How can one be a Christian and be against Israel, on the side of the Palestinians? Or be in favor of a divided state? If they read the bible, they'd know God Himself promised that land to the Abraham and the Jews. So there should be no contesting this. Yet I know Christians who don't get this. We should be in support of Jerusalem being recognized as the capital of Israel. Yet there are Christians opposed to this---I guess for the sole reason that Trump supports it?

The historic position of Christianity is that it is the church, not the unbelieving Jews, who are the heirs to the covenant with Abraham, and that the covenant was not about a piece of land, but an eternal inheritance in the Kingdom of God.

The promise of the land of Canaan to Abraham's physical decendants was already literally fulfilled before Christ came.

As Soldier said, many in the church believe in Replacement Theology, and believe that "The Jews" are completely damned and have lost all of their promises and covenants to the New Israel, the Christians. If one believes that then it is also reasonable that one would believe that Israel doesn't need Jerusalem as it is only Holy in as much as the historical sights, and the Palestinians can manage it just as well, so if it helps peace then they should have it.

It is worth noting that there is some historicity to this idea, but I would not say it is the "historic position", and many people (myself included) do not agree with it and believe it is in the wrong - but that is a topic for another thread entirely.

It is also worth noting that there are quite a few Palestinian Christians and Arab Christians that would rather have the city as a part of their jurisdiction.

Perhaps some people believe Israel’s illegal settlements and generally acting as an occupier on the West Bank is actually not in their own interests in long term.

There are around 3 million people living there so it is not like they can get rid of them so some kind of lasting settlement is really the only humane solution.

A remarkably poor, disingenuous guess.

I do not support Israel at all at this time. The Jews suffered beyond human belief at the hands of the fascists and many of the remnant fled to Palestine where over the years they became fascists themselves in their persecution of the Palestinians. We do not need to aid and abet evil.

what was wrong with Jerusalem before the world super powers got involved and created what we have today? Jews, Muslims and Arabs had no problems living there together.
i think the Christians that are against it is because of all the war, bloodshed and destruction surrounding it. if supporting "Israel" means i have to support the bombing of mass civilian populations, where women and children are killed by the thousands, then i am strongly against it. the God i serve hates the shedding of innocent blood.

Neither for or against rather we are for (serve) God and His Christ. At the sounding of the last trump (7th) the kingdom of this world shall become the kingdom of God and of His Christ. A everlasting kingdom that can never be destroyed.
A royal priesthood.
Joshua 5
Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies?”

14“Neither,” he replied, “but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.” Then Joshua fell facedown to the ground in reverence, and asked him, “What message does my Lordehave for his servant?”

15The commander of the Lord’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.

Maybe the Christian Only forums would be a more suitable forum for your thread. I'm not sure you find much support for Israel outside of the Christian Only forums. Personally speaking, even as a Christian, I never supported Israel and have always stood with the Palestinians.

I'm undecided a bit. For reasons of physical security, Jews need their own land. We can support them for that reason. The modern nation of Israel is quite secular though. From that standpoint, it's hard to think of Israel in terms of restoring a land based on the Old Testament law of King David. It's more like a secular European country in the Middle East.

History has shown that no matter what concessions the Israelis make, most of those countries near or around them won't be happy until Israel ceases to exist as a nation.
So why should Israel be obligated to give up land if its only going to be used against them?

The way I see it is they just want to put Israel at such a disadvantage that it will be impossible for Israel to defend itself in the next "6-day war" type of invasion. There will never be any lasting peace there between Israel & Muslims, because they do not recognize Israel as having a right to exist; especially when you hear the rhetoric coming out of countries such as Iran.

I dont think The United States should have Gave Israel someone else's land . Also, I think the United States should stop sticking their nose in their business.

Okay, so why does it say in the book of Revelations that when all of the surrounding countries come for Israel, God is going to destroy all of them?

OK then. Leave it to God

If that’s the case can the US taxpayers stop subsidizing them now? If God’s going to do the heavy lifting it looks like a good place for spending reductions.

You need to check in dictionary what Everlasting means . It does not mean that it end 2000 years ago ...
