What is Zoroastrianism? I have heard that was the main religion in Iran before Islam but I have not been able to learn anything about it.

Hello Darioush, and welcome to ChristianForums!

Yes, I'm sure there is a lot of misunderstanding between our nations and even between our respective religions. It saddens me that people in our world just can't seem to find it in themselves to approach each other more peacefully. It would be great if things could improve for the better in the future. So, in relation to this, I have a few questions for you:

1) What do you think our respective peoples need to realize, together, in order to achieve mutual peace?

2) What is your daily life like in Iran? And what parts of life do you enjoy the most?

Peace,

Zoroastrism is the old religion of Iran and still practiced. In many ways it combined with Islam. For example we have celebrations that have not much in common with Islam, like Nowrooz.

Zoroastrim has two aspects. The good side is represented by the god Ahura Mazda. The evil side by the god Ahriman. It is a bit like your god and satan.

Pleased to meet you, Darioush. I teach English, so I can tell you that your writing is very good. Where did you study English, and how long?

In the US, we hear a lot about how the Iranian government feels about the US, but what about the Iranian people? What, in general, do you and your peers hear about the United States?

Also, how do the people in Iran feel about your own government?

1. I think USA must finally accept and respect Iran. Iran never was colonized and has a gigantic history. Just remember our great persian empire. Iran doesnt accept any arrogant behavior shown by some elements of the american government.

Another factor is, that Iran always was the dominant power in the region until 1979. The Islamic Revolution, sanctions and the Iran - Iraq war weakened us and the american support for Saudi Arabia created a unnatural state. Now things change back to normal and Iran takes control over large areas in our sphere of influence. Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan.

There are certain points Iran will never discuss. Our military and defense is one.

USA need to understand that we share many ideas. We crushed ISIS in Syria and Iraq for example.

On the other side we also have our faults regarding this. One point is Israel. I dont see Israel as big threat for us. And majority of Iranians think that way.

As for my daily life, well ha ha

I wake up at 6am. eat breakfast and then shower and brush teeth and style up. Then head for university from 8AM to 2 PM. Then go to training which i finish at 5 pm. Until 7 pm i hang around with my friends and then go home to eat with my family. At weekends we party, meet in the forests or mountains and chill. Hiking for example is very popular.

Thank you :D

I learned english normal at school. Its teached here beginning at 5th grade and i had it for 5 years.

As for the United States. Well it is mixed. We see alot of its nature. Some part of your country look like ours. Tehran for example looks a bit like Los Angeles. We just have higher mountains. ;P

We see american movies and i think we see it in different ways. If you think we get teached all americans are evil, then you are wrong. Since some years Iran gets more and more tourism and so we also have american tourists and i guarantee you they get treated nice.

As for our government, well Iran is a complex country. Keep in mind we are the only democratic system in the middle east. We have hardliners and liberals. Our current president Rouhani is rather liberal and opens Iran. He faces alot heat from the conservative oppossition.

Ok. I can understand that. I think peoples of all nations should learn better to respect the social and cultural boundaries of their neighbors in the larger world. Yes, I know from my World History studies that Iran is in some ways the inheritor of the ancient persian empire. However, please know that as a Christian (and a philosopher), I don't value the concept of "Empire" to any high degree, and I don't think respect for others should be based on strength of arms or cultural fortitude--not for even my own nation, and not for any other nation. Only God should have the honor due to strength of being, along with the truths that come with that understanding. It is too bad, in my estimation, that the nations of the world have often resorted to flexing their might to one another in order to supposedly prove themselves to one another. I find that kind of thing very tiresome; and again, I find this tiresome whether it comes from my own nation or from another.

Yes, I understand. Politics is a mess, a mess that we all wish could be sorted out. However, the truth of the matter is that the governments of the world decide too often to do the things they do without the full support (or even knowledge) of their respective peoples. Those in power in governments typically make the decisions they do without much, if any, recourse to asking those they govern as to what the best course of action would be. So, for instance, you have in the U.S. those citizens who supported the involvement of the U.S. troops in the Middle-East, AND there are a large number of citizens who did not support it. The unfortunate thing is that I'm not sure that other nations, such as yours, understand that in the U.S., not everyone, maybe not even a majority of the people, actually supports intervention in other countries. Of course, the U.S. has a long history of pluralistic opinions and viewpoints among its own citizens.

There are certain points Iran will never discuss. Our military and defense is one.
Well, of course. I don't think it would be wise for anyone to tell other nations, "Hey, look here, here is a weak point by which you could make easy prey of us ... !!!" No, no one really thinks that way if they are wise, right? That wouldn't be philosophically cogent or prudent to do.

USA need to understand that we share many ideas. We crushed ISIS in Syria and Iraq for example.
Yes, it would be nice for our cultures to communicate better and find some things in common, and try to understand each other better, and with more insight, about how to navigate our disagreements.

On the other side we also have our faults regarding this. One point is Israel. I dont see Israel as big threat for us. And majority of Iranians think that way.
I'm not one to discuss deep politics, especially not for things happening in the Middle-East or around Israel. I'm neither for or against, Israel. What I do know is that we all need to worry less about our security here and more about our relationship with God, our Lord and Savior above (Blessed be His Name!) :amen:

As for my daily life, well ha ha

It sounds like you have a very productive and full life at the present time, Darioush, not unlike life for many in the U.S. I'm glad for you that you are active and pursuing education. I wish the best for you in your life.

Have you ever been to any of the Tels and Tepes in your country and what was it like? Are they being protected from looters? What is the overall tone in your country over these ancient sites? Do the majority want to uncover our common historical past or keep it buried?

5 years? That's interesting.

(Proper names, including languages, are capitalized, so be sure to write "English," not "english." "I" is also capitalized.)

(Also, the past tense of "teach" is irregular: It's "taught" here)

("taught" again -- and "Americans" is capitalized.)

Iranians mostly hold great pride in our heritage. There is much archeological work done in Persepolis and all teh otehr places like Rushtam. Alot is done to preserve what we have and also do much research.

You should also know that iranian civilisation predates the persian empire. There were many kingdoms before and you can find many monuments here that predate the Empire.

Well, my favorite movie is Jurassic Park. :D

As for Rouhani, it does work. Our economy is doing fine and trade starts to build up. We get much more tourists and our old Iran Air finally gets new aircrafts from Airbus and Boeing.

Also thanks for the corrections. I cant train english that much.

Yeah the Elamite civilization. I just find all this stuff fascinating and would love to check out all these places. But it seems like archeology just stopped on these places over a century ago. Tell those guys to hurry up, the whole world is waiting to know it's past :).

Interesting. It sounds dualistic - - like the two gods are equal. God created Satan, so Satan is inferior. What are some customs in celebrating Norwooz?

1) We see the american government as something very bad but dont connect this with the normal citizen there.

2) I dont want soud rude but for most Iranians trump appears demented.
