• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I keep having these thoughts saying evil things and insulting God or renouncing thoughts and sometimes these thoughts feel too close. I am afraid to account for these thoughts. I would like to ask for prayer, scripture, and help if there is anything you are led to share with me.

Prayer is always a good answer. When we have concerns, God want us to turn to him. He is the author and finisher of our faith, he can and will make you whole, regardless the problem or setback. Our prayer life is a reflection of the relationship we have with God. The Bible tells us to pray without ceasing. Even when you walk down the street, to always have your thoughts directed towards the Lord in prayer...brings one a sense that he is always with you, right beside you...which he is. Even if you have thoughts that aren't exactly "kosher", bring them to him. The apostles even recognized things like this when they asked Jesus, "Increase our faith". You recognize the shortcoming as "the tax collector". Take it to the Lord. We are all sinners brother. We all need his mercy and grace. It is a blessing to know you need it, rather than think you don't. To think you do not need his grace or mercy is a dangerous place to be. Pray to the Lord, tell him you love him, and go from there. :)

Hi
This is tough for you. Prayer to Jesus is the only way. Pray for Jesus to protect and guide you. Ask that you hear His voice above all others. Trust that our Lord will take care of you.
Psalm 23 is good. Soothing and reassuring. Say it often along with the Lord's Prayer.

.
The spiritual source of our involuntary, evil/immoral or baseless thoughts of doubts, fears/worries, lust, greed, selfishness, hate, anger, jealousy, etc, is the devil, our arch enemy - the result of Adam's Original Sin - GENESIS.3:14-19, ROMANS.5:12, JOHN.8:44, MATTHEW.16:23 & 23:27, MARK.7:21, 1JOHN.3:8.

Learn to counter such involuntary evil thoughts from the devil with the Law/Word of God(MATTHEW.4:1-11) and/or just ignore them(= let the evil thoughts come and go).
... We should not entertain such thoughts and allow them to bear fruit into voluntary sins/evil-deeds/law-breaking against God, our neighbor/friend/family or ourselves, eg blasphemy, murder/suicide, adultery/AIDS, stealing, lying/cheating/ /being cheated, dishonor parents, social withdrawal, etc.

I am praying for you Deer Glow! I understand how you feel and what you are going through. I have been there, and understand the panic that takes place. Do not give into the lies. You have NOT thought too far. You are loved by God. Cast down all high and lofty thoughts and don't pay attention to them. This is meant to distract you from the truth. The TRUTH is Jesus and His WORD.

I have been where you are and have come to a point in my relationship with Jesus that no matter what lies are poured into my mind, I'm going deeper. Keep pursuing God and push through. Rebuke the thought and ignore it. Read your Bible, pray, listen to sermons. I have had to keep going through. We walk by faith and not by sight. God is there no matter what our feelings are telling us.

For so many years I was led by my feelings, but I believe now I am being called to live by the WORD. You are not alone. Let's live deeper, push past our feelings into God's truth.

I have experienced this paralyzing fear. At one point it made me scared to even read the Bible, but that is a lie. The WORD provides comfort and uplifts our soul. Please, please try to get in the word a little each day and try confessing scripture.

I understand Deer Glow!! Hugs!!

1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

1 John 3:20
If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.

Romans 8: 35-39
Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, "For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered." No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

You have OCD, right? The more you ignore these types of intrusive thoughts, the less they'll bother you. You have to retrain your brain not to respond to/freak out over unwanted thoughts. To do that, you have to not respond with anxiety, to not do what your OCD is telling you to do (e.g. any compulsive behaviors you might have such as trying to "cancel" the thoughts). Do you have any help for your OCD? Do you know how to use ERP therapy?

Lord, please guide our brother and protect him from these horrible thoughts. Hello Deerglow, I have had these thoughts in the past as well as the present. These thoughts are indeed the worst of my experiences with OCD and the fear of losing ones salvation. But that’s where they come from, the fear losing one’s salvation that by saying bad words or a certain phrase can cancel out all the love and blessings God has in store. In this we often forget that God omniscient that he knew about the thoughts before you even think them and that he knows our frame. We forget that he is merciful, quick to forgive and very slow to anger. Remember John 10:28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.
