Down the road about a mile from my house is a lone wild chestnut tree bearing chestnuts that are all over the ground at its base.

I wanted to make a nature themed craft so I went down there and gathered up a lot of chestnuts in a bag and took them home.

And then my mom and I went to wal mart to get the other supplies for the project I had in mind. I told her I was going to hot glue the chestnuts to a Styrofoam cone. The only problem with that was, the chestnuts would not stick to the Styrofoam cone when I attempted to hot glue them on.

So that craft project ended up being a failure. So I had to find a different use for the chestnuts. I got one of my moms canning jars she said I could have and I filled it up with chestnuts. Then I tried to glue some again to this outside of the jar but that failed too.

So I got a plastic container and just filled it up with the rest of the chestnuts I had left over. So now they ate being used ad a filler.

I have no idea how to make the chestnuts stick to things when I try to glue them on. Anyone else have this problem?

hehe nope I don't try to glue things very often but I don't think I will try chestnuts, they seem rascally.

I don't know what grows in your part of the world but be careful, sometimes chestnuts can be confused with horse chestnut which are moderately poisonous. Aesculus - Wikipedia

Never tried it. But keep at it (if you wish). Rome was never built in a day :). Try sanding the bottom of the chestnuts with a sand or emery paper. Flat bottoms tend to stick better. God bless and happy Christmas :).

Hey, what a good idea!

Oh and, thanks for telling me some are poisonous. Unfortunately I am not that good with identifying trees so I have no idea what species my chestnuts came from. :(
I didn't know about the poisonous ones, either...
