Hi Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I would just like to ask for your interpretation of this strange tightness I feel over my left chest each time I'm at Church praying/singing the Lord's Prayer.

I grew up in a very religious home where we were nurtured and raised to be prayerful. I studied in a Catholic School during High School which helped me grow more in Faith. I was an active member in our Christian Youth Organization. However, as I went through college, I started losing my faith as I allowed myself to be influenced by doubt and skepticism against the Roman Catholic Church. Since then until some time, I stopped going to Chruch and barely prayed.

However, for the longest time, I felt that there was this deep dark void within me that coerced me to go back to knowing God and praying to Him. Now I have been working back on my faith (Still struggling though).

And ever since I came back from my lost journey, I noticed that each time I sing/pray the Lord's Prayer, I always feel this tightness and tingling heavy sensation over my left chest, which I otherwise wouldnt feel anywhere else, even when running or doing heavy workouts at the gym. I have no heart diseases as per my regular check-ups.

This is utterly bizzare because I definitely dont feel this anywere else. The burning sensation only starts when I pray this very prayer which then starts to wane towards the end.

I have seen a relevant post that illustrates the exact feeling that I feel which the writer interpreted as the Lord's Hug. But while she thinks of it as something that lies within the bright side of the spectrum, I feel like it is some kind of spiritual resentment against me for not going to Church for some time which I assume will not go away until I completely follow and do things according to His will. Idk? I think I can juxtapose this aspect to this analogy: It's like I am forcing myself into a narrow small door for which I get wounds and bruises for forcibly coercing my entrance through this door. And unless I humble myself or cut off some limbs (which stand for my sins) I will not be allowed to get through that door.

It is this for reason to which I started this forum. I wish to know if there's anyone else out there who feels the same thing and who can tell me their interpretation to this. Please feel free to tell me your thougths. I have also posted a poll so you can easily and conveniently provide your feedback. If you can, please take time to answer it whether what's in me is a Good or Bad Spirit. Muchos gracias!

'Til then, I will patiently and blessedly anticipate of your honest and helpful responses! Thank you. God bless you all.

You have to understand that when you recite the Lords Prayer you are speaking the very words of Jesus Christ as He was instructing to pray to the Father ( red letters in the red letter bible meaning Jesus' words). Where you were slipping from Jesus for some time, that lets in Satan, gives him a foot in the door.. Satan has all kinds of demons capable of making sensations come over your body. And Satan probably felt He was winning this one till you turned back. So while the Lords Prayer is a good thing, even awesome thing, Satan won't think so. I'm not saying this is the case but it is a possible scenario.

So that is one answer. Here is another, emotionalism. Getting emotional or anxious for a lack of a better word can bring tightness to your chest. Sometimes to the point you think you're having heart attack symptoms when there is no heart disease.. The cure in this case is to get more sure in God. Actually in both cases, it would be to draw nearer to Jesus Christ.

I did not vote in your pole .

I used to experience something like that for a while. It was a spirit of idolatry that was in my heart. I repented of the idolatry, which was basically love of self/rebelling and going my own way instead of His way (although other forms of idolatry could let in the same type of spirit), and I cast it out of me in Jesus' name, and it all went away. I can now pray freely again.

This essentially was unrepented sin I'd say.

Hi Dave G, I really appreciate your message! I actually kindaf entertained the same interpretation, I only dread such confrontation. I wouldnt want Satan in me, never! But as I diverted paths, that unknowingly and automatically opened myself to Hades. (terribly dreadful). But yes, as I have said, I've been working back on my faith now, and I have observed that this "tightness" is receding slowly. It's not anymore as heavy as it was before. But it's still there and I hope it would go away (if it's ever bad)

Thank you so much for your reply.

Hi Emli. Thank you for your reply. I've been tryina cast this feeling out, but it's not that easy. I believe it's because I still have little faith. And as Jesus said, you wont be able to heal anything unless you have enough faith. And Im working on it, working on it

Thank you Emli for your reply. It's really appreciated :)

Just keep seeking Jesus, and ask for Him to increase your faith. I would offer to help you, but I believe that the Lord would want you to cast this spirit out yourself, in His name, and He will empower you to do so in the Holy Spirit in due time. Scripture gives you everything you need to know.
Lack of faith could in many ways also be described as a form of idolatry, and it is what got you to rebel against God in the first place, so I believe that this will go away more and more as you keep believing and keep struggling to grow in Christ.
Sometimes the Lord brings these kinds of trials on us so we have to keep seeking Him even when it is really uncomfortable, to eventually bring us to a better place in the Spirit.

I'll pray for you. :)

Hello Selyan, and welcome to CF. :)

I'm going to first say that it's impossible for people to diagnose the cause of what you're experiencing via an Internet forum. We can share experiences, and you can react, and you may find the right answer, or possibly be led astray (I hope not).

