Respect is far more valuable within the context of geopolitics.

Paraphrasing Machiavelli there and the word you are looking for is not respect but fear.

Do you think Russia or China are “respected” by their neighbors ?

Do you figure it is that much different with US?

Exactly.

And it's rather interesting how others in the world talk much smack regarding the United States. My guess is that at least 50% of the world would love to live in America.

They call the big boy on the block and his people a bully, while his country is the one that feeds most of the world. The United States of America is the most generous country that's ever been on Earth.

We of this house give our share to the poor ones in the world and feel blessed to be able to do it.

Something tells me that one guy that chimes in here often with all of his links to countries that disrespect us may not be from here?

If not he probably still wishes that he lived here.

That very well may the case - but more broadly - which countries are you referring to that regularly talk smack about America?

Check post 35 I don't know the guy and I don't read the links he puts up.

I'm not sure but I bet the guy does not live in this country but probably wishes he did.

I love this country and do not have a problem with it or its president.

In fairness I'm sure that you would have said you love your country back when you didn't care for the president. The distinction you drew then is the same type of distinction that people who think trump is a buffoon are making now.

That arrogance and ignorance is why your country is despised by so many people.

Some Afghan farmer doesn’t feel blessed when you destroy his neighborhood hospital because some overworked drone operator had a questionable intelligence brief.

People injured in recent Middle East clashes don’t feel blessed when Trump had to make another gesture to try shore up his rapidly falling popularity.

Illegal prisoners on overseas holding facilities don’t feel blessed to be water boarded by US operatives.

Scientists trying to combat climate change don’t feel blessed to have a POTUS whose scientific knowledge could be printed on back of a mustard seed.

The list is endless.

Respect and fear go hand in hand. When the bible says to "fear" the lord, it doesn't mean "fear" as in "fear being murdered or robbed". It means fear in the way you "fear" your guns.

Regarding nations, when you respect a nation that is not your ally (and sometimes even when you are), you "fear" what they could do if you ever cross swords.

I don't think that's what people in this thread who are critical of Trump are talking about when they talk about the loss of respect. They're talking about the loss of respect from our allies. British Parliament openly talking about whether or not they ought rescind invitations to Trump or arrest him for promoting extremist groups over there, Germany talking about how it no longer views us as a reliable ally and will from now on ignore our lead and chart their own course, etc.

So they're not really talking about how adversaries might view us. They're talking about turning everyone into an adversary.

Actually it appears it is USA that is going broke. You will likely shortly add 1.5 trillion USD to debt for no reason. Economy is doing very well, but suddenly huge tax breaks for corporations and richest Americans is needed?

Who else is hiring and expanding their businesses?
Who is investing in large amounts? Not the bottom 50%.

A couple of food for thought things...lol

Maybe Israel isn't always right - and engages in some douchey behavior quite a bit of the time?

And - tell me what you actually *know* about the Uranium deal? I mean - I always see that brought up by people that seemingly know very little about it. Like, where is the Uranium? lol

Here is a more precise picture of what's going on, but
having our largest competitor, if not enemy, in charge
of any large percentage of tactical materials within our
country is dangerous. Do they even need to export it
to use it against us?

"We have noted repeatedly that extracted uranium could not be exported by Russia without a license — which Rosatom does not have — but even so, this 20 percent figure is especially misleading. (*See update below.) At the Fact Checker, we have described it a bit more precisely as “mining licenses for about 20 percent of U.S. uranium extraction capacity.” But we were out of date; it turns out “20 percent” is an especially stale number."
Analysis | The repeated, incorrect claim that Russia obtained ‘20 percent of our uranium’

No I do not live in USA. I would not wish to live in USA. Poor education system. Terrible healthcare system. Racism is big problem. Hatred is common. Laughing stock for leader. Country has become laughing stock around world.

If given a choice there are many better decisions. Your neighbor to north is good example. Good education. Good healthcare. Racially diverse. Leader is respected. Country is respected. Cities are considered some of best in world to live in. Impressive country that is doing right things.

Trump has plunged America into an ethics crisis and made country a laughing stock

European diplomats: Trump is a 'laughing stock'

Departing Ethics Chief: U.S. Is 'Close to a Laughingstock'

'People Here Think Trump Is a Laughingstock'

Nobody is actually hiring and expanding their businesses. Business does not have a shortfall of cash. It’s that the “build it and they will come” philosophy to economics is flawed.

Businesses only hire as a last resort, to meet demand. That’s why the focus ought be on the middle and lower classes. Those are the ones that spend.

How many middle and lower class people buy luxury goods? How
many Walmart buyers does it take to equal one Oscar de la Renta
when it comes to spending in the marketplace?

"Oscar de la Renta, New York City: And the most expensive store in
American scores an whopping average of $3,217 per shopper per
shopping trip."

Which is more beneficial to the economy - 1000 people buying a Ford Fiesta - or one person buying a Ferrari?
