I do have a pet peeve, however. Why do Christians only talk about prayer whenever they refer to someone who they didn't vote for wins? That isn't Christlike. That is just petty and foolish. Christians are to pray for our leaders that they would receive wisdom to govern, Democrat, or Republican. Maybe if we in the Church be and act like believers in Christ, then maybe so many of us wouldn't fear for our country because Clinton, Kaine, Trump, Bush, or just Obama was or is our leader.
Why does we need to pray for our country become more of a convenience because one doesn't have a good thing to say or believes that a leader has a good moral character, and one didn't vote for that particular person or persons? The problem also with said logic is that, I wonder if there were ever a milquetoast person who has ever been elected President? Was or is there ever a leader who has not had some skeletons in their closets? I'm not trying at all to pass ungodly judgment on anyone, including these candidates, but what, in your opinion, have or is doing to all of a sudden questioning the character of a leader to the point where we need to pray for our leaders? How come when our last President was in the White House or even when GW Bush and Clinton were the Presidents in their day, we need to pray for our country come to mind, but only when the person is the guy that we did not vote for? I believe that no matter who is in the White House like him or not (thus far), we are to always pray?
Hopefully I will not misinterpret these points that are direct quotes from the Good Book:
1 Timothy 2:1-3
Pray for All Men
2 Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
*** Self explanatory. We are to not just pray for our country because either our current leader is not perfect (whatever negative thing you believe about President Trump). He like it or not is the Occupier in Chief. Believers are to be the called not to grumble and not spend so much time complaining that we can't say we are believers one minutes but still harbor hatred for the guy, not just his policies. ALL men (and women) in authority are to be prayed for, and are in our prayers intercession for our leaders included.
I am not saying that we should not be voting for our Candidate because of the hatred of sinful beliefs. However, I am saying that if America is supposed to be a Christian nation, or a beacon of light to the world, or any other positive attribute that so many, especially Conservatives believe and express, then we are stand, live holy, and be unashamed for Christ, then why is it that why isn't America really a godly nation that it claims to be? I believe that what I expressed is a part of why the US is not the godly nation that it claims to be and why some believe that this nation was never built on Christian principles. The point to all of this? If America were to be a godly nation, then we are supposed to "love" all people, but the point is, what is love? How does one love all people? How do we try to be at peace with all people and thus live holy lives?
I believe that there are too many believers who complain about our President and past Presidents that too many people don't seem to realize that well, while I have my own personal reservations about our last few Presidents myself, we are to follow that above verses and read up on the Books of 1-2 Samuel, 1-2 Chronicles, and 1-2 Kings. As I was reading this, I realize that whenever the Israelites or Jews have an ungodly leader in the Old Testament, because of sin and ungodliness, the leaders are not only corrupt, the nation becomes corrupted. I also realize that we are not living in the times of the Old Testament, but the point remains the same. Because of the character and godliness or lack thereof of the leader and because much of the church was allowing ourselves to be just as divided as the rest of the nation, the country for more or less will end up suffering or rather has suffered greatly.
All of those aforementioned leaders are all probably or none of them are, corrupt people, Senators, Governors, Lawyers, or Business people, but even they need the Lord. They too could have been candidates who could have been people after God's own heart, doubtful or not. My point to all of this is why do so many in the Church allow ourselves to be influenced by sin and division when the sin and division are to be "influenced" by us?
Why did so many hate Obama or Bush and wait until when they were elected, they had hateful words not for just their policies but for them personally; I wonder if those who hate Clinton or Trump feel the same way and often use the words "we need to pray for our country" or "our country is so divided" or "I am so scared for our country", but only because they don't like or pray for that very leader? People hate Trump. People hated Obama, Clinton, and Bush, and even Carter, and even felt that they are not our leaders and this is not our nation. Yes it is. I have things that I totally disagree with our last two leaders on, but they ARE our Presidents as long as we are living on American soil.
