I have seen several bible movies but they add on a lot or taint the stories. This is a list of films I have seen

Movies I have seen...anything else out there?

Exodus:
- The Ten Commandments (1956). I thought this was too focused on the unbiblical romance of Moses and Nefretiti..and Joshua has a girlfriend in this and added content that I felt was too much...
- Moses (1995) - Felt this was the most best looking of the three and seemed more biblical
- The Ten Commandments (2006)- weird...very unusual.

All three leave out bronze serpent. And Moses is always young when he leaves Egypt. Except the 1956 version he seems old-ish. He was apparently 80 when he left Egypt!

Jesus Movies:
- Jesus film (1979). This is ok.
- The Gospel of John(visual bible) (2003). Word for word which I liked
- The Life of Jesus Christ. This is a Mormon production. Pretty good.
-Jesus of Nazareth (1977). I didn't see more than an hour or three but I thought it was terrible, too much added content.
- Gospel of John (2014) by the Lumo Project. It was ok. Word for word but no speaking, just narration.
- Jesus (1999) didn't see more than a few minutes. Was so repulsed by it
- Son of God (2014) well...new age Jesus is all I can say.
- Jesus: He lived among us (2011). For kids. It was pretty nice.
Seemed pretty accurate.

I have also been watching the Living Christ series from 1951. It is not too good but another Jesus series. I prefer anything from the 70's onwards.

Other bible movies:
I have seen nearly all of the Bible Collection series. I have the 17 on DVD. I have seen
- Genesis (not much because it is terrible)
- Abraham
- Jacob
- Joseph
- Moses
- Samson and Delilah
- David
- Solomon
- Esther
- Jeremiah
- Paul
- The Apocalypse.
- Jesus (some because it sucked)
On my set I have the "close to Jesus" series (4 films) which looks all unbiblical, with Judas having a girlfriend..so won't bother with it
I have also seen Esther and the King with Joan Collins, though that was terrible. Seen parts of that terrible blockbuster Noah movie and the Noah's ark film from 1999. Both AWFUL. There was one other old 50's production I saw too about Jesus. Forgot what I was right now.

I was wondering if there are any films that are at least half true with not too much added and false content. We can't get perfect bible movies I know, but what are the best??

What about the Moses one with Charlton Heston? (I think it was Charlton Heston, right?)

The only two I really get into are The Prince of Egypt and The Passion of the Christ. The latter is part of my Lenten observance during the lead up to Easter.

Here are a few more films from the 50s/60s. The golden age of Biblical epics. Not all are adaptations of actual Bible stories, but they have strong Biblical themes:

Quo Vadis. Based on the novel about a Roman soldier who falls in love with a Christian girl.

Barrabbas. An imagined story of the thief who is spared from crucifixion. Good performance by Anthony Quinn.

The Robe. A story of the commander of the Roman detail that crucified Jesus.

I agree about the added content but if you have the patience that movie is an incredible work of art with wonderful acting performances.

Passion of the Christ,
Has anyone watched the movie "Risen" ?
A little off, but I liked it.
I was going to try Risen but someone was saying the
disciples were like stoners or something and I didn't want to bother...if it is a christian movie shown in cinema I know it will have blasphemy
I did consider Passion of the Christ but feel the Lord doesn't want to me to see it..keep feeling a "NO" from him

JG, I really liked Risen.. I thought it was an interesting perspective. The story of Jesus' death & resurrection viewed thru the eyes of a cynical Roman soldier. I found the depiction of a (hypothetical) Roman's reaction/amazement to the events to be moving.

Personally I didn't find the depiction of the disciples to be demeaning. They didn't seem 'stoned' (or stupid) to me. They (like the Roman) seemed to be understandably awestruck & inspired.
Just my take..

Il Vangelo secondo Matteo (The Gospel According to St. Matthew) by Pier Paolo Pasolini.
I watched it last night and I had almost forgotten how much I like Pasolini's rendition. It's honest and nothing cheap, sappy & tacky about it.

As an evangelical lutheran I didn't like Gibson's Passion as it had too much [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]-macho-fringe Catholic thing going on for my taste. I also dislike those glossy Hollywood-style biblical movies featuring blonde, blue-eyed Barbie and Ken.

what are the movies about Moses or Joshua that contains killing scenes of civilians in the cities conquered ?

I watched some movies and cartoons about Moses and Joshua but they don't contain the killing scences of civilians .. But clearly tell that Hebrews killed all people in the cities they conquered. But why no movie show that?

For example , mosses killed all the people in the 60 cities of Giant king Og. In that movie there must be scene that mosses soldiers entering into a city's house and killing the family members.

Please suggest bible movies that contains killing scenes of civilians in the cities conquered by Hebrews ?
