I know little of the Jewish faith so bear with me if i start simply right at the beginning of my curiosity and need to learn and understand.
As Jews, who do you think Jesus was on earth and is now? What is the official view of the Jewish religion and in your own heart?

There is no official view of Judaism in regards to Jesus. He is not important to traditional Judaism and therefore really isn't mentioned or given much consideration.
What do I personally believe? That he was an average Jew that attracted a small group of followers who were devestated when he was crucified by the Romans (one amongst thousands who were crucified).

As Jews, who do you think Jesus was on earth and is now? What is the official view of the Jewish religion and in your own heart?
The official view of the Messianic Jewish religion as unanimously adopted in 2012 by the Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations (75 congregations. 8 countries. 39 years. Explore the history of the UMJC) is as follows:

Yeshua the Messiah of Israel
In the fullness of time, the Divine Son became a human being—Yeshua the Messiah, born of a Jewish virgin, a true and perfect Israelite, a fitting representative and one-man embodiment of the entire nation. He lived as a holy tzaddik, fulfilling without blemish the mitzvot of the Torah. He brings to perfection the human expression of the divine image (Isa. 7:14; John 1:14; Gal. 4:4; Heb. 1:1-4; 4:15)

Yeshua died as an atonement for the sins of Israel and of the entire world. He was raised bodily from the dead, as the firstfruits of the resurrection promised to Israel as its glorification. He ascended to heaven and was there enthroned at God’s right hand as Israel’s Messiah, with authority extending to the ends of creation. (Isa. 53:4-6; Ps. 110:1; Matt. 28:18; Mk. 14:61-62; I Cor. 15:3-8; Phil. 2-9-11)

Messiah Yeshua will return to Jerusalem in glory at the end of this age, to rule forever on David’s throne. He will effect the restoration of Israel in fullness, raise the dead, save all who belong to Him, judge the wicked not written in the Book of Life who are separated from His presence, and accomplish the final Tikkun Olam in which Israel and the nations will be united under Messiah’s rule forever. This restoration will bring everlasting joy for those who belong to Him. They will live forever in an order of mutual blessing and fellowship with God, in a cosmos perfected beyond description. (Isa. 9:4-5/5-6; Rom. 8:18-19; Rev.20:11-15; 21:1-4)

Messiah's Community
God poured out the Divine Spirit on the community of Yeshua’s followers, so that they might be joined intimately to the Messiah as His Body and become the preliminary representation of the New Covenant fullness promised to Israel. To this early Jewish community God added partners from among the nations, who heard the news of God’s work in Yeshua and responded to the good news with faith. (Isa. 66:20-21; Acts 2:1-21; 10:44-48; 15:8-9; Eph.1:13; 2:11-22)

Messiah’s community is a single community expressed in diverse forms within the Jewish community and among the nations. All are called to a dedicated life of worship, neighborly service, and public testimony to Yeshua. Unity and love throughout the entire community confirm Yeshua’s role, as the One sent by the Father, and God’s purpose in Messiah for Israel and the Nations. (John 17:20-21; Acts 21:20; Gal. 2:7-8)

Spiritual life is grounded in godly family units within the relational framework of congregations, whereby persons are to be encouraged, trained, and disciplined. Families in Messianic Jewish congregations should be strengthened and established in their Jewish calling to covenant life. Messianic Jewish congregations are called to connect in Messianic Jewish associations, where they will find mutual enrichment and accountability. (Matt. 18:15-18; Gal. 6:1-2; Rom. 9:1-5; I Cor.7:17-20)
And, as a Jewish believer in Yeshua since the early 90's I too hold these truths in my heart. Proclaiming Yeshua is LORD, Yeshua's role as the King/Redeemer, Holy One of Israel who restores hearts and nations to the Father. Yeshua, King of Israel, redeemer of our souls and restorer of Israel. God our Savior who saves his people Israel.

Actually a further thought if i may. How come that small band of 'followers' all went on to sacrifice their own lives? Just for an 'average 'Jew who had some interesting ideas?
The moment he was crucified, they were in huge danger themselves. Yet they went out to preach far and wide, paying with their own lives. 2000 years later millions of us believe in Christ and the number is growing.
Quite amazing that Jews still do not accept Him as Messiah.
So what will the 'real' messiah bring when he arrives? Obviously it must be something vastly superior to the all encompassing message of love that Jesus preached?
I am genuinely interested in what the Jewish belif has to say on this please.

