“I will pronounce my judgments on my people because of their wickedness in forsaking me, in burning incense to other gods and in worshiping what their hands have made.” – Jeremiah, speaking the Word of the Lord (Jeremiah 1:16 NIV)

“And the people bowed and prayed, to the neon god they made.” – Paul Simon, The Sound of Silence

“And you see and hear how this fellow Paul has convinced and led astray large numbers of people here in Ephesus and in practically the whole province of Asia. He says that gods made by human hands are no gods at all.” – Demetrius (Acts 19:26 NIV)

“Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.” – The Apostle John (1 John 5:21 NIV)
Man, it is too true. I am constantly watching something on the TV or I'm on a forum site. Thank you, I mean it. I totally get what you're saying.

On the flip-side I read from Luke 1 to the end of Luke 8 today.

I'd argue watching tv or even playing a game is not a sin in and of itself. But its how your life revolves around it that can become a sin. More so I say "Does it affect your walk with God? If so your in sin because its your idol!".

For example because I am home 24/7 disabled. I used to watch tv, movies, play games non-stop all day. Never took time to pray, read, do devotions...etc. I'd even play games late into the night and miss church and didn't care because the game was more "fun" and I cared more about it. I was in sin and my idols were obvious.

Now I still watch things of course but I always make sure I do devotions/pray...etc in the morning FIRST. I also make sure I make time for other things like family, chores, church...etc. I enjoy what I do for fun. But its no longer my priority.

If I had to make one technology disappear from earth, it would be the internet. I realize theres ALOT of good on the internet and we can reach anyone. And in my wifes case its the only way she can stay in contact with her family overseas. However unlike a TV or videogame.... the internet let you easily access anything you can think of thats bad. inappropriate content, real life gore, occult stuff, even illegal things like child inappropriate content and downloading normal things you would pay for. And since something like 80% of christian men have seen inappropriate content or have an addiction, it shows the internet is an idol that leads to endless sin at times.

Heck I had a inappropriate content addiction. I've taken tons of steps to stopping it and it works really well now. Now there are some things of course with TV that you are sort of stuck with. For example theres no show anymore you can watch that DOESN'T have a "gay couple" on it. Even reality shows like Survivor or Amazing Race. Which makes it hard to avoid such subjects. Even in the new Star Trek last week the gay couple had an ON SCREEN KISS! It was disgusting and I looked away. I'm very close to not watching it anymore.

Lastly I'd point out that some in the past have said we shouldn't fill our heads with such things (tv, games...etc) to begin with. Which is a bit extreme to avoid everything and anything. I believe the bible is referencing the point that those weaker in faith can watch something, for example Game of Thrones and they won't realize its affecting them. Maybe they start to swear often now. Maybe they used slang offensive words now. Maybe they like to see naked women now...etc.

So thats why we shouldn't fill our heads with something that we know we will be weak to. Thankfully we have the Holy Spirit to give us gut feelings of "You shouldn't watch this! Trust me!". Though not everyone notices those warnings or they are blind to the fact what they watch affects them. I know I used to be.

My wife really enjoyed the first one, not sure we've watched the second, but she also enjoyed the music, especially the Newsboys tracks.
They're in the 2nd one as well, which also brings back a couple of the actors from the first film. Have you seen the film "The Resurrection of Gavin Stone"?

Maybe we should add 20in and 30in gods, and include the computer monitors we had to look into the read your posts. We can also go 10in and 5in to include the tablets and cell phone. Very easy to condemn the things I've given up.....but God forbid, I talk about the other things, which could be just as damaging or more so, that I still use everyday.

True, both computer use and TV use can be dangerous and lead us into sin. But the computer/internet does give us more control. Also, depending on how it is used, the computer and internet can be much more active where we are producing content. TV is almost 100% passive.
There are obviously LOTS of things that are to be found on the internet and NOT on TV.
This is both bad and good.
We know the bad of the internet.
The good is viewpoints other than what the main stream media feeds us, and tons of information you can search and find.
Still no guarantee you'll find truth though, but at least it's out there.
If it wasn't for internet i wouldn't have become a Christian.

It is encouraging!
but for me personally, i began as a truth seeker, when my life had fallen apart, and everything i believed turned out to be ambiguous at best.
So i started by finding out by whom or what, why and how i had been mislead.
To make a long story short, i ending up on Christian sites and channels etcetera, because that's where the evidence lead me to.
And thank God for our Savior! Otherwise we'd be doomed.

God actually has prepared me in a lot of ways for further ministries in my current endeavors by using this website as a stepping stone. Here it's not face to face, in my current job it is just like here, but face to face. I witness to people of all faiths, have theological discussions etc... Paving the road, making the way straight. All at work. I spent a lot of time here online before that.

Good point about not watching too much TV...
