Sorry, I don't know Joe or Charles, but I agree The natural man does not receive the scripture and understand when it is taught to him by inspiration of God.2 Tim. 3:16 is foundational, but it does not negate that the Holy Spirit is the one behind the scriptures that is doing the teaching, correcting, training. The natural man does not receive the scripture and understand when it is taught to him - he rejects it, misinterpreted it, and distorts it. You must be born again, spiritually transformed to receive and discern scripture, otherwise you go off on a tangent like Joseph Smith, Charles Taze Russel or the Jesus Seminar types.
Acts of the Apostles 1:4-8 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
If Jesus were God and the Holy Spirit why would he say, "wait for the gift my Father promised...you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you" for he had not yet ascended. John 14:20 On that day you will know that I am in my Father and that you are in me and that I am in you.
John 14:26-28 But the intercessor, spirits, whom the Father will send in My name, they will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. 28 You heard that I said to you, ‘I go away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced because I go to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.
LSJ: intercessor, Ph.2.520; Middle Liddell: .in NTest., ὁ Παράκλητος, the Intercessor; who was that intercessor? "mine angel"
King James Bible: Revelation 22:16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
Hebrews 1:14 Are not the angels ministering spirits, sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?
So beware how you interpret scripture or you may not find a spear: 2 Samuel 23:7 But the man who touches them Must be armed with iron and the shaft of a spear, And they shall be utterly burned with fire in their place."