Amazing considering the wealth of evidence that Jesus Christ is the son of God and the Messiah. What specific evidence do Jewish people look for?
The undisputed messianic passages pointed to a Kingly Messiah that will usher in the Messianic age of peace and bring back all the Jews from the four corners of the Earth to the Land. That's what they are looking for. They are not looking for a suffering Messiah or a Messiah that is God since there is nothing in the prophecies concerning the Messiah being God.

Until they saw something. Jesus had risen.

Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.
Jesus is the good shepard who laid down His life for the sheep.

I'm born to a Jewish family,
and reborn in faith to Jesus' Jewish nation,
and believe Yeshua HaMashiach is the GREAT I AM, and all as written , as foretold, in TORAH, PROPHETS, PSALMS
as well as all as written in the NT.
i.e. My only basis and way of thinking of Yeshua is from YHWH'S Word spoken thru the men called and chosen by YHWH, anointed by YHWH, inspired by YHWH, in SCRIPTURE, as Revealed by YHWH to little infants(all ekklesia) with GREAT JOYOUSNESS IN HIM (HIS GOOD PLEASURE TO REVEAL).
"The official view" depends on who you ask , of course, as not all Jews have yet accepted , not yet recognized Yahshua HaMashiach as the planned Messiah Deliverer Savior of mankind.

According to Yahshua Himself, He has never left His sheep, never abandoned us, and never will.
"He is near, not far off"..... ever present listening, caring, training, guiding, shepherding us all who love (by choice of will, not by emotion nor feeling) YHWH , who are called according to His Purpose.

I wasn't even "looking" for Him, for the Messiah. I didn't know I needed Him.

Then He took me and showed me people living His Life - Joy Filled, Peace Filled, Righteous, Pure Hearted, Lovely in every way. (yes, rare today). They lived every day with Jesus in their midst and talked with Him and about Him every day, (vs only one or two hours a week). They treated one anther and others (travelers passing) with extravagant generosity in heartfelt true obedient love from YHWH, DOing His Word, not just hearing it,
and laying down their lives daily for one another. (yes, rare today).

I wanted what I saw, what YHWH opened mine eyes to see over six months time.
They were real, had His Life, and great joyousness in all circumstances.
So I grew hungry for His Kingdom, thirsty for His Rightness (all things ARE RIGHT in HIM).
And I was immersed in Jesus' Name - passed from the old self who was buried with Him,
to the new life, resurrection life with Him every day.

Actually not amazing at all considering they had Him nailed to a tree.

Funny, the Bible I just looked at said it was the Roman Prefect Pontius Pilate.

Then you need to read it again. I suggest starting at Matthew 26:47 and going from there.

Matthew 26…

47 While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people.

57 Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled.

59 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. 60 But they did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward.

Matthew 27:

15 Now it was the governor’s custom at the festival to release a prisoner chosen by the crowd. 16 At that time they had a well-known prisoner whose name was Jesus Barabbas. 17 So when the crowd had gathered, Pilate asked them, “Which one do you want me to release to you: Jesus Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Messiah?” 18 For he knew it was out of self-interest that they had handed Jesus over to him.

19 While Pilate was sitting on the judge’s seat, his wife sent him this message: “Don’t have anything to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of him.”

20 But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus executed.

21 “Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” asked the governor.

“Barabbas,” they answered.

22 “What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called the Messiah?” Pilate asked.

They all answered, “Crucify him!”

23 “Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate.

But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”

24 When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said. “It is your responsibility!”

25 All the people answered, “His blood is on us and on our children!”

26 Then he released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.

He healed so many.
He set so many free from demons.
He ever did any wrong, ever.

His Own people rejected Him. (Isaiah 53?) He Suffered, Died, and was Buried.

Over 100 saw Him later, raised from the dead, as prophesied.

He ascended into heaven.

He never casts anyone , Jew or gentile, away who comes to Him for help.
Never.

Any Jew today, or any other religious member, even gentiles!? , can come to Him to be healed.

Nailed to a tree, the Son of YHWH.

When He Returns, He won't be weak, nor humiliated, nor shamed, any more.

He is Returning SOON for all who are eagerly looking for Him!

WATCH THEREFORE ! WATCH FOR JESUS SOON RETURN ! (He died for you all, He laid down His life, so you who who-so-ever received Him could have eternal life with ABBA YHWH ! )

HEAR HIM, and DO AS HE SAYS......

Crucifixion was a Roman method of execution. Stoning to death would have been the Jewish punishment.
