People do not need signs, they need help.

Matt 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

Cross or fish? I just ordered myself a fish necklace.
How important is it for christians to visibly carry a sign/symbol of our Lord?
What is your opinion?
I don't actually wear any jewelry at all. Since mobile phones came out I got rid of my watch, too. I still wear my wedding ring. Same one thirty years later. That's it.

Oh, my glasses, too. Tried contact lenses, but one of my eyes is too egg-shaped for them to work.

Yes, I must look for mine, I don't think there is a need to wear a symbol, but it is good I am sure. My Spirit always responds to a fish symbol on a car as there are not too many in the North of England.
I would say, yes wear it and pray for the Lord to bless your witness, I will do the same.

I’ve worn various crosses, crucifixes, and wrist bands over the years. I don’t know how “important” it is, but I feel comfortable with some outward reminder. I’m currently in Mormon country, so crosses are frowned upon. But then I don’t care.

While it is not a sin to wear a cross or a fish necklace, ring or pendant (unless it is become an idol), Christians show their Christianity by loving their brothers and sisters in Christ, and through the proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ. That is the Christian's visual symbol: to love one another.

I would ask how important is it to whom? I think it is not important to carry a sign as a symbol of our faith to others. It is better that our lives and words speak to that. But perhaps some of us need to carry a sign as a reminder to ourselves of Whose we are, what we believe, and how we are to live as disciples.

I wear a cross daily under my shirt, not as a sign to others but as a constant reminder to me. I also do not think it wrong to wear a visible symbol.

I usually wear a cross under my shirt, and except at work, wear a komboskini bracelet. These are more reminders and visible symbols for myself than any kind of witness. I agree with what others have said paraphrasing Christ’s words in John 13:35.

I'm reticent to do anything like that. I did a study on "using the Lord's name in vain" a few decades ago and was fascinated to learn that it is not about swearing. Rather, it is about "using" the Lord's name in inappropriate ways like, for example, putting the fish on your business cards to tell people, "do business with me. See, I'm a Christian.", or the fish symbol on your car to say, "please don't give me a ticket. See, I'm a Christian."

It all depends an what's in your heart though.

For me, I carry no symbols whatsoever. I'd have a hard time being a Catholic with my attitude toward the crucifix.

I've seen Christian Cross necklaces on Rap stars, Pr0n Stars, and quite a few other people that, well, are not offering a very positive testimony. I know I'm not perfect either. In fact, one reason I don't have a fish on my car is because sometimes I can be rather assertive on the road. Last thing I need is to damage His message as people watch the guy with the fish on his car do something they don't think is appropriate.

So what is a komboskini? :)

Since becoming Orthodox, I wear a small cross under my shirt.
It is a reminder to me that I must take up my cross and follow Christ daily.
I didn't wear jewelry prior (other than a watch on occasion and my wedding band).

It is not what the symbol itself looks like that is important, it is what you believe and how you behave when wearing it that matters. People's understanding of what the symbol stands is transformed by your behavior. You are both a steward (example) of the meaning of the symbol as well as one who helps define the meaning of the symbol.

I wear a little wooden cross on a leather strap under my shirt. My skin is sensitive and most metals cause me to break out. My wedding ring is titanium. My wife has a fish emblem on her car not to get out of tickets but hey if it works that's great!

Although I'm Lutheran I consider myself catholic (part of the universal Christian church) and have a bumper sticker that reads "Catholic Est. 33AD". I also live in Mormon country and can be a bit of an instigator.

I have a couple of cross necklaces and pair of earrings but don't have any fishy-type jewellery. I don't think it's absolutely important to wear them because our attitudes and actions should show our true beliefs in Christ.

I always wear a wooden cross from a tree in Jerusalem. Mostly I wear it under my top. It doesn't go with everything and, also, to be honest, it seems to me that when I have been in very liberal places that it makes people kind of unfriendly. Proverbs tell us to be discrete in evil times.

I have heard the fish is pagan, so to be on the safe side don't wear one.

The Bible tells us to wear the word on our hands/wrists, so I wear a bangle bracelet with a few words from Psalm 23 on it, and wear a ring, also, that has Scripture on it. I never take them off. You can get such things easily online.

Aside from a wedding ring and occasionally a watch I have a tiny tattoo of a butterfly on my chest over my heart. Twenty years ago when a daughter suffered severe mental illness someone commented "if she ever comes out of this it will be like a butterfly emerging from a cocoon" When she emerged, thanks to modern medicine and psychiatry, my wife and I both got the tattoo. The butterfly has become a motif around our home.
