Hi all, I need to give you some context to understand whats happening, but over the last week or so I have been concentrating on tackling my social anxiety, i have been forcing myself to attend social functions and my confidence did increase...however I felt I was drifting in my spiritual life and wasnt reading my bible or praying and I was falling back into sins I had left behind...yesterday I did a mini sermon on the sovereignity of God and I was so nervous and I felt like it went awfully...but even before then I had a strange sense of anxiety and dread that has stayed with me since then...any idea why?

You must not be perfect in love.

I had a verse from the website BibleGateway replied and it didn't show up the way I thought it was going to so I deleted it. It was a verse about the amount of fear in love.

That's not an encouraging statement! No one is perfect!

There is a bible verse that reads be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. I looked at it from the BibleGateway website to type it here.

That fact is that there is a bible verse that reads be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. I looked at it from the biblegateway website to type it here.

You might want to be less judgmental. Christians are to encourage one another.

You're being spiritually ambitious. Your potential seems to be great.

Satan is trying, and will continue to try, to derail you.

You are going to have to make some choices about how God is going to be able to use you. We all do ...

I'm very happy for you that you were able to get out and socialize.

Well, I can only guess, and maybe best to just offer several possibilities, and then you could check if any of them are useful, or perhaps one might suggest some other thing. You are a different person, and would have some different things you need than I needed likely. But telling you my own needs might be helpful. Even though I knew the Bible fairly well long ago, I don't think I could ever have tried to preach as a younger Christian, say even 8 years ago, to a group of strangers, because I was not ready. For me, it would have been a first things first problem. There were so other things I needed first. Even just having some good stuff to preach would not be enough, because instead I had a more important issue or 3 to address first, especially some confession, some repenting of some things I had not repented of, and needed to. And also, at that time I was not yet fully doing the greatest commandment, so therefore I surely would not have been ready to represent Christ, not even yet doing what He said is the most primary thing to do! So, you see, even with a good knowledge of scripture, and some faith, I was not ready yet. Of course you are a different person, with different circumstances, and different things to do, and I can't know what things you need to do. Another thought that comes to mind though, entirely different, is how we are not always eager even if we are ready, so that's the opposite problem, one like Moses had, for instance. Or it could be something else. But I do know that from doing the greatest commandment, I became so much less afraid of people's reaction to me (actually all the way to zero now!), in contrast to my conditioning from childhood to be somewhat fearful, and more about loving them. I'd not think many younger Christians are called to preach though. It's more for most that we are called to do "love one another" in certain ways we are gifted to do individually. Put into different words, you could 'preach' at times to individuals (who you know are willing to hear at that moment). Of course, you may indeed be called to preach, but I wouldn't know whether. I just know it would have made me feel as you feel back at that time.

I am sorry you had that sense of anxiety and dread. I will pray to the Lord that he soothes your mind and soul and comforts you.

Hi, Ben. So you prepared a brief message and gave it to a group of people? This is an achievement! What we need to focus on is the spiritual benefit of what you studied from the Word and spoke about. Feelings come and go; but 'the Word of the Lord endureth for ever' (1 Peter 2.25). In 1 Samuel 30.6, in circumstances when feelings were running high, naturally speaing, it's recorded that 'David encouraged himself in the Lord His God'. So it's good to focus on what we know is true! :)

God's not judging us on performance, what He regards as us being perfect has to do with our relationship spiritually to Him.
I see v48 as us being sanctified holy by His power at work in our life. This is a clear statement of truth, 'You shall be perfect'. In the eternal state we are perfect as the new creations in Christ due to Him being at work in us for we ARE HIS WORKMANSHIP.

Hebrews 12:22-24New King James Version (NKJV)
22 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, 23 to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, 24 to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.

Deuteronomy 32:4
He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways arejustice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He.

That verse in context.
Matthew 5:43-48New King James Version (NKJV)
Love Your Enemies
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? 48 Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.

I don't personally read the NKJV. I read the NASB. The NIV was typed but I normally read the NASB and would type the NASB.
