What do people think of Plato and the Form and how it works with the Bible? I don't consider myself Platonic so much in my walk with God, as I consider myself more of a pragmatist that goes with what works. Plato and Socrates, seems to work very well with The Bible. Socrates was one of the most influential thinkers in Western Culture, and he may have had large influence on the writers of The New Testament.

The Forms and The Ties That Bind.

The following is a higher level look at The Bible, scripture, and how it works. I am going to keep it as simple as possible. To best understand it I have some short youtube videos.

The Forms

Who was Socrates? - 8 Bit

Notice that Socrates in the video looks a lot like a Prophet from The Bible. Given you wanted to test this: http://kingwatch.co.nz/Prophet.htm

"The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone;" (Psalms 118:22)

The Stone rejected is in the Old Testament. It is in The New Testament. (Luke 20:9-19)(1 Peter 2) Jesus Christ is the Stone rejected by the builders. (Acts 4:11) The Stone is a Form of something. The New Testament lays out certain characteristics of The Son of Man. I will attach a song to each for better visualization as it may pertain today.

For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. (Matthew 24:27)

Thunderstruck.

The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.” (Matthew 11:19)

Think Ill Just Stay Here and Drink.

Jesus replied, "Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head." (Luke 9:58)

Anywhere The Wind Blows

The Son of Man is a Form of something. Jesus is Son of Man. Ezekiel is Son of Man. The Son of Man is in the Old Testament. The Stone Rejected by the Builders is mentioned in both New and Old Testament.

There had to be a falling away.
Don't let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. (2 Thessalonians 2:3)

Satan is a liar and thief. God is a creator. Satan steals up things of God or things God created. Anything Good. He twists and corrupts it and works it towards some other image.

for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.(1 Thessalonians 5:2)

Someone who accepts a lie as truth is in The Dark. Someone lied, and someone else liked the lie or believed the lie was better than truth? They accepted it. At times, lies may become institutionalized. Many people may be born and die in darkness. They do not know the Truth. They are in a Cave of Darkness and Ignorance. Jesus Christ is the Messiah and the Light out of The Cave and into God's Kingdom.

You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. (1 Thessalonians 5:5)

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (Ephesians 5:8)

In the Book of Judges, there was a falling away. People would cry out to God. God would send them a Judge. The Stone Rejected by the Builders becomes the Chief Cornerstone. (Psalms 118:22)

Jesus said much against the wisdom of the world. While Paul did quote some secular speakers, the message of the cross is not something that Socrates would have held to. I very much oppose the idea that the NT is influenced by Socrates. Scripture says the Son of God is the Word and that he taught the apostles what to say through the Holy Spirit.

John 16:13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.”

Acts 5:40 His speech persuaded them. They called the apostles in and had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.41 The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name.

Socrates was also against the wisdom of the world. A lot of men, especially men in some sort of academic pursuit, may suffer from pride attached to their ego. I don't know. Given God is talking to you, I don't know is very profound. Given you think you know something, and are wrong, you may not be hearing what God is telling you. Why do you need something false to be true? Does it bring you comfort? Are you scared of it not being true? The Holy Ghost is a teacher and a councilor. False beliefs degrade character.

Socrates would drink a lot and then rebuke people for their morality. What was on his heart?

God used Assyria to destroy Israel and Babylon to destroy Judah. God is The Lord of Hosts. He has had his hand in affairs not-Israel. Jesus Christ was the Stone Rejected by the builders. (Acts 4:11) He fit into something like the puzzle piece. Socrates seems to be part of it.

Have you read the "Book of Wisdom", sometimes called "The Wisdom of Solomon"? It is part of the Septuagint that was written in Alexandria between the time of Plato and Christ. It was a Jewish scholars attempt to explain the Jewish scripture in Greek terms.

I haven't read it. I have had it brought up in discussion before. Mostly, if I remember correctly, with wisdom being personified as a woman.
