The past year of research has made it very clear: Trump won because of racial resentment
More than a year after President Donald Trump won the election, there are still some questions about what drove him to victory: Was it genuine anxiety about the state of the economy? Or was it racism and racial resentment?

Over at the Washington Post, researchers Matthew Fowler, Vladimir Medenica, and Cathy Cohen have published the results of a new survey on these questions, with a focus on the 41 percent of white millennials who voted for Trump and the sense of “white vulnerability” that motivated them. The conclusion is very clear:

That may have been a factor, only becasue it was about culture all the way, not race specifically.
Trump was the closest cultural match to the population.
A racist scammer laughingstock was closest cultural match to the culture of the USA? You are American, so I will take your word for it, but I have a much higher opinion of Americans. Perhaps I have met different ones than you know.

Or perhaps you have never met Mr. Trump.
Those who attended his rally's knew he had
a good chance of winning.

Many others remain clueless.

I also had strong feeling Trump was going to win.

In a year when nobody was enthusiastic to vote, Trump appealed to Nazis and KKK. They were very enthusiastic to vote for someone who had same beliefs as them. So very few people voted, and White Supremacists carried the day. And they are a significant part of American public and especially significant part of Trump base.

22 million Americans support neo-Nazis, new poll indicates

So yes, I also had strong feeling Trump might win. And I give Trump credit for recognizing how much support there is for White Supremacists in the USA.

Hasn't it ever occurred to anyone that Hilary was not exactly a saint, either? And that Obama changed for the worse during his second term, and she would have been a continuation of that nonsense? It has nothing to do with racism, and everything to do with the fact that they were voting for the lesser of the two evils.
If it wasn't about racism, Trump would not have spent so much time and effort appealing to Nazis, KKK, and other White Supremacists.

Has it occured to you if you'd like to discuss Sec Clinton or President Obama you could start a thread about her or him where you could do so? I understand the prevailing thought/talking point is: "When President Trump is criticized and you can't think of a way to defend him or spin what he did, bring up Sec Clinton/President Obama and try and make the discussion about them instead." So instead of considering how much "worse Sec Clinton/President Obama were!!" we simply discuss what's in the OP or you could start a different thread about them. Seems easy enough.

Actually, he didn't appeal to Nazis and KKK members. The liberal media fed you that garbage because they supported Hilary. I brought her and Obama up because you act like she was some angel or something, when she was just another corrupt politician like the rest of them. Everyone is acting like this is the end of the world. Can't you just accept it and vote in 2020?

...still can't find any way to address what's in the OP except by attacking Sec Clinton or President Obama? So while I do appreciate you proving my point for me, I was wondering if you have anything you can come up with that would apply to what was said in the OP, or was this just another attempt to distract from the D-list reality tv show host the Republicans elected to be the face of the Republican Party?

Of course he does. Nazis and the KKK make up a significant part of his base. According to polls about 9% of Americans support White Supremacists, so they make up over 1/4 of his base. With Trump's numbers falling, they maybe make up 1/3 of Trump's base.

22 million Americans support neo-Nazis, new poll indicates

Without the support of these people, Trump is finished politically. His polls numbers would fall to below 25% support. Trump will do everything he can to keep the White Supremacists happy. His political career depends on it.

Analysis showed that he did well among most all regular groups. Races, genders, most all groups.
Voter turnout was 1% higher than 4 years earlier.

What does voter turnout tell us about the 2016 election?
Nov 20, 2016 - Estimates show more than 58 percent of eligible voters went to the polls during the 2016 election, nearly breaking even with the turnout rate set during the last presidential election in 2012, even as the final tallies in states like California continue to be calculated, according to statistics collected by the U.S. ...

When only about 58% of eligible voters turn out, highly motivating White Supremacists to vote was a big help to Trump. That is why Trump pandered to White Supremacists so often during the campaign, and continues to pander to White Supremacists, as I documented in post #8.

Voter turnout was 1% higher than 4 years earlier so your "low turnout" claim fails.
I suggest you find qualified people to run against him so that your personal niche
is better represented next time.

You seem to be having trouble with basic understanding. If one person voted in 2012 and two people voted in 2016 then both years had low voter turnout even though turnout was 100% higher in 2016. Does this help you to understand?

Better qualified has nothing to do with it. The Republican party has used the racist Southern Strategy for 1/2 a century. They use it because it works. Trump just proved how well.

And let's acknowledge that Trump realized just how much support there was for White Supremacists in the USA, and for deciding to blatantly use that racism for personal gain. It tells everyone in the world exactly what kind of a leader is currently in the White House. (See posts #12 and #8 for documentation)

Let me set you straight. Trump is not a politician nor has ever operated that way.
He does nothing other than what he feels is correct each moment. He panders to
no persons or groups. He happens to think poorly of minority groups and as a result
gained support from like minded people. He is what he as always been and is the
opposite person you are portraying. He appeals only to his own interests and
is working to implement all he has said he would.
Will he succeed? Not likely. He panders to no one outside of his own interest.
He is the last person to become a compromising politician. That is his appeal
with his supporters.

Since the turnout was 56% then 57% your comment fails.
That would be 56 people 4 years ago, 57 people four years later.
The voter turnout was 1% higher not 100%.

I'm in Wisconsin. This is not a White Supremacist state.
Trump won Wisconsin because most of Wisconsin has
suffered from globalization. All other candidates ignored this
concern of a majority of Americans. Hillary made a point
about drug company profits must be stopped.
Not a concern of most people.

I understand that Trump supporters do not like to admit that the leader they support has a long and well documented history of racism, and pandered to the KKK and Nazis to get elected.

But the KKK and Nazis make up over 1/4 of Trump base using current poll numbers. And imagine how many support Nazis and KKK but would not admit this to pollsters.
