"As the U.S. sends thousands more troops to Afghanistan and ratchets up airstrikes, a new report from a U.S. military auditor suggests that the war is still at a stalemate, with signs of continued decline in Afghan government control.

And the amount of basic information available to the public about the war is getting smaller, making it more difficult for the U.S. taxpayer to understand how U.S.-supported forces are faring in their fight against the Taliban."

We were never not at war in Afghan. There have always been American troops there supporting the Afghan government. This is just another expansion of the war. Trump, and other war mongers, need to have a constant state of war.

Poppie Bush's CIA is protecting the freedom of poppie farmers.
You didn't know the CIA is the world's biggest drug dealer?
Clinton worked for him both at Oxford and in Arkansas.

Reagan was a drug dealer long before Bush41. Have you ever heard of Mena Arkansas, and Barry Seals?

Yes. The administration, like that of President Obama, feels that it is important not to let Afghanistan become an ISIS base of operations and/or a satellite of Pakistan from which she could stage her own terrorist attacks or use it as a fallback position in a war with India. Actually, "winning" in Afghanistan is not the objective so much as denying it to one or several other forces in the region.

Yes, the shortsighted idea that we can use force to make things right, or even just to keep things from being worse (!)....continues.

That illusion.

Against the advice to us from the Supreme Allied Commander of Expeditionary Forces of World War II, ender of the Korean War, and 2 term republican President, Dwight ("Ike") Eisenhower.

Against his advice to the effect that war resolves nothing.

It's only ideas that ever defeat ideas.

Dwight D. Eisenhower Quotes

Another I just noticed from Ike:
"Though force can protect in emergency, only justice, fairness, consideration and cooperation can finally lead men to the dawn of eternal peace."

From the mere worldly secular consideration, it's not even the best strategy to still be fighting over there. We already had as credible a deterrence to future attacks on our soil as is ever possible to establish -- already.

We cannot defeat the native people on their own soil of course.... So even from the worldly secular view of raw power, even in that view, it's a bad idea to be over there.

Having pointed out the worldly military viewpoint above, let's talk instead about what could actually help!

Better ideas given in a way that they could hear, to defeat the bad ideology of the taliban over time.

That's the only thing that could.

And the best ideas are those from Christ, even when we are too weak at some moment to believe, it's still how it is. In the end, only sacrificial love wins.

A lot of proposals on why people think we're in Afghanistan... Is there an official explanation, by the government, as to why our taxdollars are being spent there?

...One poster predicted 20 more years -which seems to suggest that it is worth more money than we could imagine.

What is so important, really?

If we're going to spend that kind of money there, I want a City State. I want 3 or 4 of them, and I want them connected by raised toll roads, complete with dining, real estate a night life and emoloyment opportunities.

We have already been there for 16 years, 7 years longer than the Soviets who realized early on that it is a no win situation (just like the British, Alexander the Great, and anyone else who tried to “win” Afghanistan). We are a stubborn nation and will not admit defeat until the cost becomes so high that it cannot be ignored. Plus, war is good for the economy… (rare earth elements and poppies help too).

We've been there so long, it's a part of us now. It's just as much ours as it is theirs.

Paying billions without receiving material property is foolish and just plain bad business.

Technically the answer is "no", because, as you have learned, it is "still" and not "again".
"Operation Enduring Freedom" - the "enduring" part is apt.
We've been there so long, it's a part of us now. It's just as much ours as it is theirs.
Spoken like a true imperialist.

Yeah, money, that's what it's all about. More than a few lives were also lost (US casualties, because that's what we care about;UK casualties; Canadian; French although we like to pretend they weren't there all along; etc.; etc.; etc.) on all sides.

lets not let those deaths be in vain... Something good and useful has to come from this. Otherwise it's a big fail.

...I have a personal policy, that if I lose, something better always has to result.

Now let's claim some land! Not all. Just some.
