The idiots are welcome to express themselves on the public square, just don't harass people who walk by. The women in question persisted even when young school children filed back (probably on a field trip to the state capital building).

The article does not call the protest massive either, so it's difficult to understand what article you're referring to.
That’s fine. Some do.

Care to post links to these articles citing massive protests? Two articles on the story have been posted here and they do not refer to massive protests. The only person making reference to the protest size is you. Nonetheless, the size of the group is irrelevant as the story is in reference to their conduct, not the size of their attendance.

Actually, the size is relevant. And the fact that the number wasn’t mentioned is relevant. But I’m sure we will disagree on this.

Perhaps the article is not about the number but about the ideas expressed? After all it is not like there is a small amount of anti immigrant sentiment currently.

Precisely, but apparently the issue of harassing a Native American and the accusation of him being illegal is deserving of scoffing and mockery. I wish I could say this is a surprising reaction to see on this site, but that wouldn't be honest. I can't say much else because it would be seen as flaming.

He wasn't funny.

I don't think it was funny at all either. I don't think downplaying the harassment of a Native American lawmaker or any Native American, is funny and deserving of being scoffed at and mocked.

Agreed. As a Christian, it's really weird to see deflection from such blatant racism.

I thought it was incumbent upon the Christian to speak out against injustice.

Who did that?

While I hear where you are coming from I think you should consider a different point of view. I think in a way they are agreeing with you. I think they view these people as idiots. My guess is that where the disagreement lies is in that people who espouse such ignorant views are vanishingly small. I think you and I would argue that this small view is indicative of a larger trend that is less extreme but more prevalent and is therefore tolerant of such views.

Not from where I'm standing and not from my 20+ years of experience in Native American social activism either. It's rather rare not to see some kind of deflection and attempt at justification. I'm basing that on my personal experience from my childhood and my involvement in native activism.

Thanks for that. It's good to see things from the perspective of someone whose experiences are nothing like mine. It's people like you who shape me as a human being and a Christian.

God bless, and thank you for being you.

The letter sent by the AZ Senate minority leader raises some valid points: Arizona citizens have a right to visit the capital building without being verbally harassed, threatened and for that matter, recorded without permission.

"These protestors were yelling in a threatening way to anyone who they perceived to not
be white, asking if they supported illegal immigration, calling them illegal immigrants, and
telling them to leave, with visibly displayed weapons. This included capitol staff and
visitors, including elementary school students and children even younger.

At one point, one of the protestors dropped their weapon in front of the senate building,
scaring everyone in the vicinity.

I am concerned, to say the least, that at many times this yelling escalated to the level of
harassment, or was perceived as harassment by those on the receiving end, and nothing
was done by law enforcement to intervene.
It has also been reported that when law
enforcement did intervene, it was towards bystanders who were trying to protect students
from this harassment, rather than the protestors.

That was cringe worthy. He's a Sikh, and she's yelling about Sharia.

At least she's just yelling at him ignorantly instead of shooting him like some "patriots" did to Sikhs after 9/11.