The first thing I would say is that focusing too much on feelings and sensations is not healthy. It might not be too bad the first time you do it, but you could end up putting too much attention to it and be easily misled and turned this way and that by the enemy. He would delight in just such manipulation and distraction. And then your mind is on constant "temperature taking" spiritually (which can be deception) and not on Christ.

On the other hand, there are real sensations as the result of spiritual experiences. The Church fathers speak of the nous, or "heart" it is sometimes translated, which feelings tend to be located very close to where you seem to be describing. But such pursuits are not good for people to pursue without guidance. My point is only that - it could have any sort of cause.

Keep praying, use the name of Jesus in your prayers (we frequently pray "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner" or a shortened version, keeping Jesus name. Read the Scriptures. Seek counsel from your priest or pastor (and hope they are knowledgeable about such things). And don't worry too much about physical sensations - for a number of reasons. And keep learning.

God be with you. Prayers for you.

And again, welcome. :)

Hi Selyan,

I don't have anything from the Lord about this sensation, but I think He wants me to share this with you: God isn't punishing you for being away for so long. To understand His feelings toward you right now, please read Luke 15:11–32.

Faith is a gift from God, it is not something you can work yourself into. Here are three ways faith comes to you(this isn't an exhaustive list, but a good place to start!):

Romans 10:17

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

If you want to increase your faith, start regularly reading Gods word. I would recommend you start at the beginning of the New Testament and read all the way through. Don't set an outsize goal for yourself in reading, so that is becomes frustrating. If all you can read is a chapter a day realistically, then do that. Even if it just a few verses, get into the word of God because it is your spiritual bread. Have you ever fasted from food? That's what we do to our spirits when we don't get into His word. Also, because the bible is a spiritual book you need to pray before you read to ask the Lord to help you understand it. I would also pray after you are done and ask the Lord to seal what you've read in your heart.

A second way is prayer:

Luke 17:5

And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith

We can receive more faith from the Lord by praying and asking for it. Don't just stop there, though. What God desires is that you would bring all your needs and concerns before Him. He wants you to have one on one time, alone with Him, where you share your heart with Him. That is why Jesus said to go into the closet when you pray, away from the distractions where you can completely focus on Him.

A third way is to ask for the Holy Spirit. The Lord Jesus Christ sends the Holy Spirit to indwell us when we believe in Him. That is what it means to be born again, when the Holy Spirit indwells you and makes you into a new person. If hasn't happened to you yet, you need to ask for Him. In the same chapter as the Lords prayer in Luke 11, Jesus says this:

So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

11“Which of you fathers, if your son asks forf a fish, will give him a snake instead? 12Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

Keep asking and the Lord will pour out the Holy Spirit in your life. He will teach you the ways of God and increase your faith. He will grow the fruit of the Spirit in your life:

Galatians 5:22-23

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law

If you do these three things I guarantee you will have more faith and it will move your heart with a consuming desire to be fully His. God bless!

The Lord's Prayer will not harm your body, mind, or spirit. I cannot say for sure whether this is mental or spiritual. Either way, don't let it stop you from saying the Lord's Prayer. If it's mental, then continuing will help you power through whatever it is. If it's spiritual, it will have to flee. Praising Jesus by name would be another good thing to do.

Hi Everyone! If you're still following this post, I just would like to share to you an amazing news. As you know, I always felt that heavy tingling sensation every time I sing the Lord's Prayer at Church. But glory to God! I finally stopped feeling it! Today, I went to church and was really relieved to feel at peace while singing this prayer. I really think it was some negative vibe caused by my sinful nature and incomplete submission to God. Thank you so much for all the prayers and pieces of advice you've given me. They greatly helped me nurture my faith and come to genuine repentance. To God Be the Glory! Have a Merry Merry Christmas everyone

God cannot be tempted to do evil so I don't think it's the Holy Spirit that's hurting you. There are as many others have posted, ways in which we allow demons to harass us. I remember one time after we received our new house, I went and blessed the whole house, every room, the attic etc. Through a season of complete isolation in my head ( also from Satan) I slipped into watching inappropriate content again. I had just opened the door to demons.
Has anybody else expieianced sleep paralysis as they call it?? I will open a new thread on this actually so watch this space.
My point being that I woke to see a thick blacker than black silhouette standing on me and holding my limbs, my jaw, my head basically every part of my body. This isn't the first time I have seen these demons. I rebuke them using the name of Jesus Christ and they flee.

The reason I bring this up is because we can attract demons to us via any portals we allow them. If we have a one night stand with someone who let's say is promiscuous, who knows what demons are inside that person, or if your read tarot cards or involved or have in the past took part in the occult, you allow demons to harass you.

It is good to sit down on your own quiet place and be with a God. Ask Him to reveal the memories of past sins you might not have repented of.
Apologise for that sin and then cast the demon out of yourself in the name of my lord and saviour Jesus Christ.

