots of money(also subjective), others a house and car.....others healthy spouse and children........others, the ability to give freely without thought of their own financial situation being compromised. etc.....

I believe everyone should define it for themselves and obtain it( or not obtain it), if they so choose.
I don't disagree that the term is subjective with respect to how we define it for ourselves. Unfortunately, folks sometimes think the way they define it is the way God promises it. "God promised me prosperity, so when does my BMW arrive?" And then they wonder why God didn't keep His promise, when in fact they never understood what He promised at all.

I happen to believe that God goes by what we believe. Jesus usually asked the person He healed if they believe that he can do it first. And there were Places he went where He couldnt do much work because of unbelief.

I say, if you want a bmw, you can ask God for it and he Will give it. But I know this....which is why it works for me......but for those who dont believe this....of course it is true that it doesnt work.

God promised to give us the desires of our hearts......Your desires are different from mine......maybe i just want health.....and you want the 7 series....neither of us are right or wrong and we will get what we desire....... Now knowing this.....It is very important to remember that it Profits you nothing to collect all your BMWs and lose your soul......otherwise this warning to the believer, is unnecessary.

However, you wanting a BMW from God could be indicative of a larger issue. The story of Jesus and The Rich Young Man shows that if we value earthly things to such a high degree, it may hurt our relationship with God. Now, I am not saying that you are not a good Christian. God forbid. What I am saying is that we must be aware and take every thought captive, examine it and pray for discernment. "Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour." Something may seem innocent enough, but in reality it may be something that hurt us.

It could be a larger issue.......Believing that God doesnt give riches but some other entity does or you gain them on your own, could be indicative of a larger issue as well.

I love the story of the rich Man.....I am the rich man....yet, I dont get anything related to physical wealth or possessions from this parable....yet spiritual truths.....does this mean that Im focused too much on the wealth of this world.....or are the ones who see money in this parable, too focused on physical wealth?

There are many things that can hinder your relationship with God. I wouldnt put money at the top of the list(unless you worship it)....but of course it can.

I advise you to be sober minded as well.....satan is not clearly visible....his hiding spots not easily figured out. He may just be hiding in the last place you would think to look.

PROSPERITY, why we haven't this?
i purse for love and i've found life but no prosperity
Trust me, wealth isn't all that rosy or easy to handle. The more you have the more the responsibilities. God'll give you wealth in His good time. Keep seeking Him. God bless :).

i am referring the bible guys, the bible says we can have prosperity
Brother, the Bible also tells us that in the last days, men will suppose that gain is godliness. From such, turn away. For we brought nothing into this world and we can take nothing out, so with food and clothing, be content.

That is why we cannot cherry pick scriptures to fit our agenda. Our job is to seek that He fits us into His agenda, amen?

Blessings,

Gideon

Do you think that this verse is voided if somehow we are not in the last days after all? The principle remains the same.

How many there are who do not understand that until Jesus is the sole object of our desire, anything else can become an idol.

Brother, I am 68 years old, have adopted my 10th grandchild Jack, who is 8, have adopted my 4th great grandchild Gavin, who is 20 months, drive a 12 year old vehicle with tons of miles, rent, and my wonderful wife is battling cancer. And I am blessed, and yes, consider myself prosperous.

I am a walking billboard for the scripture that says “Godliness with contentment is great gain”, and trust me, that godliness is not my doing. I have found He causes me to walk in full obedience to Him, just as He promises us in Ezekiel 36. May He bless you with the revelation that He is more than sufficient to satisfy your soul.

Blessings, dear brother

Yes, you must sell all you have and give to it to the poor and follow Christ... Your flesh must be murdered to give life to a tree planted by the rivers of water, that springeth up unto everlasting life.

But what does this have to do with natural prosperity in this world?
That was actually said by Jesus.

There is a difference between having prosperity and in seeking prosperity through prayer and church/christian service.

I agree, there is a big difference.....once we understand the difference.....we will have everything we desire.

I am the father of children.... I told them that I have everything and everything I have is theirs.....and anything they ask me for, I will give them..... I then told them to try me and see if i wont open the windows of heaven and give them more than they can receive.

I would be very disappoint if someone, without, proceeded to tell them not to ask me for certain things or tried to make them think that, even though I told them i will give them everything, That I would, in fact, only give them a few things and not to even ask for the other things.

And I would be even more disappointed with my children for believing what those outside have said, over my words.....They are supposed to love me with all their heart and have a relationship with me.

OK, my words are a little confusing sometimes....but I also told them that if you lack wisdom, ask me and i will give it freely......so why get and believe explanations from others?

I wonder if God feels the same.