Derek prince, a very humble man made a video about demons, and the gangs they associate with. It's on YouTube and I suggest you look it up so you know exactly what spiritual warfare really is. To give you a teaser, if somebody has a spirit of depression, that person could have anywhere from 1 to 500 demons inside them. You might cast out the spirit of depression but what caused your depression (let's say drug abuse) that spirit of dependency could still be within you. A spirit of sadness could be within you but it's the spirit of physical abuse as a child could be the main reason you have a spirit of sadness.

You have to remember the prodigal son. The father runs out to the repented son and cooks the fattened calf as a feast for him. I don't think God would cause pain in your chest for returning to Him and praying to Him the way Jesus told us. I am 99% certain it ain't from God. The reason I leave a small window open is because God could very well be allowing such an attack to test you just like He did with job, but I highly doubt it.

Think of your life gone past,
Apologise and repent of such sins,
Cast out the demons with the word of Jesus Christ
Hope this helps, God Bless, Jonathan

Hi Jonathan ,

Thank you very much for your comment. I totally agree to everything you've said. I mean, I knew it wasnt God punishing me, He'd never do that, I just failed to articulate my own thoughts better. I really thought that some bad spirits, which I allowed to lead my soul for some time harrassed and inflicted pain to me when I started coming back to the Lord.

Thank you so much for sharing your personal experiences :) I am sure to take note of your advice :)

PS. just as I have posted previously in the comment section, I came home from church earlier greatly elated and happy because I no longer felt that heavy feeling as I sang the Lord's Prayer. I'd like to think that through working on my faith, reading the Scriptures, repenting and praying and of course, thru Jesus Christ, I was able to cast away the evil spirit within me.

Hi Jonathan,

Thank you
And no doubt by continually walking in faith that demons flee. Just to be clear on something, demons don't like when God is around. In the bible it talks of a guy who had demons and when Jesus turned up, the demon threw the boy around so violently that onlookers taught the boy was dead. Demons can and will hurt you for wanting after God, no doubt. But as Jesus teaches us, they have to flee in His name. Some demons then can only come out with prayer and fasting. These demons are the sins of the flesh,
It took me many prayers and fasting to not watch inappropriate content again. I could not stop or rid of this sex demon until I did. Amen lol
Look up derek prince spiritual warfare and demon gangs, its quiet fascinating to know such knowledge of our enemy

Jonathan,

(I realized my reply to your first comment got quoted on your post, so I reposted my message for that)

I looked up to Pastor Derek's videos last night. Indeed, it's fascinating to know the manifestations of our adversity. His preaching elevated my awareness to the commonest demonic manifestations (Although sometimes too common I tended to think they cant be as bad as they are) It was spiritually educative. Thanks for the recommendation! God bless

It isn't a spirit or demon of any kind. Assuming no physical medical cause it sounds to me like anxiety. The more you focus on it and think about it, the more aware you become, and then the more anxious you become.

Seriously, focus on the Lord and his cross and forget everything else, and most particularly forget the nonsense about demons. They have no power at all over Christians; none. If you focus only on the Lord then that is all you need.

Hi Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I would just like to ask for your interpretation of this strange tightness I feel over my left chest each time I'm at Church praying/singing the Lord's Prayer.

Sounds psychological, to me. I think you're aware that your drifting from God was wrong and so when you pray, your guiltiness about having drifted manifests in this tightness in your chest.

If you can, please take time to answer it whether what's in me is a Good or Bad Spirit. Muchos gracias!

If by "Good or Bad Spirit" you mean the Spirit of God or a demonic spirit, I would suggest to you that your physical sensations are neither thing but merely a manifestation of your own state of mind.

Here's a verse that may help you:

1 John 1:9
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Confess your sin of drifting from God, determine with God's help to live a new life centered on Him, and trust that He has done as this verse promises He will do.

I feel like it is some kind of spiritual resentment against me for not going to Church for some time which I assume will not go away until I completely follow and do things according to His will.

Have you read the Parable of the Prodigal Son? If not, you should. It illustrates to us how God, our Heavenly Father, responds to the waywardness of His children. After the Prodigal Son has wasted his inheritance in wicked living and finally returns home, what does his father do? Is there resentment on the Father's part? No. Is there penance the son must perform? No. Instead, the Father is looking for his son's return and when he sees his son approaching, the Father runs out to meet him and gives him a hug! And then the Father throws a party for his wayward boy! How different this is from how you seem to be thinking about your return to God. There is no nasty, injurious door through which you must pass back into your Heavenly Father's good graces. He welcomes you home with open arms. Will you let Him? Or will you continue to resist the grace and love God has for you?

Isaiah 55:7
7 Let the wicked forsake his way And the unrighteous man his thoughts; And let him return to the Lord, And He will have compassion on him, And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.
